November 13. 2008COMMITMENT ALERT: Tony Freeland. 6'5 F from Fremont HS of Los Angeles (CA) picked up a commitment on the first day of the early signing period when Los Angeles forward Tony Freeland selected the Blue Demons. The (Varsity Times Insider) and signed letter of intent with Jerry Wainwright's program. Projected 2009-2010 Roster:Seniors: Will Walker (PG)Juniors: Darquavis Tucker (SG). Mac Koshwal (PF). Mario Stula (G/F). Mike Stovall (G/F)Sophomores: Mike Bizoukas (PG). Eric Wallace (F). Jeremiah Kelly (PG). Devin Hill (F). Krys Faber (C). Kene Obi (C)Freshmen: Tony Freeland (F)------------------------READ MORE.... Click Below!!------------------------Less than a week after taking an official visit to DePaul. Tony Freeland is a signed sealed and delivered new member of the Blue Demon program. The Fremont High School standout signed a letter of intent with DePaul yesterday the first day that 2009 basketball recruits could sign binding letters of intent. Last season at Fremont a Los Angeles High School. Freeland was a standout for the Pathfinders as his relentless effort in the paint allowed him to be more productive than the many bigger players he was matched up against. Freeland is a very good athlete that plays with a strong motor. His game is more of a power forwards at this stage even though he is 6-foot-5 but he has potential because of his athletic ability to transition to the wing landed their first commitment from the class of 2009 back in September and in doing so they make some inroads locally as JUCO standout Mike Stovall is coming back home to finish his college career at DePaul. The 6-foot-5 Stovall originally signed with Oregon State after a high school career at Chicago's Marshall High School. At Oregon State Stovall played in just seven games last season scoring six points in 38 total minutes of action. Stovall left the school after one semester as he never felt comfortable that far from home and enrolled at Mineral Area College in a program that usually has several players from the Chicago area. Stovall will compete this season at Mineral Area and then move on to DePaul with two years of eligibility left. Stovall is an athletic and versatile guard who can shoot it from deep. As a senior he averaged around 20 points and 8 rebounds for the Commandos of Marshall and coach Lamont Bryant. Another new face on the floor for 2009-2010 at will be Ohio State transfer Eric Wallace. Wallace visited DePaul last spring and cancelled a visit to LSU last weekend when he decided that he would make the Blue Demons his future team. After sitting out the 2008-2009 season with DePaul. Wallace will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2009-2010 season. Wallace played just 72 minutes last season in 15 games with the Buckeyes averaging 1.8 PPG. Wallace is a 6’7 forward originally from North Carolina who spent an extra prep season at Hargrave Military Academy before signing with Ohio State. We are still trying to pinpoint exactly where the recruiting priorities for are in the class of 2009. With the latest addition of Freeland one scholarship is open for the class of 2009 and to improve their the Blue Demons should aggressively pursue a difference maker that can score in the spring signing period. Guards of Marshall in Chicago and John Taylor of North Lawndale Prep also seem to be on the radar. Smith is looking like a spring signee at this point and there is some sentiment that Taylor could wind up going the JUCO route or attend prep school. Other resources for DePaul and midwest recruiting news include and who all do a great job covering Midwest recruiting and updates often with news from DePaul on the recruiting trail. Our favorite source of DePaul specific information is which has returned to keep DePaul fans up to date on all the happenings around the program.

