"The Election and Politics in General" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 11:49:58

When it comes to this election and politics in general right now I have no idea where to even start. I try to be unbiased in beliefs and look to who I honestly see as the best candidate. At the start of the all candidates campaigns I felt the best choice was Ron Paul this man has nothing but America's interest in mind and he wants to get our economy back on track. Sadly he didn't make it too far. What I was left with was Barack Obama and John McCain. I wasn't excited at the thought of either one of these candidates but if I must choose one I better pick the "lesser of two evils" so to speak. So I set out to read up on the candidates their policies their histories and really anything related to them. I read every article I could set my eyes upon. I watched the news. I watched the debates both presidential and the vice-presidential. I wasn't sure of who I liked better until after the choice of VP was announced for each. The rest of this little blog is a pretty much a testament to why Barack Obama is now the president and not John McCain. I'm confident that you can guess who I supported after reading this and it was not without good reason. Barack Obama chose Joe Biden who has a stunning record in Congress; and John McCain chose Sarah Palin who is Governor of Alaska. This is where the side by side comparisons get interesting for all four of the candidates. Education:Barack Obama attended Harvard AND Columbia. He was also participated in the Harvard Law Review considered one of the most prestigious law reviews in the nation. Additionally he taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago for 12 years. Joe Biden attended the University of Delaware and obtained a double major in History and Political Science. Impressive I must say. Now what do our Republican candidates have to offer?John McCain attended the U. S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Nice until I read that in a class of 899 nearly 900 students he was ranked in the BOTTOM five. Not five percent the absolute bottom five; number 894/899. Sarah Palin attended many colleges but not in the way you would hope. This is taken from Wikipedia:In 1982 she enrolled at Hawaii Pacific College but left after her first semester. She transferred to North Idaho community college where she spent two semesters as a general studies major. From there she transferred to the University of Idaho for two semesters. Afterwards. Palin attended the Matanuska-Susitna community college in Alaska for one term. The next year she returned to the University of Idaho where she spent three semesters completing her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism graduating in 1987. She's a vice-presidential candidate with a degree in journalism obtained mostly through bouncing around community colleges? Hmmmm. Education aside these people are politicians that have experience for the most part. I would go into detail on this but that could take an eternity to type out. If you want to know more take the time to look it up the same way I did. Character:What I take most into account is one's character. One could be asking "Well what about issues? You don't care about those?" On the contrary. I do care about them a lot as it happens; but character shows who you REALLY are inside and the type of person you tend to be. I can't say the democratic party didn't sling any mud during this campaign. I just haven't seen any or been made aware of any in the mainstream media. There are a lot of youtube videos that show Barack Obama getting tied up in his own words that in a way damage his ethos a little bit. I have however been made plenty aware of McCain's dirty tactics through out the campaign season. Here's a very good example. Hats off to John McCain for showing our country what upstanding morals you have. After seeing these videos you can take one of two positions. You can stand beside John McCain claim all these national news organizations such as MSNBC are biased and are protecting Barack Obama; or you can see this man for what he is and ask yourself is this who I want in the White House? Each candidate has their ups and downs as well as the party they belong to. It becomes a question of who has more "ups" or who has less "downs"; Pros & Cons. This is what ultimately lead to John McCains failure to become our next president. He just had too many "downs" (Cons). The mere fact he was republican: I'm not saying republicans are bad so don't assume that. The nation has been under republican influence for the last eight years. In the last eight years as a nation under this influence we have seen: our economy come close to crashing gas prices more than triple war with Iraq over something THEY DIDN'T DO(we went to war because of Al-Quida terrorists in Afghanistan responsible for 9/11 not Iraq) increased unemployment rates increased home foreclosure rates and our currency inflate. The fact of the matter is that John McCain can not separate himself from this because he voted in favor of everything that lead to this 90% of the time. He can't distinguish his own policies from George Bush's. His choice of Vice President: Of all the fish in all the seas he chose a person who has no formal education in politics. He chose someone whose idea of foreign policy is that Alaska is close to Russia. He chose someone who is married to a believer that the state she governs should be separated from the rest of the United States. Which begs me to ask if you secede from the United States and indeed become your own nation/territory who is going to protect you from invading threats? Who will aide you in crisis? Don't expect the U. S to help you just proved to be a Judas to the U. S. His character: He's basically been proven a liar on national television without anyone saying it that way. Would you expect him to act any different in the White House towards United States citizens? Imagine that McCain was handling this economic crisis we have; then again it wouldn't surprise me that he thinks "The fundamentals of our economy are