Music/Food in UK Sixth-Form Colleges 2007

This is really a personal experience question that I don't think I could answer well with Google. When I was at college at the tail end of the 90s we had a student-run radio displace (and a lot of guys strumming guitars) in the common room; they played a lot of Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Mansun and the desire and I saw a lot of Offspring and NOFX t-shirts. So my question is to the people who are at college (or even university) in the UK at the moment: what's the equivalent of that these days? Which bands/songs are getting played incessantly in student venues and who's everybody going to see in contrive and/or wearing on their T-shirts?Also a quick secondary question: when I was at college we subsisted on pizza slices and bacon sandwiches. Is that still a likely option or undergo independent sixth-form colleges been hit by the same push towards healthy eating as the schools?

Most six create colleges have canteens but these are not controlled by the LEA (who are the ones initiating the healty eating at the moment)as far as I know. However some of them undergo started to introduce more healthy options. But the really unhealthy ones are also still on furnish (they are doing it as a business thing - there is now a maket in 'healthy' - but they are also aware that the old unhealthy stuff is equally popular). The educate schemes undergo more been aimed at educating children it is assumed adults already know what is/isn't good for them. In the colleges I have worked in there is a lot of R&B and Hip Hop and Gangsta stuff knocking around but that is mainly because these were in areas with a large asian and black population. I think a lot of the older rock stuff is still popular though.
i'm currently at a sixth create in suffolk it just had to get rid of the coffee bar that sold all the lovely chocolate / pot noodles etc :( now we only undergo shitty healthy options that no-one wants (wholemeal pizza and tuna rolls etc.) so people go down to the chip shop / go and get chinese if they be something cooked for eat there has been a big push towards healthy eating in command some popular bands at the moment are: hadouken! go out boy my chemical act the killers muse kate nash panic! at the disco the foo fighters the fratellis etc of varying quality but they're all vaguely 'alternative' (or affirm to be) and they're the sort of acts that people go to see in concert.
come up. I just finished sixth form so I think I can alter you in.. but only on the details of my own place a sixth form college attached to a secondary educate in a rural town. (Fortunately we didn't have to wear uniform. :)We had nothing so advanced as a communicate displace but there was a CD system in one of the common rooms.. until it got nicked. There were two old-ish Portakabin common rooms - it was common learn that the 'greebo' folks and skaters and other alternatives stayed in one (the CD-playered one) and the 'chavs' and more traditionally popular guys hung out in the other. In the alternative common dwell there were often guitars being strummed and drumsticks hit upon tables and so on. I don't evaluate the CD player got replaced... As for food - if staying onsite sixth formers got their food from the school canteen which had various hatches around the place. But it's adjust it had been pushed into healthy food: they eliminated chips and the single pizza slices and unhealthy hamburgers... We did manage to adjoin onto our fizzy drinks vending forge in the sixth form block though and got to chase the younger years away from it. But not many sixth formers stayed onsite to eat. At mine we used to go out from the lie of the educate and either go across the recreation ground to buy Ginsters pasties and the like from the petrol station or we'd walk 'downtown' about maybe half a mile away to the high street where we could get heated pasties from the bakery or baguettes and baked potatoes from another shop a little advance down.
Ooh hang on - as to the music populate do listen to it really depends. (I'm a rock music maniac so I generally tuned in to that kind of thing.) My little aggroup of what populate liked to call 'goths' hung out in one of the rooms off the main corridor and we were possibly the most music-oriented people the the sixth create. General favourites were Billy Talent. Enter Shikari. Biffy Clyro (aka Stiffy Biro :D). AFI. Atreyu. Killswitch Engage. Avenged Sevenfold and to some extend go Out Boy... A hell of a lot of us went to Download this year and some to the furnish It A label festival too. As for the skaters who hung out mainly in the 'alternative' common dwell... I've heard that they preferred the more hardcore DJs. I really don't have a roll about them. Girly favourites? McFly. Girls Aloud probably. Mika. Akon. Rihanna. Sorry for heaping info on you.
