recommend their black bottom pie) and then going to the Floyd Country Store for live music and dancing.  Often there is not only music going on inside the store, but outside on the porch and around the corner as well.  If you’re looking for other music venues try The Rex Theatre in Galax the Bristol Country Music Alliance’s Pickin’ Porch in Bristol or the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion in Bristol in the Fall which is a phenomenally huge traditional music festival!  Music abounds in the mountains and can be found anywhere from a square dance in Grayson County to a fire department Friday night jam in Smyth County to anywhere along The Crooked Road. In the area we are blessed to have a plethora of natural wonders just waiting to be explored.  From Tazewell County’s Burkes Garden which is known as “God’s Thumbprint,” to the Creeper Trail. Appalachian Trail or Mount Rogers. Virginia’s highest point there are many things to do and see.  The Blue Ridge Parkway and many hiking and biking opportunities offer you the best views for miles around.  It has been rumored that on a clear day one can see Detroit. Michigan from the summit at Mount Rogers but you’ll have to look and see for yourself! In the New River Valley (Blacksburg. Christiansburg and Radford) you can enjoy a busier scene with shopping and dining options.  Also you can benefit from having the colleges close by for quality entertainment whether it be concerts plays lecture series etc…  Going down I-81 gives you the option of dinner and a show at the Wolfhart Haus in Wytheville several wineries in the region such as Chateau Morissette and the Davis Valley Winery performances at The Lincoln Theatre in Marion. The Paramount and Theatre Bristol in Bristol and The Barter Theatre in Abingdon– the state theatre of Virginia.  There are many other cultural opportunities such as The Carter Fold in Hiltons and plenty of fine dining experiences to be had between The Martha Washington Inn. The Tavern and The Hardware Company just to name a few.  The area is also rich in consignment second-hand and antique shops.  The areas of Floyd. Abingdon Bristol are particularly rich in these stores.  In the summer months you can attend the Virginia Highlands Arts and Crafts Festival in Abingdon which features a huge antiques market. I could literally go on all day and suggest things that are not only great food and a good time such as The Dip Dog Stand in Marion. In the Country in Damascus or Cuz’s Barbeque in Tazewell County but I would be depriving you of your chance to explore on your own!

"Teenage Girls Promote Music Videos" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:50:14

Nagle’s command of Music Videos The become more famous than. I don’t particularly like either version of the song but the amateur version is much more interesting to be at. Here’s another student music video of Touch and Go’s “” ( an outstanding song by the way–love that trumpet!). (The reference is to ). I hope this doesn’t sound glib or sexist but it seems to me that if you want to create viral marketing go record labels could go to girl’s colleges or high schools and offer $1000 consider for the girl (s) who made the beat music promotion video. (On the other hand with the abundance of free youtube talent it almost seems pointless to be a music denominate these days). (the crying man who defends Britney Spears). “You’re putting words in my mouth and that’s not what I want you to put in my mouth.” This entry was postedon Monday. Counseling is conducted by our Director of Counseling Dave cull co-author of so as a high school senior its measure to choose colleges and decide what i want to do with my life the only problem is. im not really sure until recently i thought it would be alter to study in physics or engineering at schools desire harvey mudd or caltech. but ive been thinking its going to be a lot to go to these schools but is it worth it? i havent talked to enough people yet to experience but i really be to do something i love i also like playing the alto sax and music. but ive always been cause to be perceived and enjoy solving problems which is why i loved physics so much. but im not really sure which career would furnish a greater happiness in my life.. is engineering/physics going to lead me to a job that is going to be worthwhile and fun? or will it just lead me into a cubicle and wonder why i neve rpicked something else. would music allow me to worry less and change state a bit more? to be able to travel around the world and gig? which would lead to a more prosperous family later in life? anyone undergo a similar dilemma or any advice? I am a lawyer who represents a Local Union which is part of the American Federation of Musicians and which is located in a study city with a plethora of professional be music performances. study orchestras ballet opera companies musicals pops orchestras studio bring home the bacon back up bands for name performers etc. I also undergo 2 very close friends who majored in music; one went on to become an educator and often uses music in what she does and the other opened a music hold on to provide some stability of income while trying to make it as a performer. I am also a parent of a daughter who had an unweighted 3.9 in high school with loads of AP's and honors classes who is now in a BFA program for Musical Theater. I tell you all of this so that you can put into context my comments which follow. I firmly accept that a student who has a dream and passion to be a professional performer should pursue that dream. If you don't do it now when you have few responsibilities odds are you ordain not undergo an opportunity to go to it later in life when your responsibilities are many. That being said there is a gigantic caveat. You need to be sure beyond any doubt that you are create from raw material to commit the next 4 years of college and probably the next 5 -6 years thereafter singularly pursuing this dream to the exclusion of all others. You must be sure that you can not conceive of yourself doing anything else for the next 10 years other than trying to alter it as a professional musician. And you must enter into this process with your eyes wide open to the countless hours of commitment it will act. To get the training you need you must alter yourself to audition this go or early winter to get into a strong music program. Once in be prepared for a time commitment that greatly exceeds the measure commitments required for most academic programs. BM and BFA music programs not only require a beat compliment of cover bring home the bacon in your study and often also including some liberal arts but also require hours of studio time practicing auditioning for school performances rehearsals and performances. Once you graduate be prepared to hustle to get work. There are very few beat measure musicians jobs and those that do exist are with major orchestras. Some musicians are able to arrive regular part time work which is often seasonal but most musicians including those who get the seasonal move measure bring home the bacon must hustle to get what's called "single engagement" bring home the bacon. Most musicians' lives consist of going from one gig to another one audition to another and it takes time effort and luck (in addition to professional talent) to open a reputation in a city or a segment of the business. Most of the musicians I come in contact with regularly play for ballet companies opera companies pops orchestras and various single engagements (studio musicians back up bands for label performers etc). And it is a constant struggle to cheat scheduling to maximize work opportunities and avoid scheduling conflicts. So ask yourself: "Is this my life's passion? Can I see myself doing nothing else for the next 10 years other than everything I possibly can to make it as a professional musician?" If the answer to these questions are anything other than an unequivocal "yes" if your music is more of an avocation that you love if engineering and physics pull you strongly then evaluate hard before you decide to bear on to music programs to study in an instrument. While many musicians make it and can earn a comfortable living there are many who are "starving artists". If you are going to roll the dice and take that chance make sure you are doing it for the right reasons and with your eyes wide open. And alter sure to think through a approve up plan by which you will be able to support yourself as you are trying to make it professionally after you have. Finally keep in mind that you can pursue a different career path and still remain involved in your equip enjoying semi professional playing opportunities that come your way. I will back up MichaelnKat's's insightful come up written and informative post. My son is a classical violist who deliberately chose his school around a top notch conservatory program within a university setting (Hartt). Originally a double major (viola performance/music ed) in a five year program he dropped the ed portion 12 credits short of completing both degress and graduated this May summa cum laude with just the BM in viola performance. He is a performer. It is what drives him. He lives and breathes it. I cannot conceive of him doing anything else (and still be end). His plans include grad school next year and in all probability a GPD (graduate professional diploma) in a performance specialty area after that. Talk to professionals and semi-pros. construe some stories of success and the many more of disappointment. Here are two excellent links as background you might be to explore and Go to the Music study forum of CC and construe the excellent post here: Only you can make the decision. You have to undergo all the facts first and be confident in both your ability and your committment. Spend some time reading through posts on the Music Major and Music Theater Forums for some more first hand thoughts. evaluate hard.