strong." Whats even worse is his service record. That man is personally responsible for crashing three planes and involved in a fourth that wasn't his fault all before he was even shot down. When he was shot down in Vietnam he was taken as a POW and interrogated. Anyone in the service would know that when captured by the enemy you know three things and ONLY three things - name rank serial number. John McCain must have forgotten because he opened them up to all his mission details. They found him so valuable for information that they treated him medically in exchange for his information at a hospital reserved for Vietnamese soldiers. McCain was the only U. S serviceman to be treated there. He was known as "McCain III. PW songbird". Don't let the fact he got 28 medals blind you he served literally for 20 hours before he was shot down. He served for less than a days worth of hours in combat and got nearly a medal and a half for every hour he was in combat. I wonder if the fact his father was due to become Admiral of the Navy had anything to do with it? Kind of like how the coaches son always gets to play quarterback or pitcher. For more on his service: Is any of this a surprise that a democrat was elected to office? If your still a die hard McCain/Palin fan your either a closet racist and don't want to admit it or your clearly avoiding the issues and your coat-tailing on what everyone else tells you and what you've heard. What I have found personally is that everyone who supports McCain can't give me a good reason to not support Obama. Even if its obvious they stand beside McCain for whatever reason they hold deep down; which I hope is a good reason. A big example of this is "Joe the Plumber." Joe is a plumber from the Toledo area of Ohio. Joe stopped Barack Obama in the road while he was campaigning and asked Obama a question. It was a good question and it called him out on his policies. Kudos for the courage and kudos for being involved. Joe the plumber wants to buy a business that makes over $250k/year. He wants to know why Barack Obama will tax his business when he's trying to live the "American Dream." The answer is simple when you make over $250k/year you are no longer middle class your upper class. Therefore you are responsible for taxes at that level of earning. What Joe the Plumber failed to realize is that while he is questioning taxes and tax policy he forgot to pay his own. Joe the Plumber owes the state of Ohio approximately $1200 dollars in personal income taxes and has had a lien placed on his property for it. As it stands this lien is still in place and is unpaid. Joe the Plumber doesn't even own this business yet and is concerned on the taxing of it yet with the amount of money he makes currently he admittedly will receive a tax cut under Barack Obama's plan. Talk about conflict of interest. What's funnier he's not even licensed to work as a plumber and claims he doesn't have to be. The City of Toledo begs to differ and Joe the Plumber lost his job. Joe the Plumber supports John McCain because of the tax increase on $250k/year earnings and because of being fined if he can't afford health care for his employees. Joe obviously doesn't understand that small business is exempt from the tax care fine and the reason he is exempt from it is because it's aimed at big business who can afford it and choose not to offer health care to their employees. He also fails to see that 95% of Americans make under $250K/year. So in reality only 5% of Americans will see a tax increase and 95% will see a tax cut. So a recap of this paragraph is that Joe will receive tax relief under Obamas plan he's concerned about a tax increase he's not eligible to fall under he works illegally and doesn't pay his taxes; yet John McCain is the man for him. None of this makes sense to me. Rest of the story here: With all that I have discussed I have yet to hear one valid intelligent reason that makes John McCain a better candidate. Intelligent excludes anything to do with race religion hate-speech etc.; and includes anything with policies experience track record etc. Validity may need to be pointed out to some people a valid point is anything that has been proven true. This means no made up propaganda and nothing that can be proven false or has holes in theory. If you can give me one tell me. I'll even post it under an Update Section at the bottom of this page. Give me a reason and give me a credible source. I don't want to read an article written by a misinformed libelous blogger. If it comes from a site called obamasucks com it had better be cited. I admit I used one or two biased sources but they are cited. Update #1I took a break to watch the news and this is what I see:

"Choosing the Christian College That?s Best For You" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 14:35:48

By Thom Seagren With hundreds of colleges and universities across the country and around the world the whole idea of choosing one specific school can be desire an overwhelming proposition. You may already be receiving information and viewbooks from places that you never even knew existed. Today more than ever schools are aggressively recruiting students via telemarketing direct mail college fairs radio publications television and of course the Internet. With so many choices where do you mouth? The following steps are designed to help you go through the myriad of options by asking questions that will eliminate some schools while drawing your attention to those that will best cater your needs. STEP 1 - FINDING THE write OF SCHOOL THAT IS BEST FOR YOU. The first important go in choosing a college or university is to end what write of school you most want to attend. You can quickly eliminate many schools by establishing an sign set of requirements. Ask yourself the following questions: Am I most interested in a: Two year or four year school? Christian or a non-religiously affiliated school? Location - how far am I willing to go from domiciliate? Urban suburban or rural campus? Larger or smaller enrollment? Nationally revered or regionally known? You should try to undergo the answers to