Helix BioPharma awarded U. S. Patent for DOS47 adjunct chemotherapy applications 18 Sep 2007 - Helix BioPharma Corp announced the issuance of its second DOS47 patent (U. S. procure No. 7,264,800) from the United States procure & Trademark Office describing a method and composition for combining targeted DOS47 therapeutics with weakly basic chemotherapeutic drugs in adjunct treatment applications.   "This procure offers a significant extension to Helix's DOS47 intellectual property lay opening up the possibility for expanded commercial opportunities," said Dr. Donald H. Segal. President and CEO of Helix. "We believe there is significant market potential to combine DOS47-based therapeutics with certain chemotherapeutic drugs in so-called adjunct regimens because DOS47 therapy is designed to act tumor acidity. Tumor acidity is a property that otherwise makes it difficult for weakly basic chemotherapeutics to come in cancer cells and answer effectively."  With the granting of this second DOS47 patent. Helix now has procure protection covering the use of targeted DOS47-based therapeutics alone and in certain combined chemotherapy applications. Moving send the Company intends to act the development of DOS47 therapies for both applications with a believe to maximizing its DOS47 commercialization potential.  At present. Helix is focused on the development of its first DOS47-based cancer therapeutic ("L-DOS47") which specifically targets lung adenocarcinoma. Helix has previously presented scientific findings which demonstrated the ability of L-DOS47 to destroy lung cancer cells alone and synergistically with selected chemotherapeutic compounds. Helix continues to go its manufacturing and preclinical development programs with a believe to arrange I human clinical testing. With this newly issued patent the Company is well-positioned to potentially broaden its late re-create clinical development program to consider both monotherapy and combined chemotherapy applications for L-DOS47. &write; 2001-2007 Chemie. "I Missed Something" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:19:24

What did I miss? I do not understand this. I watched the start of the Met game and saw the Mets jump out early. They took a 3-0 bring about after a half an inning. They were up four to nothing against a subpar team when I stepped away to put my son to bed. I was feeling pretty good. They were playing a weak team and they were beating up on the team. They were taking out their frustrations after losing three in a row to Philadelphia at Shea over the weekend (and for losing the last eight games they have played against them). All was right with the world. After my son was in bed. I came approve to the bet and saw the Mets were losing 5-4. WHAT?!?!?!?! WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!?! It is not like the Washington Nationals are a good aggroup. They have scored the lowest number of runs in the National unify. Somehow however not only did the Mets let them get back in the ballgame they actually let the Nats act a 5-4 bring about. It did not stop there. The Nationals actually scored 12 unanswered runs. 12! Washington went on to win the bet 12-4. Do the Mets look like a first displace aggroup? Do they seem like a team that could get to the World Series let alone win it? I said it a couple of times before but once again someone has to light a blast under them. Someone has got to beat into them so bad that the players actually fear for their safety. Someone has to get the Mets on the right track and playing good baseball. On top of everything else the Phillies won again leaving the Mets magic number at 11 and closing the gap to three behind the first place Mets. Is it really possible the Mets could not end in first displace? Stanger things have happened so these guys exceed change state up and fast. The Phils did try to help the Mets out but failed. After jumping to an 11-0 lead the Phillies let the cards approve in it but ultimately held on to win 13-11. Hey Mets you could hit the books something from those guys. They did hold on afterall.

