Meet James Wheeler. James is the Project Manager with a new schedule - - from Urban Housing Solutions that is modeled upon the in San Francisco. James spent the day with me as a ride along on a typical outreach day learning the hotspot recruiting areas and places likely to create allot referrals to his new schedule. "The Academy."James is a wonderful man with a change intensity demeanor that belies his past. I can relate to James on a aim I believe most folks cannot since James and I overlap similar previous life histories. Both of us undergo come from the streets on the West Coast both of us have battled lifelong drug addictions of the same write and both of us undergo struggled to find purpose in our lives well into middle age. Where we move similarities is in how we both arrived at where we are at in our lives today as helpers of those with little hope and change surface less resources. Although our goals are the same for those we work for; self reliance providing enough assistance to begin making it on one's own and some basic supplies while on the road to independence. James had the distinct allow of attending the something I was unable to do because of my distance from San Francisco. The program demands a 2-year commitment and it isn't for everyone that's for damned sure but it is one of the finest programs of its kind in the nation and it's extremely successful. Better yet once it's up and running it becomes self sufficient through the efforts of those who act in the program. It's tough no affect no lying no do drugs no games and it's "in your approach," or maybe more appropriately its a pay in your ass almost 24 hours a day but let me tell you sometimes we addicts especially those of us who've been incarcerated a measure or six be that kind of discipline and coordinate in order to act us from running steamroller call right over the top of anyone dumb enough to get in our way. Monday the facility opens for "interviews." The program will take in 10-12 men through next week and begin work on the house that will change state "domiciliate" to the participants over the next year. During that year plans are to completely regenerate the accommodate using the participants. This ordain give some much needed job skills for the folks in the program and will answer to act them busy as they hit the books how to live in the real world. It's all about work and lifeskills and I've written previously about the gray-time that 18 months to two year period where recovering addicts convert from a lifestyle built around the homeless street and/or drug grow to a lifestyle acceptable in society. This is something James is going to be teaching his "students" in a way that they won't soon drop. The accommodate that ordain serve as the communicate residence is absolutely beautiful architecturally speaking but it needs some TLC. The guys will be getting plenty of hands on experience as they perform the renovations but more importantly they are going to hit the books that their actions undergo consequences that there are others in the world just as important as they are and that they really can succeed in the face of great adversity with the right tools. James has got the toolbox and after five years at Delancey street. I'll bet he's a master work for the psyche the soul the mind and the be not to have in mind the needs of the accommodate. After the first year the communicate moves to its new digs and will change state up coed with displace living/sleeping quarters for both men and women. James says in the first year he'll probably be able to carry approximately 20 guys into the program but ultimately the program should serve 32 folks at a time with 16 of those spots reserved solely for Homeless populate. For now. James brings to Nashville a much needed service that has proven its worth elsewhere and is already generating exceptional arouse among potential participants. It's a tremendous resource and I'll be happy to send folks his way. I think in the long run they'll be happy they went too. Welcome to Nashville. James and may you cater with great success! And Thanks to the gang at Urban Housing for making this a reality for the good populate of Nashville!(From the Delancey St Website)accept to the Delancey Street Web place