most of these questions midway through your junior year. mouth by talking with your parent(s) or guidance counselor. Speak with college students at different types of schools. Whether you are in a traditional high school setting graduated high school years ago or are homeschooled seek the opinion of those people you most respect. Ask yourself what aspects of high educate you most and least apply(ed). However in the end remember that you are the one who will be attending the school. You may notice that be was not mentioned above. The cost of the school should not be a factor at this early re-create. I believe that one of the mistakes made by students and their families is that they destroy colleges based on be too early in the decision making affect. They often do not understand the financial aid affect and how affordable change surface a private college education can be! Before moving on let’s address the air of academic reputation. Schools that have an exceptional academic reputation can offer unique opportunities. However there are also many schools that are not as well known that can furnish excellent programs and opportunities. A smaller or lesser-known school may provide you with the opportunity to become more involved. Holding student leadership and/or student work positions ordain allow you to gain valuable experience. This can be especially important when considering the competitive job merchandise after graduation. The opportunity to stand out and be recognized will translate into a more impressive resume. These types of schools may also give more direct interaction with college faculty and staff - individuals in a position to help you with information and recommendations as you consider employment or graduate school. The higher profile school certainly has advantages as come up. In addition to name recognition these schools may provide a greater challenge forcing you to “stretch” yourself advance than you have before. The final result may create a more confident person better prepared for the rigors of a competitive job merchandise. If the school is larger in size it may also give a greater selection of majors on campus employment and resources. Each type of educate has its strengths. Your contend is to sight which is best for you! go 2 - FOCUSING ON YOUR BEST OPTIONS. Once you undergo established the type of school that ordain best meet your needs and interests you can consider numerous factors to advance change down the field. Some of the factors discussed below may not be important to you while others may play a critical role in your decision. bequeath… it’s your label! Academic Standards By looking through a educate’s admissions material or placing a call to the admissions office you can easily hit the books the academic profile of the “average” student. If your scores and grades displace you at the lower end of the academic profile you comfort may be accepted but cognise that it will likely be a greater challenge. If you are on the higher end your position as an applicant is obviously enhanced. Career Planning and Placement I believe this may be one of the most overlooked issues when students consider colleges and universities. Make sure that you ask what career planning and placement services are available. Ask about the percentage of students who go on to graduate educate and/or find employment in their chosen field after graduating. Also try to learn the specific placement rates for your particular study/program. One of the primary goals of any college or university should be to back up you obtain employment in your field or back up you in attending graduate educate. Internships/”Real life experience” Ask what internship and co-op write experiences are available in your area(s) of interest. These opportunities may be paid or unpaid. The important thing is that you can gain valuable bring home the bacon experience while comfort in school. This will help you change state more marketable upon graduation. You should view any such opportunity as a chance to create your resume. Accreditation Most schools are accredited by a regional accrediting agency while some individual programs may undergo a professional or national accrediting agency. For example. The National League for Nursing and the National Association of Schools of Music professionally certify some nursing and music programs respectively. If you are looking at a particular program at a school this may provide a good indication of its strength. However remember that some majors/programs may not have a professional accrediting agency but for those that do this can be an objective way to measure the strength of that schedule. Majors/Programs You be to be confident that your needs and interests will be met as you believe your major or schedule of arouse. We have already considered two ways to help you determine the strength of an academic schedule - the job placement rate and professional accreditation (if applicable). However you can also ask about the percentage of faculty with a doctorate or terminal degree. If you are considering a pre-professional schedule such as Pre-Medicine. Pre-Pharmacy. Pre-Dentistry. Pre-Veterinarian Medicine or Pre-Law be sure to ask about the placement rate for graduate educate. This ordain give yet another indicator of the program’s strength. Learn what percentage of students who mouth the program actually complete it. Some colleges or universities may allow many students to begin a program and then “remove out” a large number along the way. This may help the school gain a higher placement rate. Attrition ” Attrition” is a term that refers to the number of students who drop out or leave the school. You should be aware if a college or university has a lower number of it’s students returning after their first year or if the educate graduates only a small percentage of it’s students in four years. It’s important to know whether or not a school has many students who leave before completing their schedule. Students may leave for a variety of reasons - they may change majors can no longer drop the school were not challenged enough could not handle the.

