"No. 4 Kansas Starts Fast, Routs Florida Atlantic 87-49" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:31:30 |
It doesn't happen often in Kansas' venerable Allen Fieldhouse. The game's only standing ovation was for the visiting coach. Rex Walters who led one of Roy Williams' best teams to two Big Eight championships and the 1993 Final Four as a player returned Wednesday night as the coach of Florida Atlantic but the packed house of rabid Jayhawk fans weren't going to hold that against him. The fourth-ranked Jayhawks unleashed an early 12-0 run and raced to an 87-49 victory behind Brandon Rush's 17 points. But signs were held up welcoming home Walters and the standing ovation during pregame introductions "touched my heart," he said."I have said all along that the people are what makes this state and Kansas basketball so special," Walters said. "It means an awful lot to me for them to show that much respect and love. "Then unfortunately we had to play a basketball game."Mario Chalmers hit two 3-pointers in the run that put Kansas firmly in control at 32-13 and it was never any closer. Darnell Jackson making his first start of the season had 13 points and four rebounds and Darrell Arthur had 12 points for the Jayhawks (6-0). It's the best start since 2004-05 for Kansas which will finally play a road game when it travels to No. 22 Southern California on Sunday. Carderro Nwoji and Sanchez Hughley each had 14 points for Florida Atlantic. Guard Paul Graham who is averaging 17.8 points per game has missed two games on indefinite suspension for undisclosed reasons. Kansas coach Bill Self said he too was touched by the warm welcome Walters received."I thought it was great," he said. "It wasn't the most exciting game. I thought the ovation Rex got that was the best ovation of the night. And he deserves it. Everybody respects how hard he played. I know I did and I was an outsider and respects how he conducts himself."It's the second time Rush has exceeded 16 points an indication the All-Big 12 guard is quickly rounding into form six months after ACL surgery. He was 6-of-14 from the field in 19 minutes. For the Owls it was the finale of an exhausting start to a season that had them playing their first six games on the road. They'll finally get a home game when they host McNeese State on Saturday."It's been a monster schedule. It's been really difficult," Walters said. "The toughest thing with a young ballclub is that you're trying to build confidence and we haven't really had a chance to build any confidence. You get it through success and we haven't had a whole lot because of our schedule and that's my fault more than anyone's."After posting a 38-19 halftime lead the Jayhawks quickly raised the margin to 49-25 with a 9-2 run capped by Rush's alley oop dunk. It was 52-28 when Jackson and Rush keyed a 13-0 run. Sasha Kaun hit a three-point play then Jackson made two free throws and a 3-pointer followed by a 3-pointer from Rush. Not all the outstanding plays belonged to the Jayhawks. Early in the first half. Rush stole the ball at midcourt from Xavier Perkins and drove in for what seemed to be shaping up as an uncontested dunk. But the 6-foot-4 Perkins managed to get in front of the 6-6 Rush and rejected the shot just as Rush was going to slam the ball into the basket. Capping their six-game season-opening homestand the Jayhawks exceeded the scoring margin of almost 26 points which had characterized their first six games. Chalmers had 11 points for Kansas which has won 19 of its last 20 games with the only loss to UCLA in the round of eight in last year's NCAA tournament. Owls center Carlos Monroe their No. 2 scorer averaging 17.2 points did not score until getting his first basket in the opening minute of the second half. The 6-8 junior wound up with four points on 1-for-8 shooting after getting 26 points and 13 rebounds Monday night against Missouri-Kansas City. "If Monroe doesn't score they don't have as much offense," Self said. "But Rex is going to do it the right way. He's going to sacrifice some performances to make sure he gives he gives his team the best chance over time. Keeping guys at home.. coming to Allen Fieldhouse and we pressure pretty good from time to time. That shows you he's more interested in the long run as opposed to just playing good tonight. So I respect that."

