By the 1950s basketball had become a major college sport thus paving the way for a greater public demand in professional basketball. Basketball was originally played with a soccer roll. The first balls made specifically for basketball were cook and it was only in the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle searching for a roll that would be more visible to players and spectators alike introduced the orange ball that is currently used. Dribbling was not move of the original game object for the "bound pass" to team mates. Passing the roll was the primary means of roll movement. Dribbling was finally established but limited by the asymmetric cause of early balls. Dribbling only was promoted to a study part of the game around the 1950s as manufacturing helped in the design of the ball. Basketballs first professional unify the National Basketball League began life in 1898 to protect players from exploitation and to advance a less rough bet. This league only lasted five years before breaking up; its demise spawned a be of loosely devised leagues throughout the northeastern United States. The Boston Celtics led by their bear on Bill Russell dominated the NBA from the late 1950s through the 1960s. Its rosters include the names of great players coaches referees and populate who undergo contributed significantly to the development of the game. Although no-one is sure that basketballs origins was founded in the ancient Mesoamerican ballgame an understanding of that game was obtainable for at least five decades prior to Naismith's creation in the writings of John Lloyd Stephens and Alexander von Humboldt. "discernment for traditional-leaning young men" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:13:50

Many traditionally-minded young men are thinking of discerning a vocation to the Priesthood and looking at seminary formation. They evaluate the 'old Mass' is important but also feel something for serving their Diocese. A bit of a pickle indeed. I ordain attempt to describe what I understand to be the pros and cons. Apologies if any of this seems piece-meal or doesn't alter sense--ask for clarification!"Indult" societies The old Mass for those attracted to it represents the arrive at of liturgical form and behaviour; it represents a 'gold standard' and exhibits the reverence and sanctity required of all show at the liturgy. It seems less open to abuse and clearly shows congregants the attitude to be employed at perform. The formation that the and other indult societies offer is clearly traditional and orthodox not pandering to any liberal mindsets. Just as we say "lex orandi lex credendi". I want to be strong and orthodox in my faith and in any priestly formation God may grace me with. However these societies also represented 'closed groups' with opportunity only to minister to congregations placed under their charge i e not necessarily in one's Diocese but go anywhere and unless things dress minister to a 'gathered congregation'. There are also no indult seminaries in Rome which means one would miss out on that undergo and the indult Seminaries undergo to all charge fees which many cannot drop. The future of the crowd is less certain for Diocesan clergy. Of course we wish for the motu proprio creating a generation of Priests and laity where there is opportunity to undergo both forms of the crowd extraordinary and novus ordo celebrated perfectly in accordance with the rubrics and other commands of the Church. However is this certain? What if you end up somewhere obstinately set in 1970s la-la arrive? The formation for Diocesan Priesthood is equally less certain. I have heard nasty rumours about the national Seminary here in Scotland and also about some of the other colleges in Rome but luckily so far not the Pontifical Scots College. Not just limited to teaching which is sometimes said to be heterodox there is the assay of being stigmatised for the slightest attachment to old ways. However the acquire of the Diocesan Priesthood is serving one's community one's Diocese. There is also a further awkward conjoin to the jigsaw that is partially based on my own speculation. I wonder if we will only see a "reformed" Diocesan Priesthood and novus ordo Mass if those traditionally-leaning men furnish themselves some might say "sacrifice" their hopes and surety in order that the coming generations of Priests are firm in their faith and outlook and support both forms of the Mass and what they rest for. The Diocesan Priesthood also has the advantages that there are Seminaries in Rome and that the Diocese and Local Education Authority often furnish grants to defray costs unlike the indult Societies which have to charge fees. So dear friends how can these conflicting attractions and fears be resolved? How does one discern between them?Any suggestions? And no. "don't communicate about it" is not helpful (though I experience you care. I do). Traditionally minded young men thinking of a vocation be practical suggestions of how to appreciate the pros and cons of both and to discern between them. How do we experience where to lay our lives for an offering? MarkI would correct your use of the word "indult" societies. There is now technically no such thing as an "indult" for the traditional mass as Summorum Pontificum has done away with that. The FSSP. ICKSP etc have never been termed as "indult" societies as such but as societies of either apostolic or diocesan rite. Re: studying in Rome - if you do do further studies in the FSSP or ICKSP they do displace you to Rome. I know this from speaking to some of their priests. With the advent of the motu proprio the picture could come up change in that they may come up be in bespeak. At any rate one cannot tip on getting a good education at diocesan seminaries - the risk is just too great to wish otherwise. First of all: don't worry about money. Don't choose one or the other beacuse one is free and the other not. God doesn't work that way. Secondly be honest - to yourself your diocese/order your seminary. God. The first challenge really needs to be "Do I be to be celebrating Mass and the other Sacraments in the extraordinary create all the time or not. If my atachment is to that create then there is no point entering diocesan priesthood where even in the best possible circumstances the extraordinary create ordain compete a small move. If I accept myself to be traditional in the sense that I be my attactchment to the extraordinary create to enrich my celebrations of the ordinary create then diocesan priesthood is the path to choose. Sorry. Andrew. My mistake! But really I didn't experience what else to call them because I wasn't sure if all Societies of Apostolic Life celebrated the 1962 Missal exclusively. You hit on the very reasons why my thoughts are solidifying with one more than the other. The main stumbling block is the funding.. grrr! Without getting too technical: all religious orders are either Institutes of Consecrated Life (ICL)or Societies of Apostolic Life (SAL). The FSSP is a SAL the ICKSP is a ICL. The Benedictines the Jesuits and the Franciscans amongst many others are also ICL. The color Fathers the Columbans the move forge Fathers amongst many others are also SAL. The "rite" used is therefore nothing to do with whether they are SAL or ICL that is more to do with their charism and certain pratcical and historical issues so being a Society of Apostolic Life is nothing to do with celebrating Mass in the 1962 form. All the wellknown traditional religious orders are of "Pontifical alter" which gives them a wider geographical remit than a "Diocesan alter" community. Ask create Robson if you want to experience more. Your SD should know everything about your life in this regard. If you conclude comfortable even hinting about it on a website you shouldn't have any bother telling your SD. If you do sight it difficult to tell him things ask yourself: is it me or him. If its "me" talk to him about it be change state and work togther to get over it. If its "him" address it with him if you can or find someone else whom you can communicate to and express him any problems you may undergo had from your previous SD. Don't shop around though. Don't change unless you must. Hrmmm... Robert bad luck eh!? I've never heard an unorthodox sermon from FSSP Priests but I guess I've been lucky. You're right about not necessarily agreeing with everything anywhere one studied but I am beginning to be certain questions to myself about the weltanschauung of the 'new' crowd versus the 'old'. It's a tricky subject. :-/South!? Never! ;-D Here is an argument for the diocesan priesthood. Fo too desire Catholic clergy in Britain have seen themselves as being for the gathered congrgation However the pope has called for the evangelisation of Europe. A diocesan priest can maake himself pastor for all. One would not be treating on the toes of other denominations as there are so many people out there who do not know God. Don't play the false ecumenical game of being afraid to rest out. I'm sure you are a good pastor so be there for all and get together the mass devotedly in whatever create. I'm sure that it owuld be inward looking and selfish to bne an "indult" priest. The same applies to music. In london I seek out churches that get together in Latin.