"Mike Kelley Interview with Leta Ming" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 11:22:18

One of the most unexpected aspects of running a gallery was the general lack of awareness about the art industry. I say industry but it's actually several "industries" each with their own functions economies and agendas. Academic institutions museums art press patrons galleries and of cover artists all alter something to what might be called "our esthetic preferences at the moment." One of the reasons why I wanted to write for the blog was to create some transparency about those aspects which I best understand the systems of support called galleries and museums. Some of those tasks are creative in their own alter. I would biasly argue curating for dilate is another form of art production or at least that's how I see it. In the future will communicate some of those tasks creative and non …purely on a time based percentage basis it's mostly none by the way but that’s for another time. Today I wanted to furnish some attention to the learn of curating. What do curators do what do they contribute to artists our understanding of art and our grow. With the opening of the impressive exhibition at Barnsdall last Sunday. I thought it might be a good idea to have a young curator fresh off a communicate shed some light on the affect. I contacted Leta Ming one of the curators for the Curators act to alter comprehend of art production at any moment. They determine themes and ideas that concern artists and carry them to lighten by assembling various works into an exhibition. Of cover any exhibition is also a partial and subjective statement by the curator and is just one interpretation of the particular works included in the show. Each communicate requires a different solution or a different selection of works. I believe that to be a responsible curator one should constantly question one's sensibilities and not get too cozy with any one write of art practice. Mark Greenfield the Director of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery has been making a concerted effort to arrive out to various communities in the city and he was working with Yong Soon Min one of my co-curators to develop a show that would feature or challenge to Asian Americans. I had known Yong Soon through the Asian American art community and she invited me to connect the project because of my interest in humor in art. The three co-curators of this exhibition shared all of the tasks of networking to determine potential artists organizing and conducting studio visits with artists selecting works writing curatorial statements preparing press and marketing materials such as a website and touch releases designing the exhibition layout fundraising and organizing special events. Perhaps a better way to break down the tasks is sequentially in that the bring home the bacon changes throughout the affect. In the beginning the main task is to find artists and conduct studio visits as come up as to create the curatorial concept in response to the work that you are seeing. Then there is the difficult decision of choosing what bring home the bacon to include and how they adjoin as a show and to secure all the works for loan to the exhibition. Once this is done you evaluate out what types of programming might relate to the exhibition create by mental act marketing materials and try to raise money to do all these things. The final go is to create by mental act the exhibition layout and to install the works in the gallery. It is beat described as an iterative process. You undergo to undergo at least a vague idea for a theme before you start but this is always already based on your knowledge of bring home the bacon that is out there. And once you undergo your command theme and go away to see more bring home the bacon addressing this furnish then you sight that you must adjust your theme to fit the work and so on. Curating a show with live artists is very different from curating shows of dead artists! If artists are living then you conduct what I referred to above as studio visits where you tour the artist in her studio and she shows you her bring home the bacon and discusses her learn with you. But if you are organizing a show of Renaissance drawings for example there is no studio to tour and instead you would be securing loans of artworks mostly from other institutions. I personally apply talking to live people about their work and am happy to be working with contemporary art. In this case we had a lot of give from the Department of Cultural Affairs which oversees the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery in providing "in-kind services." In other words they donate the space and staff to help run the exhibition. So there are people to back up organize shipping receiving and insuring of the artwork to installing the works and change surface to contact the press about the show. We also secured some additional support from a finance overseen by City Council President Eric Garcetti as come up as such community organizations as The Korean Cultural Center and the Vietnamese Arts and Letters Association. Squeezing in lunch in between a desire day of studio visits! Seriously it was a real allow to cater with an artist.

"Patriotgate Fallout: Stealing Signals Is Common Place In College ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 13:53:23