Wow.. so much to comment on hereFirst the Peninsula HOtel is fabulous isn't it? I've stayed at the one in Chicago and in Manhattan. What do you think about the President? Are the Filipino people at assay? What does this convey?
@Wacky Mom:Everyone is tired of the same old thing graft and corruption. However the end does not justify the means. I undergo always believed in doing things the peaceful way. Ev. There was a lot of talk during the takeover thing e g. things about this and that that didn't even made to the newspaper. At this inform in time all i can say is that i'm glad it's over. Hopefully things ordain go approve to normal again. And sad to say but true that also includes graft and corruption in my beautiful country. And I kid you not!.
Trillanes sees color and white because he's still very idealistic.. though. I shudder to think how much of his career is left now that he's being so vocal at this re-create of his go. Is he considered a nuisance because of his impulsiveness? or a hero because of his principles? Makes me query....
@Woobie:A nuisance my friend. Men of principles do not communicate with finality and disown everything a few hours later. Heroes do not endanger the lives of others. A hero will put his life on the line first before others. Hero? Nah! He's more of a adjust. And I kid you not!
hi there!Your communicate has been nominated forDecember'sEntertainment communicate of the MonthYou have one whole month to vote!http://julia-aquino blogspot comGoodluck, may the best blog wins!
I understand your points my friend and I do accept with some of them. But as you know. I have a different point of believe regarding the issues. I know that you will allow me to share a piece of my mind. We always charge about corruption and how slowly it decayed our once disciplined society. But do we do something about it? The ineffective leaders that we undergo right now are only a consequence of our ignorance. Corruption is bad but not doing something to stop it is worse. Trillanes has violated the law and has to punished. And you are right about coups not being the say. But we have gone to the conventional means and nothing happened. Are we contented with just criticizing our leaders? Trillanes retracted eventually but at least he started something. None of us has even reached the point of asking our leaders to step drink. Trillanes only did half of the job. But don't we cognise that we undergo not done any? Yes his actions are hard to justify. But how do you justify our total ignorance to reality? We are only good at criticizing we are never good at doing. Heroes do not harm others. That is a myth my friend. bequeath Andres Bonifacio? He harmed others when he convinced the Katipuneros to contend the Spaniards. He knew revolution was not the say yet he comfort persuaded others to connect his crusade. And what was the prove? A resounding defeat. Now we call Bonifacio a hero. We even celebrate the day of his death. Of course Trillanes is no Bonifacio. But none of us can be compared to Trillanes. So why criticize? This is what I love about your blog my friend. Cabalen tau sa Friday? Libre ka naman......
@Sam:"The ineffective leaders that we have alter now are only a consequence of our ignorance" - I agree with you on this take my friend. "Trillanes retracted eventually but at least he started something. None of us has even reached the inform of asking our leaders to go down." - Some of our leaders have called for GMA to step down but no to apply. Trillanes' plan was not that well coordinated thus contributing to the belief that it half done. Believe you me when I say that I am all out for his label for GMA to step drink and all. I do! I really do! I esteem him for his guts to say that out loud. But what I didn't want were the conditions set forth for it i e. that GMA et al go drink and a snap election will be held within 60 days. Sixty days? Who will direct the reins of power then? A military junta? No no no. I don't think so! And who did he furnish as an alternative to the corrupt government that we undergo now? I'll let you say that one my friend. Heroes do not injure civilians. Sam. Unknowingly or not. Trillanes and Lim put civilians in harm's way when they took over the Penn. Why do you evaluate Trillanes and Lim chose the Manila Peninsula? Why not the Wise Motel? Or Sogo? Or Alpap? The specific cerebrate why the Manila Penn? I'll give you one good anticipate bro. Criticize? If you look carefully at my post and the one following it (the one with pics) you will see that I did not go my thoughts of the subject matter my friend. None whatsoever. Yes. I gave my views in the comments section. Why so? I had to give my thoughts on it because I was asked about such. I respect each and everyone's views my brother. Including that of Trillanes'. What I don't agree with was the way he handled the whole thing. He failed to address all the factors that make such a call i e. that the present administration steps drink a success. And I kid you not!.

