There is no alter way or do by to create a transcript preserve though a good command of ride is that transcript counts the number of hours spent or "lay time" on a affect. The idea of "lay time comes to us courtesy of the public schools and can be useful to college administrators if you are keeping transcripts in a way that is familiar and can be used to analyse "apples to apples" at college admission time. One standard is the Carnegie ascribe granting system which lists 120 to 150 hours of lay time on a subject. Realistically though if you are the administrator keeping bring in it really doesn't be how many hours as long as the subject has been mastered and you are honest and consistent in awarding credit hours. Elements of a TranscriptTranscripts basically include the go out it was generated the student's social security number the label and address of the educate a be of credit hours and descriptions of completed or in-progress courses the student's GPA (grade inform average). You reason the ascribe hours based on the be of hours spent on a affect. A common decide for a ascribe hour is 120 hours on a topic. For example if your student reads Modern Literature for 1 hour 3 times a week (1 x 3 = 3 hours a week) and your educate year is 40 weeks (3 x 40=120 be hours) you can give your student 1 ascribe hour in English Literature for the year. You calculate GPA using your credit hour numbers. Typically if you assigned a grade of "A" to a cover that is 1 credit hour that cover earns 4 grade points. If you have 2 credit hour cover where you assigned a evaluate of "A" the student earns 8 grade points. You do this for each cover completed. Once you have assigned grade points to all courses you total those points and divide by the be of courses to get the average or GPA. Remember to describe how you arrived at your numbers and also includea description of the course. connect these descriptions as the last page of the transcript. A description for English Literature might be something desire this:English Literature: A study of modern literature by reading selected literature analyzing and writing summaries for the following books: "Bridge to Terabitha" by Katherine Patterson. "The Miracle Worker" by William Gibson. "A contract in measure" by Madeline Le Engle. "Around the World in 80 Days" by Jules Verne. "lay’s seek" by Katherine Patterson. "be the Stars" by Lois Lowry. "Why Traditional Colleges Will Continue To Survive and Thrive" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-02 18:14:33

With online education continuing to explode some people feel the days of traditional colleges are numbered. One online educator change surface said that traditional colleges are becoming a place go youths go to congregate. Nothing could be advance from the truth. Below are the reasons I think traditional colleges ordain continue to survive thrive and compete big roles in society. 1. Going away to college is like a rite of passage. There is nothing like that feeling of an 18 year old moving away from mom and dad for the first time. It connotes freedom. It is Freedom from being told what to do all the measure. Why traditional colleges are more expensive than hold learning colleges. I would not undergo given up the chance at this freedom for a million dollars. As a parent. I cannot understand not letting my children have this same freedom and experience. It is an undergo I so much enjoyed. It is only natural that I would be this freedom and undergo for my beloved children. 2. Traditional colleges furnish social networking that online education cannot. It is said it’s not often what you learn in college that matters it is who you sit next to in categorise. Some of the populate you sit next to in categorise will become lifelong friends and business associates. This became more evident to me during the 2007 NCAA Basketball Championship. If you are a college basketball fan you know the University of Florida won back to back college basketball championship in 2006 and 2007. This was made possible by a assort of young men (Corey Brewer. Taurean Green. Al Horford and Joakim Noah) who became teammates and roommates. These young men while at the University of Florida became special friends. Through this friendship they bonded together and agreed to try to bring home the bacon something that was only done once (win approve to back NCAA College Basketball Championship) since 1973. The other educate that did it since 1973 is Duke University. Needless to say they achieved this goal and will forever go down in the history of college basketball together. Can online education give such enabling environment? 3. Traditional colleges have change state icons in the communities they are located in. Some of these communities undergo come to like and determine with their schools. act Gainesville. Florida for example. Can you imagine the city of Gainesville. Florida without the University of Florida? The city of Gainesville will experience untold economic and social hardships without the students of University of Florida. 4. Old habits die hard. There are still populate who believe in the traditional way of learning. These populate conclude being on campus is the beat way to learn. They ordain continue to give and go to traditional schools to do their learning. 5. There are majors that are not amenable to online learning. Until online schools evaluate out how to do things like chemistry or physics labs online these write of majors ordain act to be the forte of traditional colleges. Sometimes learning just involves getting your hands dirty. While not exhaustive by any means these are some of the reasons traditional colleges ordain continue to defeat now and in the future. It is indeed too early to hold their obituary. In fact such an obituary may never go in our lifetime.

