"Blogging the Mitchell Report: Part 4 ... I'm DONE." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:32:32

I'm done reading the Mitchell Report. I didn't finish it and I never will and I'm not going to post the rest of the info here. Why? Because it's all a huge waste of time. For one exactly what I said would happen ended up happening. ESPN ran a full list of "named names" on their ticker with no explanations grouping in Brian Roberts with guys like Paul Lo Duca and David Segui which is absolutely ridiculous. Roberts is only in there because Larry Bigbie said that Roberts told him he did it. Not quite the same as having scans of signed checks or sworn testimony to federal investigators. Meanwhile it seems Segui and Lo Duca were the "hook up" everywhere they went. But more than anything at some point while reading the report I stopped feeling angry or even disappointed in the players whose names I was seeing. I just felt bad for them. At first I couldn't really figure out why but then it hit me. Out of THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of players who played during the "steroid era," all of 62 names were listed. What portion of one percent of the players who are or were actually juicing do you suppose that represents?I used to really hate the thought that guys I liked and rooted for might be on performance enhancers. But if the report did anything it was make me realize once and for all that this is not just a few players. It's not a couple guys or a couple teams or a couple guys on each team. And it sure as hell is not just 62 players over the last 15 to 20 years. The biggest thing I took away from the report is that as much as the media plays up the outrage it's not like these guys were running around in their little steroid cliques shooting up in dark alleys so no one would see. It was out in the open. It was joked about in the clubhouse. If I were named in the report. I'd be the first one demanding the best testing available. I'd be screaming for the implementation of daily piss tests for everyone in the league because there's no way I'd let people go on assuming that I'm part of some tiny portion of the baseball playing world that is so unscrupulous as to take steroids. I'd be saying. "You've got 60 names? Great. Now let's get 1,000 so you can really start to see."I'm done being outraged about specific players. I'm done listening to other people's outrage about Mr. ABC and Mr. XYZ and how "now there's proof!" Because the names in the Mitchell Report are meaningless. The fans will relish this opportunity to shun the players that have been named. You'll say. "Miguel Tejada's a dirty cheater! I KNEW Roger Clemens was a jerk! Brian Roberts and his squeaky clean image are DONE FOR," and then boo them and make signs and yell "CHEATER" every time they visit your team's ballpark. But it's stupid. Because the names listed are nothing more than a few fish hooked in an ocean of performance enhancing drug users and you're blind if you think there aren't at least four or five on your favorite team. Even if none of the names made it into the Report or onto ESPN's ticker. That's the real lesson from the Mitchell Report.

"Saturday Quick Hits: While We Are Waiting..." posted by ~Ray

Welcome to Michigan Sports Center. This communicate is dedicated to sports going on at the University of Michigan as you probably can tell by the label. I've been going to Michigan football games regularly since I was 7 years old and have been a fan ever since. Many members of my family are alumni of Michigan and one day I hopefully ordain be included in that group. In fact. I'm planning on enrolling as a freshman in the fall of 2008. analyse approve daily for updates on all Michigan sports and thanks for reading and Go color! Quickly updating everyone on the Rich Rodriguez to Michigan rumors... It looks desire we should find out if Michigan has a new instruct by the end of today. Rodriguez apparently has a press conference shortly after 10:00 a m. ET this morning in order to discuss the Fiesta Bowl (bowl game WVU is in) but I'm sure that will hardly be discussed. The press conference was scheduled before any of yesterday's events took place so it's not like this is directly related to all the rumors. At the same measure though you know that the first and probably almost every question ordain be in regards to the Michigan job so this should be interesting. My act on the situation is that I'd like to be optimistic on how this scenario with Rodriguez will play out but my hopes have been crushed so many times already with this coaching examine that I'm preparing for things to fall through. Greg Schiano reportedly almost did evaluate an offer to take the Michigan job before having a change of heart after he woke up so anything could happen. Heck change surface if Rodriguez does change state the new instruct. I won't relax until he is talking at the touch conference. Moving on to some other coaching search news that could end up being irrelevant depending on what happens today. Michigan has been rumored to be looking all around the country lately. Some of the names being thrown out there are USC offensive coordinator. Oakland Raiders instruct Lane Kiffin and Connecticut instruct. Again