At 3:30 a m. Saturday morning 150+ 10-16 year old kids from neighborhoods throughout Dallas (17 with our group) boarded five Dallas County Schools buses to depart for our whirlwind trip to Houston and Galveston arranged by Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway and many other city staff. Around 10:30 a m we arrived at our first stop the NASA Space Center Houston. Each child was given a disposable camera to capture their memories. With no time to spare we headed straight to the tram to make the 11:00 tour. After touring the grounds where the astronauts train seeing a real live control center and observing the gravity simulation center we made our way back to the food court. Though we had a few organization glitches the 22 kids on our bus were absolutely wonderful and patient. After eating a great lunch in the food court we boarded the buses again and headed on to Galveston. Stop #2 was Moody Gardens in Galveston. The kids thoroughly enjoyed seeing the sharks sting rays seals and so much more! They were fascinated by touching starfish and watching the penguins swim at lightning speed through the water popping every once in a while to show off their skills. After making our way through the aquarium we crossed to the next building to walk through the simulated rain forest where we saw birds overhead posed for pictures in front of the flamingos and took pictures of the tree frogs. Without any time to spare we were directed back to the buses so we could get back to Houston. Unfortunately the over-ambitious plans of taking college tours of the University of Houston and Texas Southern University turned into viewing the colleges from the windows of the bus. I must admit I was happy to hear 13-year old DaQwalon express disappointment that he was missing out on a college tour. I ensured him we would make some more college trips. We picked up chicken from the TSU hangout. Frenchie's took a very needed bathroom break and were on our way back to Dallas. At 2:00 a m. Saturday morning we were pulling back into City Hall. After waiting for parents dropping off kids and taking a few home with me. 24 hours from the time I started. I was back at home. A BIG. HUGE thanks to Mike and Venita Davis. Shonda and Sylvia for such an amazing job sticking with the kids ensuring we all got bathroom breaks when needed and keeping the kids engaged during down time. Of course thanks to Dwaine Caraway. "SHSU, TSU fall in NCAA Tournament openers" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-06-10 06:18:16

The Bearkats jumped out to a 1-0 bring about in the top of the first inning when Bobby Verbick drove in Todd Sebek with a one-out single but Rice (43-13) scored twice in the third to act a 2-1 bring about. Braeden Riley tied the bet with a RBI-single in the top of the fourth but the Owls regained the lead when Chad Mozingo drove in Rick Hague with a sacrifice-fly RBI in the furnish close in. The Bearkats wouldn't get anything else off Owls starter Ryan cull and reliever Bobby Bell. cull gave up only two runs (one earned) over six innings and Bell tossed three ameliorate innings of relief to earn his second save. Kudos to Bearkats freshman righthander Dallas Gallant who tossed an eight-inning complete game allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks. He kept the Bearkats in contention but his offense didn't furnish him much to bring home the bacon with. Meanwhile. Texas Southern didn't have any exceed luck in its opener at the Baton make up (La.) Regional. The and ordain approach second-seeded New Orleans which fell 13-6 to third-seeded Southern Miss in an elimination game at 1 p m. Saturday. Both local teams will undergo a prepare time. SHSU ordain need another solid pitching outing as they did tonight to get a win over Texas. Would really be nice to see the Kats knock off Texas. UNO is throwing their No. 4 pitcher (mid-week starter) in hopes of saving their big guys for LSU or USM. A assay that paid off for LSU today. This UNO aggroup will be the beat offensive team TxSo has seen all year better than Texas and LSU. If TxSo is not careful. UNO ordain park a few beyond the outfield protect.

"Where does App. State rank?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:15:30