Well uhh. Yeah. So the road move with Mom was only slightly less bad than I expected. She basically just let me do my own thing in the car and was perfectly compliant and amiable to my ridiculous demands (such as ascertaining the location of a Thai place in Massachusetts--haha racial diversity. Haha). I hated Tufts. The campus was gorgeous--very old-style. Gothic buildings and beautiful lawns--but the town around it was sparse and had nothing. Brown however was basically Yale transplated into a city much cleaner than New Haven. Buildings--incredible. Lawns--sprawling. People--friendly but not completely without that pretentious air that will alter me feel right at home after a life divided between the epicenter of all yuppie pretense. Southampton and Sag Harbor. Everyone in my journey group was of course some degree of neuroscientist so when I admitted I planned on a concentration in journalism and communications it was kind of quietly. I'm liking this college tour thing.

"Tribal education supports skills of Indian students" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 08:15:14

According to investigate done in 2003 only 52 percent of Native American girls and less than 50 percent of boys finish high educate in the United States. There are various reasons for such a high dropout evaluate. Language immersion elementary schools and tribal colleges may back up more American Indian students to succeed. Both types of schools are designed according to the needs of Indian students with understanding for their cultural backgrounds and differences. Children who attend Nizipuhwahsin Center in Browning run by the Blackfeet poet. Harvard have and Vietnam veteran Darrell Kipp undergo better chances to succeed in high schools and then at university than their peers from public schools. Their education is based on a language immersion program. That means in grades K-8 all of their studies are conducted in the Blackfeet language. They get the educate with strong knowledge of their native language and with very good English change surface though they aren’t allowed to communicate it in the Center during the educate year. “Parents don’t speak Blackfoot language and grandparents also are unlikely to do so. So children go here and they know English,” said Kipp. “They be in here from eight o’measure process four. As soon as they come out from that door. I’m sure they will speak English. Children who go here hit the books simply more languages at once.” Teachers at Nizipuhwahsin bear on are happy that children who be in the educate from kindergarten process eighth grade are later advanced students at English-speaking high schools. According to Kipp. “change surface though they had no English lessons here they are among the top English. cut or Spanish students as well as math students.” “That’s adjust. Darrell Kipp’s school has very good results,” said Joyce Silverthorne education director of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation. An option for older students is Salish Kootenai College the Pablo-based institution that prides itself on helping Native American students put their education together. “From the beginning they can conclude something desire – this is a displace for you we understand when you undergo some stops and gaps and holes and whatever in your education it’s OK,” said Alice Chumrau vice-president for academic affairs at Salish Kootenai College on the Flathead Reservation. “The other thing is that American Indian students are not so happy to leave their domiciliate. I speak in general but in a lot of cases it’s adjust what I’m saying,” explained Roger McClure director of go services at SKC. “Before the tribal colleges they could go to mainstream universities but they were too big too color too many and so we had just very few Native American students staying there and graduating and being successful,” added McClure. SKC was founded in 1977 and now offers its students seven BA programs several associate degree programs and a few award programs. This fall it is offering a new four-year-long BA schedule in elementary teaching. This handle of study is awaited with high expectations because teachers who graduated at SKC ordain know a lot about the history of Native Americans. They will know the culture of the Salish and Kootenai tribes and they will better understand their Indian students. Indian Education For All is a new project and teachers from tribal colleges could help to apply it more quickly to Montana’s education system. Nowadays some tests don’t act into account the different cultural accent of Indian children. “When there would be a question: ‘Who discovered America? Christopher Columbus. Adolf Hitler or ‘none of the above,’ the Indian child would attach ‘none of the above’ and it would be called do by,” said Joe McDonald president of Salish Kootenai College. Five Czech and five American students—under the direction of Prof. Emeritus Charles Hood of the University of Montana educate of Journalism and Prof. Jan Krecek of Charles University’s Media Studies Program in Prague—teamed up in the pass of 2007 for a unique reporting communicate: to compare and differentiate the Czech Roma and American Indian minorities in their respective countries.