these rumors could mean nothing if Rodriguez is hired but it is something to think about if the coaching search doesn't end this weekend. Via the two announcers for the Capital One Bowl are going to be Mike Patrick and Todd Blackledge. I figured it would undergo been the Nessler. Griese. Maguire crew but I'm book with Patrick and Blackledge. They're a solid team and Patrick is pretty entertaining at times. The first domiciliate game for Michigan football could be played on "Bo Schembechler Day" if a is. I don't think Michigan express fans would be too pleased with having "Bo Schembechler Day" be in place for the entire state but then again they have a lot of holidays desire this that go unnoticed more times than not. (HT: SN) University of Michigan assistant football instruct Andy Moeller was arrested early Saturday evening at the scene of a two-vehicle accident and has been charged with refusing to submit to a preliminary breath test. Ann Arbor guard Lt. Angella Abrams said Thursday the clutch came after guard responded to a crash come the intersection of kill educate and Ellsworth roads at about 7 p m. guard arrested Moeller on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated according to Abrams. After Moeller refused a breathalyzer evaluate police asked for and received a warrant to undergo his blood drawn a procedure that took place at the University of Michigan Medical bear on she said. Moeller probably wouldn't have been retained by the new head anyways unless English or Hoke got the job so I don't evaluate this will alter his future with Michigan very much. Laval Lucas-Perry is going to to discuss the possibility of transferring to Michigan. As long as the meeting goes come up. I would evaluate Lucas-Perry to end on Michigan pretty quickly. Alex Legion ordain probably not end up at Michigan since it appears Beilein has no interest in adding him to the team. Legion has on the delay right now and Eric Lacy thinks he ordain end up at Illinois. Appalachian express over Delaware. It's pretty ironic that they defeated Delaware to win the call since Delaware's helmets are the same as Michigan's meaning ASU started and ended with wins over teams with a winged helmet. As much as I dislike to say it if Michigan played Appalachian State again right now. I would think it would be very change state and maybe even would go in ASU's advance as QB Armanti Edwards really is playing great alter now. God that is just depressing to evaluate that way. One positive of hiring Rich Rodriguez is that he would know how to argue the move since that's the type of offense he runs. Man it would be nice to forbid a mobile QB for a dress. I evaluate Rich Rodriguez would be a great hire for Michigan. Although he would be leaving a very good WVU team next year. (Assuming White & Slaton return) Rodriguez and his spread offense would be a great change for Michigan. Not sure if Mallett would be the guy if Rodriguez ends up in Ann Arbor. "Clemens Juiced Up? Who Cares!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:45:06

As predicted the Mitchell Report was basically a dud.  The information was old. 53 of the 88 players named are already out of the league.  It did more damage than good.  We didn’t be Senator Mitchell to express us that steroids are bad the game has a problem or that the testing policy needs to be strengthened.  It was boring long and drawn out.  In other words it caused irrevocable alter that the game may never acquire from while solving nothing.  They would have been better off hiring Jose Canseco at least his information is frighteningly accurate.  desire everyone else. I’m only interested in one label that was included in the document:  Roger Clemens.  I’m not surprised just intrigued.  In the very first article I wrote for this web site I stated that it wasn’t fair for the public to judge Barry Bonds and allow Clemens to walk under the same circumstances.  The whispers undergo been around his name for years now they might undergo just ended his go as a player and also as an endorser.  At least when attach Fainaru-Wade and Lance Williams accused Bonds they had several sources telling the same story yet many were reluctant to accept it as truth.  change surface though Mitchell’s case is flimsy at best the same damage has been done to Clemens reputation.  The public doesn’t compassionate who said it it was said.  More importantly the opinion was co-signed by a Senator. Because of his stature populate ordain think that it is absolutely. 100% accurate. I’m going to tell you the truth. I believe that the Rocket’s performance is fueled by a premium amalgamate of Deca-Durabolin and HGH but not because Mitchell tells me too.  There are just too many coincidences not to mention the circumstantial and visual bear witness to do by.  Prior to today’s events Clemens was baseball’s big color elephant.  This isn’t the first time that his name has been implicated in the steroid scandal.  Mitchell made a apprise reference to the infamous Jason Grimsley affidavit from measure October in which an anonymous obtain with find to the unedited version leaked the contents of the enter to the LA Times.  In this document Grimsley named Clemens. Miguel Tejada. Jay Gibbons. Brian Roberts and Andy Pettitte as steroid users.  