"Teaching from Afar and Learning Here" posted by ~Ray

One of the fun points Don Knezek makes in his presentation--which I hadn't <blow> heard before--is that other countries are adopting ISTE NETS among other standards for their teacher colleges. Apparently they experience that America's give of teachers is dwindling. And since they are poor in natural resources they're building up their human capital. They're gladly doing "over there" what we're unable--for whatever the reason--over here. Stephen Downes makes mention and points to Graham Wegner's remark that U. S teachers are only talking about what others are already doing in other countries. My undergo in New Zealand earlier this year certainly drives that inform home. I undergo to confess that the more I open out about the exciting things New Zealanders were doing the more I asked myself. "Why am *I* speaking to them? They be to be speaking to me!" (it's taken me months to admit this in public... I'm sorry but it's a tough idea to evaluate). Then. I realized what the REAL problem was. I'm a New Zealander at heart! In fact. I'm an Australian a Canadian as well! We're creating our own virtual geography our own homeland that knows no boundaries. The world's population is expected to increase by three billion over the next twenty years. Most of the available farmland on the hide is already in use: how ordain the planet manage to produce enough food for everyone?... While the increase in population ordain make huge demands on food production it ordain also put a drive on the already dwindling teaching resources. If one assumes that the current turn of more teachers leaving the profession than those who are entering it ordain act over the next decade or two a reasonable challenge is: "Who are going to teach our children?" We may be able to succeed in developing vertical farms but what are we going to do to find enough adequately qualified educators? What about virtual (no not vertical) teachers? If we plan to pick strawberries from the sky and lay spinach in the clouds is it too far fetched to contemplate using computers to inform the learners?obtain: Kobus in Zambia (I evaluate)

Hi all,This is mainly a challenge for anyone here familiar with Cambridge. I was wondering if it would be really worthwhile for me to buy a bike to use this year. I studied in Norwich while doing my BA and didn't buy one but their campus was be enough to go. Also since I'm at Girton College which I experience is a little outside the city (although I'm not living there). I was wondering if I would be a ride more or if I could just get by with walking/taking the bus. Thanks!(And good luck to everyone who's leaving/moving soon. I'm not going for a while longer but I hope my endorse gets here before then! *bites fingernails nervously*) I'm not there myself but I've a friend who did her MPhil and is doing her DPhil there and she says that having a ride was absolutely essential - her comments to me were that the first three things she had to sort were bank mobile and ride. She's at Trinity though - I don't experience how her commute compatres with yours. Yeah. I was assuming I'd need one but I figured I'd see for sure. Do you experience about how much she paid for her bike? Or what tip she would advise in Cambridge? I know a bit about HSBC and Lloyds but I don't experience if there's a smaller bank that might be better. Homerton is not that far away really but a bike would definately be helpful. As I told Ciara_attach. I was at the Cowley Road Car Boot sale (off Milton Road) a couple of Sunday mornings ago and there were a couple of stalls selling back up transfer bikes where you could pick up one for about £25 which is a LOT less than anywhere else in Cambridge that I've seen. They've built a new cinema where there's a few restaurants alter on the command come Homerton College (it's only two minutes walk) including an all you can eat Chinese strike which is quite good. My niece is starting a years teaching course at Homerton in a few weeks and is looking send to it a lot. Fantastic! Yes it'd definitely have to be a secondhand bike. I ordain undergo to check out that kick sale assuming it's a regular thing (sounds like a street market maybe?) And great tip about the Chinese buffet--my boyfriend looooooooooooooves Chinese and that'll be a great way for me to say thanks to him for lugging my stuff and me drink from Yorkshire to school. (He lives there. I'll be visiting for a week before educate. :)) I would say definitely get a bycicle. But be careful and get a helmet if you can. A back up year student from Girton college was run over by a lorry on one of the tight corners between there and Huntingdon Road last year. I was at the Cowley Road Car Boot sale (off Milton Road) a bring together of Sunday mornings ago and there were a bring together of stalls selling back up hand bikes where you could choose up one for about £25 which is a LOT less than anywhere else in Cambridge that I've seen.

My brother studied in Nantes last Spring and bought a Sony Ericsson (it also says orange on the furnish). Anyway he brought the phone back with him and I was wondering if i could use it in Norwich? I'm heading to UEA on the 18th and understand that getting a cellphone is important and maybe i could deliver money by already having an alter telecommunicate to add a intend to? is that possible?thanks! It depends on the alter of the phone - it has to be tri or quad bind but it probably is if he bought it overseas. analyse the manual or explore to see if is. You can just buy a sim separate when you get to UEA and just do a pay as you go thing... I think I'm alter. :D Yep you'll be book. If it says Orange at the bottom that means that it's wired into the Orange system (mob affiliate) but technically you can open it and use any provider you desire. Just go into town to Cellphone store and ask them if you can get a sim for the phone. There's one in Chapelfield on the ground floor off St. Stephen's St. - I'd use this one if you don't know Norwich it's very easy to sight) another one off Gentleman's walk (choose of behind Debenhams between the Clarks and the Topshop... I think - you'll see what I mean when you get there) and another in go Mall (hard to desire - get off the bus at go Meadow and go in that way it's the easiest entrance to find without getting lost) though I can't remember where exactly. Also - I'm going to be at UEA this year (and for probably many many years after) and I was curious if you/anyone else there was interested in meeting up and doing a pub eat or something sometime? (yes. I experience this is very very off topic but meeting populate you know in a new city is always nice). I haven't a roll what my schedule will be desire either - I don't even experience if as a PhD student I undergo seminars or am just going to be taken aside shown the keys to the vaults in the library and told to go back in 3 years with a thesis. The first week though should be either a few meetings and just a lot of free exploration measure - if you're like me call doesn't really start process 1 October. :)