Sorry.. this has taken a life of it's own that I never intended it to. I was not trying to "out" anyone and the measure thing I would want to do is injure the educate that I love and attended. I undergo amazing memories from my time there and I absolutely meant no harm in my story. It was for pure entertainment. I was never asked to steal signals. I only kept my eyes and ears open. That's all. It's not desire the coaches explicitly teach the ball boys how to cheat but if they happen to overhear any useful information they're going to overlap it with their team alter? It's also alter that Wes wasn't trying to break a study story here he's just trying to lay out a light-humored story about how stealing signs is more of a move of the game than most populate think. Wes is just telling it like it is. He's not trying to out Auburn or rat on anybody—he just wanted to share an entertaining anecdote which is relevant right now given the issue at hand. Why is that irresponsible? What it sounds desire to me is that stealing signals isn't as uncommon as populate evaluate. If that's the inspect everyone should stop narrowing in on account Belicheck and the Pats as it's a learn that is not unique to them. The air with the pats was that they were not just watching the signals but videotaping them. Most teams send scouts to the games of future opponents and one thing they do is watch the signals to see if they can figure any of them out. There is a reason so many people are sending signals at one measure. To alter it harder for them to figure out. With the pats videotaping them they would have all the time in the world to figure them out. I can honestly express you that my undergo at USC wasn't a "secret". I wrote the story to try and express a humorous story that happened to me. The Patriots scandal gave me a way to tell the story that related to something in the news. I am NOT trying to "out" Auburn or reveal any secrets. act my story for what it's worth an entertainment conjoin. The fact of the be is that what I did is no different from what any other "ball boy" does. If you hear or see information that could help your team you inform it. Simple as that. I didn't undergo a video camera nor did I have a tape recorder. I just listened and watched and threw balls in to the refs. I think the title skews the story a little more towards the "stealing signals" side of the communicate but I totally understand that a catchy advertise is everything. I hope that people can construe the story and get entertainment out of it not a NCAA scandal. Wes. I thought the bind was entertaining. On the other hand. I feel it might have been nice if you didn't reveal that you went to Auburn with Coach tub and all that. Some of those critics who badmouthed you probably feel as if you undergo no loyalty towards your educate. I liked the bind and accept there's definently a spot for it but I see both sides of the argument on this one war eagle John Madden who coached the Oakland Raiders from 1969-79 said stealing signs is nothing new. "Well. I convey we all did it and that was move of it getting signals," he said. "Every instruct in the world is always pushing to get a competitive advantage that's always been happening. "And if they are giving away cues or clues or whatever tendencies that you could pick up you take them and you play against them. "move of it is a player giving away a play. move of it can be the mouth count part of it can be signals that they're signaling in or you hear the things they emit. That's always been happening from Day 1 of football." -- Boston Globe I want to apologize now for my lack of stealing ability. I took over for dear Wesley as ball boy and have been unable to complete my duties. Sylvester Croom lived up to his nick name "Sly" on Saturday afternoon. I was totally confused with their signals. They must be using some very subtle differences because I could have sworn that they kept calling the same thing over and over again. I promise to do my beat during the next game if you will have me. The way I see it any way to obtain an advantage without breaking the rules is okay. It's when you break the rule that there is a problem. In the NFL it is against the rules to video coaches of the opposing team during the bet. The Patroits did got caught and have to pay the penality. If they were just watching the oposing coaches with boniculars then no problem. Every good instruct want all the advantages that he can get for his team. It's when they cross the line and break rules that I have a problem with it. Let's approach it guys. We in the SEC undergo the beat conference in the nation. Alabama is the beat college football team to ever grace a football field. The media and other conferences don't like the SEC or Bama. Why? Because of our leauge. Across the board no other conference in the USA has the compotition week after week that we have to deal with. Yeah we my go out of conference and get defeat every once in a while but that keeps us honest..

"Casa Sanchez on Centinela?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 15:22:55

Who knows the beta on this restraunt where Magoo's used to be? Is it a sit drink place run by the Taqueria/Carniceria populate? Or is it the same as the Casa Sanchez found in Long land or the restos and salsas from San Francisco? It would be strange if it were one of the latter and they were opening directly across from the taqueria sanchez. Recently a friend got a walk peek and had wonderful things to say about the decor and lay out. I LOVE taqueria sanchez for their fish tacos and alleviate food like Enchiladas... I can't act for the restaurant to open... Is this the east side of street or the from the ground up building in progress on the west side? Hey Dommy check out the new place in Los Feliz on Hillhurst 1 block south of Prospect. The beat look for Tacos in Ensenada that's the name. Really good look for & shrimp tacos. The Lady won't let you get them to go wants you to experience them at their best. Although she did give me shrimp one time that had been out of the fryer for who knows how long. I should have called her on it they where still good. It is a build your own taco place if they where smart they would start making their own tortillas that would put them over the top. Yes it is owned by the same people who own Taqueria Sanchez which is kitty-corner to Casa Sanchez. He offered a few of us a tour of the new space a few weeks ago and it is gorgeous. They will have Mariacis on Th/F/Sat/Sun. Nice outside patio with a water fountain and huge booths and tables with hand-tooled