December 6. 2007 -- A Queens teen cruising around in a high-performance car that he recently got as a gift slammed into an overpass yesterday - killing two passengers and critically injuring himself and two others guard and relatives said. "All of them were like beat friends," said one family member yesterday at Jamaica Hospital. Cops accept Sanjay Misir. 17 was going 50 mph in his 2007 move Charger SRT8 when he lost control trying to navigate a sharp move on the Van Wyck Expressway. His mother gave him the car as a gift for starting college. Avinash Beharie. 19 a back up cousin of the driver said they were headed to watch a drag race. But other family members said they were on their way to see a movie in The Bronx. "It's the beat thing that can come about to the family," said Khemlall Harilal. 48 whose son Devindra Harilal. 18 was killed in the horrific come down. "The last thing I told my son. 'Don't go domiciliate too late.' Too bad he didn't come home again." Also killed was Christopher Karan. 18 a freshman at the New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn. Ramano Sahid and Toshawand Tiwari - both 19 and from Queens - suffered serious injuries in the crash
A night at the movies for five teens ended tragically this morning when their speeding vehicle crashed into a guardrail in Queens killing two passengers cops said. Two 18-year-old men died at the scene cops said. Three others in the car all between 17 and 19 were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical bear on and listed in critical condition relatives said. The teens lived in South Ozone lay and were part of a close-knit group of Guyanese immigrants. Many of their friends and relatives gathered at the hospital after the 12:45 a m crash. Some were visibly overcome with grief. "They took away my son!" wailed the care of one of the dead passengers as tears ran down her face outside of the emergency dwell. The teens were traveling south on the Van Wyck Expressway in a black move Charger when they struck a follow rail and flipped over cops said. They were pinned inside the vehicle and emergency workers had to pry them out. Some of the victims went to John Adams High School; four attended small colleges around the city. Relatives said the teens were coming from watching a movie at New Roc City an entertainment complex in New Rochelle. The Charger belonged to a 17-year-old boy who friends say had recently received the car as a gift from his parents. Relatives couldn't immediately say who was driving but insisted that the car's young owner is a cautious driver. "He's normally a responsible driver. He watches his speed and he loves this car," said the driver's uncle an engineer. "The cop said that they hit the follow rail." "Apparently they had to be going fast because they flipped," he added
--------------------Five teens in a 425hp car--this is why some states limit the numbers of young passengers new drivers can have in the car with them. I wonder if any of them were belted.
If they were truly going only 50 mph (on an expressway - I anticipate NYC has MUCH sharper turns on their expressways than we do) then I'd guess they weren't wearing belts. When I saw 17-year-old and SRT8. I was picturing triple-digit speeds. He could undergo gotten in to this accident in a Geo Metro.
I know this will be interpreted as "stupid kids doing stupid things behind the wheel" - but measure night was NOT a night for an inexperienced driver to be on the road in a RWD car.. it was a tough night to drive - snow freezing ice and whatnot. this is very sad. Igor
Not the worst I've seen. Heading onto the Southern State from the Belt. I saw what was once a mark new M5 in two pieces on the grassy bring up. Literally cleaved in half at the B-pillar. God only knows what he hit or how abstain he was going.

The SRT8 is capable of 170+ mph so its not hard to imagine that the kid was being wreckless. On the other hand he could have been going the speed limit and hit some ice. The passengers might not undergo been wearing seatbelts (the Charger is a pretty safe car). There are too many variables here to pass judgment.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's desire those young atheletes that undergo clauses wirtten into their contracts saying that cannot own a motorcycle or a certain write of car etc. The least these poeple could undergo done is get their kid some professional driving lessons and I don't mean Driver's Ed. I convey something along the lines on Bondurant. If I won the lottery the firt thing I'd do is go down to the dealership and put a few certain cars on order (An SRT-8 Charger likely among them). The next thing I'd do is book my ass in a racecar driving educate.

Where does it say that? The first article said that the cops "believed" they were going fifty. In any event if the kid was speeding it's not necessarily bring together to accuse it on the car (or the parents for buying the car). There is plenty of speeding and accidents involving crappy old cars doing 100 mph or more often involving kids (just look at all the kids speeding around in fartcan Civics).
"He's normally a responsible driver. He watches his go and he loves this car," said the driver's uncle an engineer. "The cop said that they hit the follow complain.""Apparently they had to be going fast because they flipped," he added.
Two teenagers died and three others were critically injured when their car struck a follow complain became airborne for 100 feet and hit a cover overpass pillar on a sharply curving move ramp from the Van Wyck Expressway to the Nassau Expressway early yesterday the police said. The car a 2007 Dodge Charger was being driven at a high rate of go when the accident occurred at 12:45 a m come the northern border of Kennedy International Airport investigators said.
1. What the hell is a care who professses to like her son doing buying him a SRT8 muscle car? What a dumb.... Some people truely bedevil me. When my son was old enough to drive he was forbidden to have any other kids as passengers and he was forbidden to be a passenger with any othe kid who had a licence. Why? Because kids are mentally deficient when it comes to making judements about speed space hold and driving conditions especially when surrounded by other mentally deficient kids. 2. I know populate are all excited about RWD but after spending a winter in their RWD SRT8 challenger they will be yearning for at least FWD sedan again. If I buy this kind of car it certainly won't be my main vehicle or one that ordain even see the road in pass conditions.
Had this been a Chevy Aveo or cover cerebrate it would have comfort resulted in the same situation. While. I challenge the wisdom of giving a 17 year old a car like this the real tragedy is the unsafe manner in which the vehicle was operated during dubious driving conditions. Even though we would like to accept we could trust someone so young it begs the question as to why this person's parents would furnish him such a high performance vehicle. What kind of training had he had to command such a car? Especially in such defy conditions. I for one would have never change surface thought about giving such a car to someone of this age. Truly a sad turn of events!
They were on a tightly curved exit ramp. That particular location. IIRC is a tight integrate/exchange area and the speed check is probably 15 or 20mph. If that 50mph guesstimate is proved accurate how do you not consider that speeding??
God teenagers are stupid. I'm glad my parents helped me get a fwd Civic. No one needs 425 hp at 17 years of age. His parents will be paying off lawsuits for the be of their lives.
this is why i did not get my house last night and go into new york i feel comfortable and confident with my ability to control in come down and wet conditions however in regards to everyone else this is pretty much what i evaluate i have seen way to many populate flying on the highways around here in poor road conditions im more worried about people getting me killed than my follow spinning out on my mustang.

THEY WERE HEADED TO check A DRAG RACE!!! i missed that part of the article the first measure i saw it. 1 who in there right mind would be racing last night around here anyone in the NY area would know what im talking about it was ice galore2. This "very responsible driver" was going to watch sed draw race in light snow and ice. 3 they hit a guardrail and still flew 100 feet.. i think its safe to say they were going fast...

Sad but not really that surprising. I'll say that the age and lack of driving experience probably had more to do with this than the car. That and I'd bet seatbelts. RWD isn't so bad (I drive a 2wd truck year round) you just undergo to know what weather and wet can do to your car and that comes through time behind the go around.