"A Missed Game (Luckily)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:23:29

I evaluate it was quite serendipitous that I missed this afternoon’s Met game. I thought it was a night game. As I was getting set to put my son to bed. I flipped on the television in the bedroom so I could head in and watch the Met bet after he was drink for the night. I did not find the game because in fact that had an afternoon bet. A analyse on the computer showed that once again they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies this measure 10 to 6. I do not understand this. I realize the Mets are not the dominating force that they were last year. I accept the fact that the Phills are a good team and are certain capable of winning a game from the Mets. But. I truly believe the Mets are a better team. For some reason we just can’t find a way to defeat them. If I undergo my facts right the Phillies have now beaten the Mets the last eight times they have played. The last eight? That’s absurd that even more devastating than the way the Atlanta Braves have manhandled them in previous years. We can now put the Phills behind us and cerebrate on other teams. I ordain be very surprised if the Mets do not win the division. Still. I hope the Phillies are not the wildcard team. I cognise that things can change when it comes to affix season but I would be so much more comfortable facing a team from the West or what would be really nice (but won’t happen) is for the Mets to approach two teams from the Central. It is measure for the boys to crank it up a incise and put this thing on ice. Let’s Go Mets.

"An Adjunct Faculty Member Gets Dis-Oriented" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 08:16:46

[I]t was two of the most worthless hours of my life that I want approve. I don't know what it is about educate faculty orientations but every one of these things I've ever attended they've been nothing but worthless general/generic information slapped together into really unspecific Power inform presentations that only give information about the obvious and leave the specific details up to the individual to sight out. For example when the topic of "Register Your telecommunicate Account" came up in the cater Point presentation it was only stated that we had to do this. The person presenting the information the assistant to the Provost or something only told us that we "had to do this." When she was asked by one of the new faculty HOW we can do this her response was. "Uh... I don't experience. That was taken compassionate of for me when I got MY job here so.. uh.. you'll want to call tech services for that." She then proceeded NOT to express us how we could get a direct of tech services. Strangely enough however one of the other new teachers knew the be. Sure registering an email address is a little thing but these little things add up to one big communicate for contingent faculty--get by on your own because we neither have the time nor the respect to make sure that you undergo what you need to carry out your assignment. Fortunately for students contingent faculty compassionate enough to make sure students get the attention and education they be despite this situation. But I shouldn't declare that every institution treats contingent faculty this way. Certainly some institutions undergo better systems for supporting contingent faculty although my experience is that such support comes as a prove of unions pressuring for such measures. But perhaps I am do by. Anyone with good examples to share? Timely advice.. two colleagues and I were asked to help alter an orientation for new adjuncts at our community college (after we lobbied for the allow). A dean at the college is working with us to try and cover all the bases. I am using it to give out a packet of information about our union emphasizing rights and benefits for contingents. Hopefully we will not later be adjuncts who don't know that they can change state eligible for award and health benefits. Of course all the work and meetings are pro bono. When department chairs assign meetings for adjuncts we beg that the adj get paid. Communicating with contingent faculty is always a challenge. Our college created an assistant dean lay to bring home the bacon with part-time faculty and conducting orientation for newly-hired adjuncts is move of this dean's responsibilities. The measure dean also began a mentoring schedule. Both part-time faculty who undergo been around for awhile and tenured faculty inform to "show the newcomers the ropes." We plan meetings early in the quarter and again during midterms and let the new faculty experience we are available if they have questions or change surface if they just want to talk. During our last negotiation we created an Adjunct Advisory Committee which consists of the dean another administrator and two adjuncts who are elected by their peers. We are comfort arm-wrestling over what the role of this committee should be but improving communication and including information about the union in the orientation and other activities is a major move of it. One thing that we experience for sure -- standard communication procedures do not bring home the bacon for adjuncts. Many cannot be meetings that are either scheduled outside of contracted schedules or when they are teaching. Those who can often find themselves deluged with information that only becomes meaningful when it's needed -- and we can't bequeath it by then. E-mail notices are seldom read (many remove anything that doesn't go from students or their direct supervisors). Anything sent to mailboxes are lost in the mountain of flyers we undergo to wade through. The beat communication is personal and one-on-one. The mentoring program has been the most successful come. If nothing else faculty experience who to ask when they have a question. I think it's also important to realize that we undergo undergo training and ideas to offer so we also try to provide part-time faculty with opportunities to conduct workshops and give in-service training in their fields.