"Royals Radio Affiliate Profile: Nebraska City, NE [KNCY-AM]" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-07 23:43:49 |
is comprised of 86 affiliates and stretches across eight states. At first glance this might seem less impressive than the numbers suggest as the typical view of small-town Nebraska differs little from the typical believe of small-town Kansas or small-town Iowa for that matter. We know better. In this recurring series Royals analyse attempts to give each affiliate its proper airing celebrating the regional heritage of Royals baseball. In a sporting era corrupted by the endless seek for the big money baseball on the radio is a decidedly low-stakes low-tech venture. Let it always lay hidden like a strength in the backyards of the object.
Proudly labeling itself as "The domiciliate of Arbor Day". Nebraska City. Nebraska is a proud outpost of Royaldom in the crucial region of southeastern Nebraska. With a population of 7,100. Nebraska City is the 23rd largest city in the state and one of the larger affiliates of the Royals Radio communicate in the Cornhusker state. Nebraska City is one of the more diverse cities in Nebraska with only 75.1% of the population listed as white; about 12.5% of the population is African-American and Hispanic. Just across the Missouri River and the wilds of Iowa. Nebraska City is also the largest city in Otoe County which with a population of 15,000+ is the nineteenth largest of Nebraska's 93 proud counties.
As the official Arbor Day Website the first celebration of the holiday was in Nebraska City in 1885. After planting trees just as fun then as it was in 1885 things got real:
When the plantings were completed. 1000 students formed a line to begin the parade from the various schools to Nebraska City's opera house. In the walk each class carried colorful banners made of satin with silk lining and trimmed with gold adorn. The letters on the banners were painted in oil colors. By the time the walk reached the opera house the crowd numbered well over the 1000 as townspeople joined the march. Every available pay of space in the opera house was occupied the students having the front seats and gallery while the older persons stood. At 11:00 the throng of celebrants was addressed by the fail of Arbor Day. J. Sterling Morton.
Mr. Morton was listened to with much attention and loudly applauded at the close of his address. At the conclusion of the ceremonies the students sang "America," and the large audience was dismissed.
I love that the account ends with "the large audience was dismissed" which sounds oddly ominous while also being unnecessary..

"Is Kansas State Helping Kansas?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:43:30 |
For the most part. Kansas fans were bummed out when they heard that freshman Michael Beasley was staying at Kansas express even though Bob Huggins had departed. The top recruit in most circles. Beasley is expected to be a one-and-done player primed for the NBA. And in case you were still skeptical. Beasley racked up 32 points and 24 rebounds in his Wildcat debut. But somehow this all helps KU more than K-State.
The Jayhawks have had a problem with first go exits in the NCAA tournament then last year they made it to the Elite Eight. In reality they would undergo made the Final Four if it weren't for running into a UCLA aggroup that was nearly unbeatable that night. If you took away half of the 30-foot shot clock beating jumpers the Bruins nailed. KU would undergo prevailed. The only difference between that Jayhawk aggroup and the ones of years before was one thing: they faced an NBA player twice before the tournament.
Once in regular season and once in the Big 12 contend. KU has to go up against Kevin Durant. Both times they should undergo lost both times they won. They were destroyed by Durant and comfort open a way to won facing both an elite player and adversity twice before the Big Dance. Games desire that prepare a team for the NCAA tournament and playing in the Big 12 North doesn't give you many opportunities after January. But this year. Kansas will face K-State twice. And the Wildcats are pretty much exactly the same as last year's Longhorns; a team with one NBA-ready superstar a shaky backup crew and an even shakier coach.
The only thing Beasley brings to the table for K-State other than possible national television time is one good season where they can compete with KU and alter the field of 65. Other than that he won't be around long enough to make a lasting impression; the Wildcats will not win a championship. But Kansas can and with injuries already bringing tough times to Lawrence tough games against K-State ordain put the Jayhawks' backs up against the protect. And last measure that happened things turned out pretty come up.

"Stock car drivers do laps in big city" posted by ~Ray

NASCAR dragged all 12 drivers involved in its playoff "chase'' around New York this week to publicize the races. One bring out was the first-ever Top 12 list on David Letterman's late-night show in which each driver took a turn saying why he loves racing.
Jeff Gordon had the best line at No. 2 on the enumerate: "It’s not one of those sports you undergo to administer cram in your ---- to be good.”
ESPN/ABC has been making a big promotional and production push this season in its first year back with the sport. One gimmick that generated much publicity early on was "Draft bring in,'' which uses spectacularly complex technology to illustrate how the cars cut through the wind and how that in move affects the go.
It's alter but executives quickly learned it must be used sparingly and must be explained to make any sense. Jed Drake a senior VP called it "very much a bring home the bacon in progress.''
Drake said viewers should not evaluate to see it as often as the faux first-and-10 line in football games or the K-Zone in baseball games. "We comfort be to bring home the bacon on explaining what it is,'' he said.
I understand NASCAR's desire to register the New York market. But is there actually a merchandise for it here? I don't experience a single New Yorker who would go to a race ---- even if provided with remove tix. A bring in in Staten Island if filled would be of populate from upstate and rural areas of Pennsylvania and Delaware.
I attended a go in the Poconos in June. come up actually I was there and soaked in the atmosphere but then left after the back up come down decelerate. Anyway it was interesting. One quirk of car racing: The cheaper tickets are the ones CLOSER to the track. The expensive ones are higher up where you can see.
