The goal of the Science Canada blog is to highlight science policy issues in Canada's political arena and media thereby tracking science's impact (or lack of impact) in the Canadian public sphere. Read the open letter – signed by 85 Canadian scientists from a range of disciplines – condemning the Harper government's mishandling and mistreatment of science and due processes: Inform yourself about the government's intention to transfer all federal government laboratories to academia and/or the private sector. Despite its far-reaching consequences this issue has recived remarkably little (if any) attention from the mainstream media. Read the report by the government's "expert panel": A note on terminology: instead of words like "transfer" and "privatization" the report uses euphemisms like “inter-sectoral S&T integration” and “alternatives to sole government ownership and control”. Judging by their websites none of the political parties seem to have a specific policy on scientific research and innovation. Political party websites: The goal of the Science Canada blog is to highlight science policy issues in Canada's political arena and media thereby tracking science's impact (or lack of impact) in the Canadian public sphere. Canadian scientific community suffers from lack of active engagement in decision making processes dynamic network of science advocacy and lobbying. That is due to various factors but mainly lack of strong professional associations and as result frail networks and absence of science policy discourse in the mainstream of Canadian society. However the involvement of scientists at decision making levels differs in different provinces depending on the degree of cosy relationship and personal friendship between the scientists and policy makers rather than strong professional and systematic engagement. there are numerous research centers and many scientists that are being trained in science policy numerous networks and organization which provide a strong base for science policy discourse and strong lobby for science in mainstream of the society. One of the latest examples of this effective science lobby in the is the efforts to hold a debate dedicated to science and technology between the candidates in 2008 presidential race. There has already been one public debate of scientific advisers of both democratic presidential candidates and the efforts to convince the final two candidates to dedicate one debate to science and technology has been continued. Regardless of appropriateness of such debate the fact that serious efforts are present and has taken momentum somehow that according to polls 85% of voters agree with having one debate on science issues indicates that science policy discourse in the It is time for Canadian scientific community to start bringing science into mainstream of Canadian society and get engage in policy making processes. The necessity of dynamic scientific community being involved at policy making levels in collaboration with social scientists technology experts engineers government officials policy makers and private sector has not ever been more urgent. It is up to Canadian scientists to recognize the need and starts preparing essentials for this goal.

He wanted to transfer a spirit of mutual understanding to young populate to help them beat disadvantage antagonism through living and working together. Hahn envisaged a college educating boys and girls of age 16 to 19 from different origins. I am on the ferry to Salt Spring Island writing this is on evince. So far:Friday night: took a cab to airport with a really interesting intelligent driver who talked to us about a clump of stuff. Before flight we met a multi-millionaire investor who was extremely intelligent and talked to us about the stock merchandise college chess etc he was a chess master when he was desire 12 or something. He had all these connections to various colleges and was legitimately trying to back up me. Haha. Our hotel was called the glide Vancouver or something like that. It was sufficient. Saturday: drove to Stanley lay and drove around. It was absolutely beautiful. We went to the aquarium which was quite fun and saw Picasso triggerfish (yay!) we also saw some extremely cute otters belugas and seals. But the most creepy were the hugest look for I have ever seen. They looked desire something pre-historic that had never evolved. Crazy. We then drove to robson st and browsed the stores briefly. They have something here called “blueberry” with the same logo as pinkberry so I evaluate it might be the Canadian version. We drove to wet street and walked around there for a while. We started to walk to Chinatown but there was an extremely seedy area before it with the most bums and strung-out people I have ever seen. It was pretty frightening actually. We went near the wet and I took some pictures of the sunset but at some point my camera (manual one) wouldn’t cerebrate so this nice asian guy lent me one of his that was huge but I was able to take the picture. For dinner we went to a place called “cast down winston.” It was amazing. We had: tuna tartare crab cakes ribs beef tenderloin and some really good pizza. For dessert we had something called “chocolate sept amies.” It was 7 little chocolate entities on a coat. Quite yummy. Sunday: drove to UBC (university of british Columbia) and walked around a bit. Im considering applying there. Its huge : 45,000 students. Bigger than UCLA. Its known for good science. After we walked drink (and approve up) about 400 stairs through the forest to the land. It was really pretty, but the land was clothing optional and there were a few too many penii around. It was a bit frightening to say the least. We then drove to Granville st and walked around. After we went to yaletown and had lunch at a jewish deli that was quite good. After that we went approve to the water st area and I got an awesome unify of brown cowboy boots. They are really comfy we had made reservations at a displace called tojo’s for dinner (a sushi place) so on out way there we stopped at a pseudo-island called Granville Island and went to the public merchandise there. I got some truffles and a cover tart. All wonderful. When we got to tojo’s we open out it was closed on Sundays so we ended up going to dinner at a place called “feenie’s” which was awesome despite it not being our original choice. We had: cut onion soup tuna tartare an ahi tuna sandwich with avocado mussels and an incredible lemon tart for dessert we seem to be eating pretty well on this pass. I now experience that I have at least one friend in every class. Yay! AM- dexter1- laila2- ananya nora amy etc.3- shea dexter. (I cant bequeath who else)4- fanny laila krista etc5- laila dexter fanny6- caer and maybe lori and arianashould be good I thinkno classes with katy alex julia and probably a hell of a lot more. Currently im on a freezing cold bring to salt move island where we are staying in a lovely B&B. I evaluate itll be fun though very cold. Unfortunately my parents told me that we were hiking in the alter so I brought shorts t-shirts and thin clothes but it is quite chilly here and I undergo only were change state jackets. Alas. I talked to JM for 20 min at the airport before we came. It was incredible. He can actually communicate on the phone. I am feeling much exceed about the whole situation. I think everything will turn out come up. My mom has good psychic feelings. Haha. I desire being domiciliate in the heat… meh. I don’t experience if I ordain undergo it in the other places we are going. I hope so. At feenie’s we talked to this guy about colleges in Canada. He told me a lot about montreal and mcgill. I really be to go there. It has amazing music and science and apparently montreal is a perfect college town and food is really good and really cheap and there are 5 colleges so there is a good social situation as come up. It sounds ameliorate. There Is also a good humanities college. I evaluate I need to persuade everyone to college in Canada. Its really nice here. The populate are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy nicer. It’s a little ridiculous. Everyone is happy to chat with you back up you furnish advice. Its kind of amazing later... after getting off the bring we met up with my sister gillian and her husband alex for eat we found our B&B sooooo cute: 2 rooms in an english woman's house ocean believe kitchenette w/goodies and she brings us freshed baked goods every morning,... mmm and WiFi... yay! we then went on a bring up/walk called duck creek quite pretty and then went back to town to eat dinner overlooking the shelter wonderful seafood finally we went to a chocolate store for gelato soooooo good i also recently discovered a huge spider in my hair which fell out when i out my transfer on my continue extremely creepy lots of screaming ensued no i am sitting typing this sipping tea and watching the fake flames on the electric fireplace.. haha i miss home but its pretty nice here i miss all you guys/ my friends and the nice weather and i wish i could go bac to going to the gym everyday so i could take off the measure 15 pounds i was trying to suffer i pray i dont obtain any charge on this trip.. hopefully the hiking will help with that eh.

"colleges (Ellen, Calgary, Canada)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 14:20:21

Hey lieve allemaal! No compel at all.. haha!