The report also stated that Brian McNamee. Clemens and Pettitte’s former strength and conditioning instruct referred him to source that supplied him with steroids. HGH and amphetamines when all three played in New York in 1999 and 2000 a affirm further support by Mitchell’s findings.  The Orioles’ front office informed their players that they had been implicated in the affidavit and they should consult their lawyers.  This would confirm the claims made by the LA Times and it would also stand to reason that Clemens was warned by MLB officials also.  He responded with controlled aggression in answering questions about the report going so far to threaten Grimsley with a lawsuit if he lost endorsements due to this. The circumstantial bear witness is there multiple accusations the shady trainer who obtained steroids from the biggest steroid dealer. Kirk Radomski post-Victor Conte.  That isn’t what does him in like Bonds the damning evidence is in the numbers. Players aren’t supposed to have their beat years after they are in their forties.  What was odd though is the way his statistics fluctuated from one season to the next.  In the Mitchell inform McNamee details a timeline in which he gave Clemens injections stating that at times he wouldn’t use for a toughen at a time adding further credence to his testimony.  After the 1995 season it looked like Roger’s career was about to be over at the age of 32.  He started the season on the disabled list and pitched in only 140 innings the lowest amount of his career finishing with a 4.18 ERA.  The following season a assure year, he began with an abysmal 4-11 record putting him on pace to finish the season 6-17.  This would undergo cost him greatly on the open market change surface for a guy with 3 Cy Young Awards and an MVP in his back take but something amazing happened.  A lot of people believe that this is when he started dabbling with steroids because of the way he bounced back after three and a half average seasons it’s impossible to know but never-the-less he went on to post a 6-2 record with a 2.09 ERA and 123 stirkeouts over 111.3 innings, After 13 years with the Red Sox. Clemens signed with the color Jays where he would enter the beginning stages of his renaissance.  At 34 years-old Clemens would win his fourth Cy Young award after posting a 2.05 ERA with 292 strikeouts and 68 walks to go along with a 21-7 preserve and a 1.03 beat.  McNamee would not join him in Toronto until the following season but it is possible that Clemens was already using steroids.  The Mitchell inform offers no definitive answers when his suspected use started. “Jose Canseco was playing for the color Jays in 1998.  On or about June 8-10. 1998 the Toronto Blue Jays played an away series with the Florida Marlins.  McNamee attended a lunch party that Canseco hosted at his home in Miami.  McNamee stated that during this luncheon he observed Clemens. Canseco and another person he did not know meeting inside Canseco’s house although McNamee did not personally attend that meeting.  Canseco told members of my investigative staff that he had numerous conversations with Clemens about the benefits of Deca-Durabolin and Winstrol and how to ‘cycle’ and ‘stack’ steroids…Shortly after the Blue Jays returned domiciliate to Toronto. Clemens approached McNamee and for the first measure brought up the subject of using steroids.  Clemens said that he was not able to inject himself and he asked for McNamee’s back up.  Later that summer. Clemens asked McNamee to administer him with Winstrol which Clemens supplied.” His numbers were down slightly from the previous toughen but with a little help from McNamee. Clemens would go on to win his second consecutive Cy Young Award (20-6. 2.65 ERA. 271 K. 88 BB. 1.09 beat).  The following toughen Clemens was dealt to New York.  McNamee would stay in Toronto for another season not joining Clemens with Yankees until the 2000 toughen. Although members of different teams. McNamee continued to bring home the bacon with Clemens during the offseason though this time it was without any substances.  Clemens pitched all of the 1999 toughen alter while going 14-10 with a 4.60 ERA. 163 strikeouts. 90 walks and a 1.46 WHIP.  They continued the same way until about half-way through the 2000 season.  He doesn’t provide an exact date but after an injury plagued June it would be safe to assume that he began using steroids again during his recovery process.  He came back in July to affix a 1.91 ERA his best toughen of the month.  His split stats are below. After this season McNamee was let go from the Yankees.  The unify continued to work together but no more accounts are given on his doping patterns.  Clemens followed up his 2001 season with two subpar ones (13-6. 4.35 ERA. 192 K;  17-9. 3.91. 190) but again bounced approve to win his seventh and last Cy Young allocate in 2004 at age 41 after putting up a 2.98 ERA along with 218 strikeouts a 1.15 WHIP with an 18-4  record.  The following toughen Clemens would post a career best 1.87 ERA over 211 innings. It’s unbelievable for a hitter to have best years in his forties for a pitcher it’s out of this world.  I don’t care who you are it just can’t happen naturally. .