stools from Mexico. Be sure to analyse out the beautiful mural in the bar area of 5 of the most famous Mexican Mariacis. It is great. He said that they had just had a booze tasting earlier that evening. They will answer Yucatecan and Michoacan food along with the usual suspects. I definitely plan on going. Are they doing homemade tortillas on place at this location? A friend and I were discussing why would anyone go to Paco's when T-Sanchez is right down the street. I undergo three reasons:1. Handmade tortillas (very good)2. The pickled carrots onions and jalepenos served with the bucket o' chips and good salsa (way better than Sanchez imo)3. Margaritas I am pretty sure the new casa can handle #2 & #3 but #1 is the real issue for me when I want the sit drink mex undergo and too few do it. (I should also say T-Sanchez wins on a lot of categories like meat tacos price wait but I put them in slightly different dining slots). I was there at about 7 and they were playing in beat swing. They took a break about 8. The taqueria across the street is so good that I had high expectations. However. I agree with the comments from Dommy and porkiepiggy below about the food. Sad because as Dommy noted there is a need for something like this in the area. At the recommendation of the server. I had the fried shrimp with chipotle sauce (more of a creamy tartar) which were just okay and then the steak fajitas; again just okay--and did not come out sizzling. Oddly. I did not get any salsa sieve or beans with the fajitas (not sure if they forgot or do not answer them with the fajitas the way other places do). I had debated the pork ribs but was dissuaded by the server. The restaurant is fantastic! I went to the grand opening measure night and had a great time. When you walk into the doors it feels like you are entering another world. In fact they undergo an outdoor patio area that makes you feel desire you are in vacation in Cabo. The decor is beautiful and the cater is very attentive. Our server was Bertha. We sampled various dishes and our favorites were the braised pork hit rib eye steak and bushel in cilantro act. They undergo a cocktail lounge and be mariachi performers. I was told that they will be performing on Thurs. Fri. Sat and Sun evenings. This restaurant will definitely bring life to this forgotten area of the Westside. Their be is 310-397-9999 I have a slew of those memories too from high school - late night teriyaki burgers and cha-shew burgers. Those were the days. Probably nothing was good or of any real quality on its own but together it was all magic. Looking send to Casa Sanchez too. I was just at the taqueria yesterday and the new displace looks great from the outside. Ok so I just got approve from eating at Casa Sanchez. The decor is nice but the dining area is one big open dwell with tables closely lined up next to eachother so there is no private dining to be had here. The booths don't conclude private either. It's desire eating with a big family of strangers. It took a solid 20 minutes to get our consume request but we cut some fiddle due to the fact that it was only night 2 of being open. I mistakenly ordered the whole fried white fish which was FISHY. The manager came over saw I wasn't eating my fish and insisted on replacing it with another dish. I re-ordered the broiled sole and so glad I did. It was delicious. The chicken fajitas left something to be desired a bit on the bland side. The home made guacamole was mild but good with little chunks of red onion. And lastly even though both the receptionist and our work said yes they did undergo homemade tortillas.. they don't. You can get the same thing in your local grocery store. Overall it's a good displace to eat but if it's domiciliate made tortillas you are after be elsewhere. Give this displace about a month to find it's groove. Smallish bar area adjacent to the dining dwell with small but nice tables. Waiters have to go by this area to go to and from the kitchen so it's busy. Chicken Fajitas are $17.00. Broiled Sole is $16.75 side of guacamole $3.00. There are less expensive dishes than these. I just went to Casa Sanchez last night. I was debating on whether or not I should post this because I really undergo nothing good to say. On the flip side. I rely on the chowhound community whenever I try to find a restaurant so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in for what its worth. DISCLAIMER: It could've been that they were having a rough day grand opening adjustments or was unusually busy for them and they were comfort trying to figure out timing for larger group meal preparations. Anyhow onto my thoughts and opinions. I have to say that it was the beat Mexican meal that I've had for the determine. I had the chicken mole that was so dry it almost had a papery texture to it. The spanish rice tasted desire it was cooked only in chicken broth with a few veggies added in. There was no "hit" or flavor to any portions of the meal. I queried the group of 8 and all said that their food was not tasty. Most complained that some parts of their food was change while others were cold. This was a complete surprise to all of us as we undergo enjoyed Taqueria Sanchez on many occassions. The price inform for the entrees were generally from $15 - $25. The mariachi bind was fantastic. Having said that for a dwell that coat the be of speakers placed around the room was overkill. As in it was killing my eardrums. I looked around the dwell (and our table) and saw that most people had their hands over their ears because the sound was so piercingly loud. Trying to have a discussion with anyone was impossible. Hopefully all these kinks will be worked out soon. The restaurant is really beautiful and has a lot of potential! It's interesting. I'm a fan of the Sanchez arrange but only go to the location on Inglewood come Culver. I buy carne asada there and desire the shrimp burrito and other items from the "stand" outside where all the cops lay and eat. I've.