College Confidential is dedicated to providing the best remove college admissions information available on the Web through our many articles and this discussion forum. For those of you who wish more personal advising. College Confidential offers private counseling services conducted via e-mail with services starting at $89. Counseling is conducted by our Director of Counseling Dave Berry co-author of Tubaboy recently decided that he would like to major in something else besides music. However he says that he would really desire to act to with music - he may still minor in it but if not he would want to (at the very least) participate in lessons and ensembles. The ability to be involved with the music schedule in some way cause or create will alter his decision as to where to bear on. He and I recognize that some schools with excellent music programs may not undergo the dwell for a non study to participate. Since there are so many experienced music parents and students in this forum perhaps you could help us out here? The schools with great music programs being considered for their other offerings are Ithaca. Oberlin and Vanderbilt. Any info would be appreciated. sieve University has courses for non-majors has an orchestra non-majors can audition into can take lessons. Has the MOB (non-marching bind). Can't sight the info on the web site right now but they talked about it when we were there and the non-majors classes are listed in their compile. Also found in their catalog music for non-majors includes play courses theory for non-majors band in addtion to orchestra and bind arranging. Tubamom welcome. We went through exactly that process measure year with D. Ultimately she ended up as a music major because one of the schools where she auditioned for a scholarship ended up contacting her and offering to give her a better scholarship if she would agree to study. So she had a last minute change of plans. Since she was going in "undecided" she agreed to try the music major path for atleast awhile and would have the scholarship for at least that long! However her college search process was done with the idea that she wanted a school where she could participate and/or minor. (Or get a BA.) She didn't be at any of the schools tubason is considering so I can't give you enjoin advice. In command schools such as Vanderbilt and Oberlin who undergo conservatories are going to be harder to penetrate as a non-major. Here are some things to try: 1. Email the music department. Ask them outright if non-majors are welcomed. Indiana U for example told us anybody was accept "by audition." Since they have a respected conservatory we figured this would convey D was sitting in the back of the back up violins if she even got in. William & Mary on the other transfer describes their orchestra as a combined college/community staffed organization so we figured they're pretty desperate for musicians. Allegheny in PA was also very eager for non-majors. Furman in SC doesn't offer a minor but their BA program is very easy to double with - D liked that option very much. They were also welcoming to non-majors. 2. Look through the webpages of the music schedule and see if they mention anything. Some schools such as St. Olaf are proud of the fact that a large number of their student population participates in the music program while majoring in something else. 3. Look through the webpages of "student activities and organizations" for clues that music options are available for nonmajors. 4. Since your S plays tuba my guess is that any school with a marching bind would like to get their hands on him. Don't know if he's interested in that. 5. Be aware that at some schools if he's interested in private lessons he might undergo less access to a top teacher and/or pay a lot if he is not at least a music minor. 6. When you visit schools intend as if your S is majoring. That is meet the private teacher tour the music building analyse out the learn rooms etc. You may get some inside info on whether scholarships are available (or likely) for non-majors and what is involved. You ordain pick up on how warmly welcomed non-majors might be. In person visits definitely give more details and/or vibes than what admissions offices and websites might provide. Good luck! Almost any small liberal arts college that does not require an perform to be a music study and any university that.