"Thoughts on sport" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 19:42:45

Now see. I'm not procrastinating. Much. However. I was talking with my mate G on the virtues of basketball. He argued having just been to the finals of Eurobasket that FIBA basketball was *much* more fun to watch than NBA basketball. For the uninitiated there *is* a difference - FIBA roll tends to be more team-oriented because of a slightly different set of rules pertaining to defense whereas NBA roll has done away with those rules. I put forward the following hypothesis: American team sports are at a disadvantage because of the relentless demand put on sports in America to give heroes. This is why football (soccer to the barbarians; and I can categorically state that it should be football because a) football got there first and b) your weird people-in-armour-running-into-eachother feature is nothing but a militarized version of rugby whereas 'soccer' has no sensible etymological explanation in any branch of the language that I can evaluate of. You can be very good at running around and kicking that weird round thing - but you can very rarely win a bet by yourself. The individual heroics of the football pitch are kind of lost in the mix as it were. However if we consider the 'American' sports..:'Football' always has Johnny Quarterback and glorified 'impact players' like the linebacker running back or the star wide receiver. Nobody cares much about the DE or the punter or whatnot. Baseball has the one guy with the bat and he (and what he does) becomes the focus of the 'team' be of which are sitting in a hit in the ground chewing the dried-up remains of last year's team if I've understood it correctly;and NBA basketball the care of all starmakers has the compose the rules designed for an easily comprehensible two-man-game on the wing (leaving 3 blokes standing with their sizable fingers up their noses on the other side of the court) the 'illegal defense' rules (in my opinion illegal defense should bear on a) a lawyer b) a handgun or c) both. If b) gets used on a) however it is sometimes condonable) and the 'stars'. If I had a dime for every sports description in America that involved a single player 'taking over'. 'putting the team on his back'. 'leading by example'. 'dominating' or a zillion others of that ilk. I would maybe not be rich but I wouldn't have to mind so much about contract and food. Just sayin'. Opinions on this are welcome. Calling out and for intelligent sports-related sociological commentary especially. Or to blow me a cyberraspberry and tell me to just stay in foreignland then because I hate 'murrrka so much.:P *ducks for cover*That being said. I'm going back to translating High School Musical into Icelandic. What does that schedule feature prominently? Incidentally - a star basketball player. when the copy of HSM comes out gratify let me know how to buy a copy--i've got a friend whom i'd like to give it to sorry I've not been in comprehend yet--i knew what i was getting into when I came over here sure but things are just taking a while and somehow I had thought they'd be easier (I'm not sure why as everything has been par for the course so far). For what it's worth I haven't yet seen any of my few other friends here either. I will be in touch as I'm really looking forward to a nice social pasty-or-drinks visit./B/ Bah :D don't mind about it. First of all. I've been the proverbial legal transfer here for a while so I undergo beat understanding of things taking a leettle bit longer than one would think humanly possible and besides. I have a new social mantra which has served me well:I'm a man. I don't do details. So my good man - you ordain get in touch when it bloody come up suits ye :D at which inform we ordain figure out when it suits us and cater all suited 'n cram. Upshoot is - it's all good. And yes - I'll let ye experience when HSM is good'n done :) Sorry missy - not 'avin'it as they say over here. I am alone bored and I have a walk in my apartment so it is your *duty* as a person who lives on my internet to go to the contend and instruct the scalpel of your incisive wit on the socio-political ramifications of your grow's odd relationship with sports!consider mah authoritae dammit!*cue military music*WHERE is the Kellinator Jones who frequently disembowels America's socalled best and brightest law students?WHERE is the Queen of Snark known and feared by screenwriters and Dick Wolf?WHERE is the Scion of Sniping whose label shall ne'er be mentioned by the religious lobotomized right?Ask not what the internet can do for you! "2-0 Teams" posted by ~Ray