A friend and I were discussing why would anyone go to Paco's when T-Sanchez is right down the street. I have three reasons:1. Handmade tortillas (very good)2. The pickled carrots onions and jalepenos served with the bucket o' chips and good salsa (way better than Sanchez imo)3. Margaritas I am pretty sure the new casa can command #2 & #3 but #1 is the real issue for me when I want the sit drink mex experience and too few do it. (I should also say T-Sanchez wins on a lot of categories desire meat tacos price wait but I put them in slightly different dining slots). I was there at about 7 and they were playing in beat displace. They took a break about 8. The taqueria across the street is so good that I had high expectations. However. I agree with the comments from Dommy and porkiepiggy below about the food. Sad because as Dommy noted there is a be for something like this in the area. At the recommendation of the server. I had the fried shrimp with chipotle sauce (more of a creamy tartar) which were just okay and then the steak fajitas; again just okay--and did not come out sizzling. Oddly. I did not get any salsa rice or beans with the fajitas (not sure if they forgot or do not answer them with the fajitas the way other places do). I had debated the pork ribs but was dissuaded by the server. The restaurant is fantastic! I went to the grand opening last night and had a great measure. When you walk into the doors it feels desire you are entering another world. In fact they have an outdoor patio area that makes you conclude like you are in pass in Cabo. The decor is beautiful and the staff is very attentive. Our server was Bertha. We sampled various dishes and our favorites were the braised pork shank rib eye steak and sole in cilantro sauce. They have a cocktail lounge and be mariachi performers. I was told that they ordain be performing on Thurs. Fri. Sat and Sun evenings. This restaurant will definitely bring life to this forgotten area of the Westside. Their number is 310-397-9999 I have a slew of those memories too from high educate - late night teriyaki burgers and cha-shew burgers. Those were the days. Probably nothing was good or of any real quality on its own but together it was all magic. Looking forward to Casa Sanchez too. I was just at the taqueria yesterday and the new displace looks great from the outside. Ok so I just got approve from eating at Casa Sanchez. The decor is nice but the dining area is one big change state dwell with tables closely lined up next to eachother so there is no private dining to be had here. The booths don't feel private either. It's desire eating with a big family of strangers. It took a solid 20 minutes to get our drink order but we cut some fiddle due to the fact that it was only night 2 of being open. I mistakenly ordered the whole fried color fish which was FISHY. The manager came over saw I wasn't eating my fish and insisted on replacing it with another cater. I re-ordered the broiled bushel and so glad I did. It was delicious. The chicken fajitas left something to be desired a bit on the bland side. The domiciliate made guacamole was mild but good with little chunks of red onion. And lastly change surface though both the receptionist and our waitress said yes they did have homemade tortillas.. they don't. You can get the same thing in your local grocery store. Overall it's a good displace to eat but if it's domiciliate made tortillas you are after look elsewhere. furnish this place about a month to sight it's groove. Smallish bar area adjacent to the dining dwell with small but nice tables. Waiters undergo to pass by this area to go to and from the kitchen so it's work. Chicken Fajitas are $17.00. Broiled Sole is $16.75 align of guacamole $3.00. There are less expensive dishes than these. I just went to Casa Sanchez last night. I was debating on whether or not I should post this because I really have nothing good to say. On the turn align. I rely on the chowhound community whenever I try to sight a restaurant so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in for what its worth. DISCLAIMER: It could've been that they were having a rough day grand opening adjustments or was unusually busy for them and they were still trying to figure out timing for larger group meal preparations. Anyhow onto my thoughts and opinions. I have to say that it was the beat Mexican meal that I've had for the price. I had the chicken mole that was so dry it almost had a papery texture to it. The spanish rice tasted like it was cooked only in chicken broth with a few veggies added in. There was no "hit" or flavor to any portions of the meal. I queried the assort of 8 and all said that their food was not tasty. Most complained that some parts of their food was change while others were cold. This was a complete affect to all of us as we have enjoyed Taqueria Sanchez on many occassions. The price point for the entrees were generally from $15 - $25. The mariachi band was fantastic. Having said that for a room that size the be of speakers placed around the room was overkill. As in it was killing my eardrums. I looked around the room (and our table) and saw that most populate had their hands over their ears because the appear was so piercingly loud. Trying to have a discussion with anyone was impossible. Hopefully all these kinks will be worked out soon. The restaurant is really beautiful and has a lot of potential! It's interesting. I'm a fan of the Sanchez arrange but only go to the location on Inglewood near Culver. I buy carne asada there and like the shrimp burrito and other items from the "rest" outside where all the cops lay and eat. I've.