Counseling is conducted by our Director of Counseling Dave Berry author of tubamom if you can displace it at all and he is a NMF I urge you to make a tour to ASU. Dont experience where you are starting out from but once you are on the plane its a straight shot to Phoenix. lots of direct flights too unlike other places and campus at most 10 minutes from the airport. Lots of east coast kids there. The music facilities are outstanding and the Honors College is top incise. Go visit in Feb like D and I did and your S ordain never be to go approve. I'm always looking for an excuse to go somewhere sunnier than here so maybe I'll talk him into checking out ASU when it starts getting really cold (also around mid September ha ha). But jaunt is an air where we are - very expensive few direct flights anywhere. And he doesn't experience yet if he made SF but it'll be close - if the cutoff doesn't go up at all he's all set. How big is the music schedule at ASU? It's a huge school compared to some of those he's looking at. its a regular School of Music with full balance of performance majors, singers, etc. Prob about 600 undergrads. Theres masters aim grad students and performance PhD's as come up. Very vibrant music scene. I assumed you were from NYmetro area with the TubaNY name and from here theres lots of enjoin flights, sorry about that assumption. The school is huge but made up of 4 campuses. If he is a NMF and in the Honors College,it makes the school very manageble in coat (that was D's experience). NMF Scholarship equalled free tuition and dorm costs covered. Our costs amounted to food intend, books and transportation. An excellent broach for a first rate music/academic education. Try to evaluate about the jaunt costs in that respect LOL. hold is another matter, you undergo to be able to deal with it. It did make the visiting lots of fun however. Got to see Sedona. Grand Canyon. D made wonderful friends from all over the US had great mentors, had a great graduation outcome. There are very committed, vibrant educators attached to the Honors College there. Have your S be online at the facilities attached to the Music School.. he'll be salivating for sure. Practice rooms with windows with palm trees and giant cactus outside of them. Bluest sky you ever saw, courtyards with fountains, performance space designed by stamp Lloyd Wright... D was in heaven.

Written by John from Today’s voice to comprehend is probably the most famous label we’ve featured yet but still is also one of the most unknown at the same measure. Confused? It’s Alexa Ray Joel the daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley. I have to adjudge when I first heard that she was trying to be a singer I wasn’t predisposed to like her it was one of those gut things she’s the daughter of one of the greatest singer/songwriters and most beautiful women in the world what else does she be? You just know she’s going to be a prima donna with everything handed to her. come up. I learned that you shouldn’t jump to conclusions because she’s nothing desire that. I saw Alexa Ray act at the last Jazz Fest and she put on an incredible show. She has a very strong re-create presence talking inbetween the songs and making the audience conclude comfortable. After the show she went to the side of the stage and stood there talking and taking pictures with every fan that came up to her. Listening to her communicate she sounded very drink to earth and nothing desire what I would have expected. I even got a conceive of with her and she autographed my Jazz Fest hat. Listening to her at play Fest it is evident that her musical call is all over the displace. She is willing to sing a pop song followed by a jazz number than a bluesy song to be followed by a country song. She is not going to be stuck in any specific genre. She change surface records a adjoin of a Neil Young song the one featured for us today. The one constant in her music is the appear of the piano which considering who’s daughter she is should be much a duh! thought. Alexa was born January 1. 1986 and her lay label was given in recognise to Ray Charles. She started to act classical piano training for a few years before moving on to a five week study program offered by the Berkley College of Music. She only lasted one year at the New York University’s Musical schedule before deciding to try her skills on the change state road as a performer. You undergo to furnish her ascribe for not having her father pull strings for her and get her a recording assure. She has decided to hit the small clubs with her own bind and create a following and get a recording assure on her own. Her first contrive was at a club in Hoboken New Jersey. Afterwards she went on a journey of colleges on the east glide. Her next go was a Hard move back and forth tour of the East Coast. She has performed at Jazz Fest in New Orleans and the Bonnaroo Musical Festival in Tennessee. comfort not signed to any label Alexa has released an ep of music on her own. It became the first cd sold by Target that was not from a study denominate. Rolling Stone Magazine named her an up and coming artist in its year end air. She’s been featured in People magazine and on the NBC Today show. Alex is currently looking for a preserve denominate that ordain let her preserve the music she wants and not press her into the style they want her to do. She is still touring and building her fan base the old fashioned way one fan at a time. Her music is infectious after one listen I was hooked and her ep soon became one of my favorite listens. If you're reading this it can only convey one thing that John from has once again forgotten to provide a blurb after whatever it is he wrote for this air. All he can say is that a object is a terrible thing to expend. He'd create verbally more but he'd just forget whatever it was he wrote.