SOCOM U. S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo (PSP™) SOCOM U. S. Navy SEALs Fireteam acclaim 2 (PSP™) SOCOM U. S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault (PS2) So there are 10 2-0 teams. Aside from New England and Indianapolis who would both be 2-0 change surface if they played each other who appears the most threatening? Who doesn't impress you much?I'm actually very concerned about the Texans. They looked *good* in their win against Carolina. They'll be a tough team to go against this year. Cowboys be pretty good as well. Pittsburgh could be very dangerous but I'll act until they play a contender before I get excited about them. Green Bay looks better than I thought they would as come up. Skins could be a dangerous aggroup down the be since they have a lot of improved pieces. Detroit's 2-0 seemed pretty gimme with who they were playing and they should displace to 2-1 after next week's bet.. assuming Philly finds some offense. I'm comfort not sold on San Francisco. They won their domiciliate game and got a big win against St. Louis but desire with Pittsburgh they need to defeat someone of determine before I get excited. And I am concerned about the Broncos. Are they really 2-0?And since they are 2-0 we'll get the Pats and Colts in on this as well:What week will it be when the Pats clinch the AFC East? If the Jets get on the ball and start winning some games. I could see the Patriots needing a couple extra weeks. write me up for week 12. I'm also assuming everyone's still on board for the Colts to win the AFC South but how many games do they win it by? I could comfort see it being 3-4 games as usual but the AFC South is the best division top to bottom so any one of these three teams can defeat the Colts and keep it within 2. The Lions bet against the Vikings wasent really a gimme the bet was settled late in overtime. But i say the Packers(as much as i dislike them) are the biggest threat. Yep the Texans look really good this year. They might move things up in the NFC this year. Cowboys be great. Balitmore will give us a challenege but we will still win. 150)?150:this scrollHeight); overflow: hidden;">Swimming laps around a bottle of Louie The 13th,Jumping off of a mountain into a sea of Codeine. Posted on 2007-10-03 19:41:31

bequeath that card? The seller Ken Simonis (who happens to be an eBay cater Seller with over 3,000 positive feedback) got absolutely hosed in his attempt to sell the separate eBay pulled the auction TWICE because they thought a George Washington separate was incorrectly listed under the sports memorabilia category. The end prove: he got screwed out of a few thousand dollars. According to an : The original 10-day auction was being watched by more than 5,000 registered users and had drawn more than 20,000 unique page views and a high bid of $8,300 before its premature conclusion. The card also attracted quite a substantial mainstream media following. In fact it was a reporter from the New York Times who informed Simonis that his first listing had been deleted. The auction that closed Thursday night [for $7,500] was being watched by 180 people and had received just 3,000 views. Are eBay’s employees brain dead? This was clearly no ordinary auction. Don’t you evaluate you should do a little investigate or gasp possibly even contact the seller of an sell of this stature before pulling the card? I would be livid. Simonis plans on letting eBay experience how he feels: Simonis says he spent no less than eight hours on the phone with eBay’s believe and Safety division and his be manager throughout the ordeal and plans to create verbally a earn to eBay North America president Bill Cobb detailing his struggles. “This entire situation turned into a complete mess,” Simonis says. “I’m pretty decently respected in this hobby and this is a very small conjoin of the business for me. But at the end of the day. I’m frustrated about it. I’m hoping that some of this attention makes eBay make the alter decision for collectors and for the hobby.” P. S. - a ~$10k sell is “small business” for this guy? What does he normally sell?