In a significant dress of policy the Associated touch announced a major change Thursday in the voting for its college football survey. In the aftermath of Division I-AA Appalachian State knocking off then-No. 5. 34-32 the AP has decided there should be no command against ranking a lower-division school -- as long as that team competed against a Division I-A opponent. Only teams that were I-A (now known as Football roll Subdivision) were eligible under the previous poll guidelines. They don't. They got lucky. get it at that. One bet does not make them the all Powerfull OZ. If they suffer a game this year all the consume eveyone has been blowing up there you know what will disappear and you all ordain be eating your words!! Be carefull of false Idols! The problem here is that this will probably be their only game against a Div I aggroup this toughen (I don't have their schedule) and most Div II teams do not play outside their unify. So ranking them is just an opinion and guesswork. Their is not enough data to know for sure how they would do against the rest of the top 25. They deserve credit for beating Michigan but I can't see them beating many of the top 25 especially those with a defense. What will come about is people are going to be ASU in the bottom of the top 25 they ordain not lose against their lower division rivals and we have another Boise State on our hands. As a sports fan I am for anything that creates a little bit of controversy with the BCS. Give me a playoff already! Also as a UM fan it looks better at the end of the year when your only loss is against a ranked team. I loved the bet as much as anyone and AppState has a fantastic I-AA program but what is the point of ranking them?I-AA schools have their own ranking system and their own postseason play. Putting AppState in the top 25 does nothing. Where does Michigan rank in the I-AA system? They lost to the top I-AA school by 2 points. That's not so bad. UM should at least be in the 20-25 range. This is silly. If they were to be ranked it should have been after week 1. After that they'd get pushed down by more and more teams going 2-0. 3-0 and 4-0 because those teams are playing tougher opponents. I am as big a BLUE fan as anyone they beat us and they defeat us good. It hurts to say that but that is the truth. They did not get "lucky" we were not prepared and lost on our turf. Carr should commit suicide like the Japanese do fall on a sword! compete just one Div I opponent to answer for rankings? Just doesn't alter comprehend. T25 should just stay the way it is. And better said. T25 is a purely Div. I ranking system. However. I think preseason rankings are meaningless and just give an favor to monied programs with a history that may or may not be relevant to their current program. Rankings should go away after the first game when pollsters can see how teams actually played. This way no aggroup gets a head go away which pre-season rankings unfairly (and way too often inaccurately) end up doing. Just put them on at Number 25 because they did defeat Michigan. Michigan did not suffer they were beaten by the victorious Appalachian State. As a fan of Big Blue they need to put it behind them and beat Oregon. Carr needs to tell them look we blew one and the national championship is gone. Lets go to Pasadena. Boys!!Or if you all saw what Lou Holtz's prep communicate I would furnish that one too if I was Carr. It was pretty good. I desire the new rating. It'll keep the Div 1-A schools on their toes if a 1-AA educate go away to out be them. Can't wait to see Texas express and Delaware Fightin Blue Hens scare the day lights out of USC. Texas LSU and Florida. Go Ivy unify Conference LOL HA HA HA HA HA HA

"Another raise for UT's Mack" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:18:16

The University of Texas System come in of Regents ordain convene today to consider a pay raise that could push head coach Mack Brown over the $3 million salary threshold. cook who turned 56 on Monday currently makes $2.6 million a year on a 10-year contract he signed at the end of the 2004 season. The broach includes an automatic $100,000 increase each year. Athletic director DeLoss Dodds declined mention when asked about the regents' agenda. He did acknowledge that a new broach was in the works. comprehend that parents you query why it be so much to displace your kids to college. Gotta pay the coach and pay the coach and pay the coach that's just football bequeath they have other sports also. Don't worry though they don't pay the teachers sit. Don't some of the rich alumni help pay the bill on Mack's salary? I seem to bequeath reading about that happening at other schools. Either way he's helped transform The University of Texas into one of the biggest moneymakers in college sports. He definitely deserves a raise for the product he's put on the field as well as how much he's filled UT's coffers. When you put 80,000 fans in the stands at $60 a ticket you can confirm a salary desire that. Not to mention when you are ranked first by a mile in merchandising sales.. the revenue the football team brings in excedes the tuition of hundreds of students http://www clc com/clcweb/publishing nsf/Content/Third+Quarter+Rankings+January+1+2007+walk+31+2007As for teacher's salaries. I'd say Texas is doing fine in that department as come up pulling down around 115k a year. -- not bad for 9 months of work. 20 hours a week plus some office hours http://www purdue edu/DataDigest/pages/peer_university/peer_faculty_salary htm When 100,000 populate come to check a Sociology Teacher inform his/her categorise then you can talk. When fans of the educate start buying accommodate that the teachers wear then go away talking. I'm so sick of people complaning about teachers salaries. Umm you knew when you went to college to inform you didnt get paid anything and people comfort do it. So get over it. Most universities do not make money off their football aggroup. Even if football was the only sport then a few of the top tier programs would actually alter a acquire at the end of the year if they went to a BCS bowl. You have to evaluate in all the other expenses. Scholarships dwell and board for the players all the asst coaches and support cater upkeep of the facilities grounds man concessions security jaunt expenses and on and on. The you undergo Title IX that law that says for every mens feature on campus you have to undergo equal sports and facilities for the women. I doubt the track swimming soccer and other sports are operating in the color after all the above expenses for each of those. The big money in football only means that the other sports have less of a negative impact. But a recent study showed that most every educate does not make money at sports.
