Posted on 2007-12-15 14:41:12

In a affix titled “Please remember that Real Estate is LOCAL” China idle Crowell a real estate agent from the Madison Wisconsin area pointed out a New York Times bind that I missed. I missed the article in “The Nation” because it failed to have in mind Columbus Ohio among the college towns. OK Columbus is a bit big to call a college town but Coldwell Banker referred to Columbus as a college town measure year. OSU is super sized… maybe that makes Columbus a super sized college town…Or just Columbus coat as the 15th largest US city. Of cover Columbus Ohio would not be mentioned in this New York Times article was about small cities: Bruce Katz with the Brookings Institution (Katz loomed large in the recent Columbus send bind about Ohio’s big cities….) is quoted in the New York Times article: “Where subprimes are turning up is in hot markets but also in places like Cleveland and Detroit,” Mr. Katz said. “College towns are more stable places in some respects. If you make between $75,000 and $125,000 in these places you can get into a pretty decent home and still have very reasonable ratios.” In one of the audio comments in the Columbus Dispatch series Katz talked about the Ohio Brain Drain and mentioned Madison Wisconsin as a hot place for young educated people. He said Ohio’s cities are losing young educated populate to cities in the southwest and southeast US and then mentioned Chicago. Minneapolis and Madison. according to Forbes com and Moody’s Economy com I think that chew over / article looked at bigger cities so you won’t see the Madison. State College PA. Iowa City size cities on that enumerate. How expensive is Columbus in comparison to the small cities that the New York Times wrote about… this is measure year. 2006 info from the Coldwell Banker delay bind if you be to see how we compared to other college towns like Ann Arbor MI. Evanston IL use the link above to Discover Columbus: “Columbus. Ohio home to roll Series Championship leader Ohio express University was be 62 on the affordability ranking at $251,364 approximately $108,000 less than the national average of $359,779 for the 119 studied college markets. That is China idle Crowells headline on her post Sandi that’s why it’s in quotation marks. There’s a discussion in the comments of how horrible spammy and do by that evince is on the Zillow blog China posted AND on ActiveRain (members only) with Zillow populate defending the bubbleheads comments.

"University joins plan to unify Ohio colleges' goals" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 14:30:08

The first Faculty Senate meeting of the year took place yesterday and dealt with an issue many colleges are facing across the state. This year. Ohio has united its 13 public universities and 24 community colleges including BGSU under the University System of Ohio which will fall in higher education institutions by focusing on common goals while still maintaining their own identities. All colleges including the University now must inform to a chancellor - currently Eric Fingerhut - who will meet with the presidents of all the universities and colleges to address a 10-year plan for that institution. In addition. Fingerhut ordain be making decisions pertaining to tuition rates and other fees. University President Sidney Ribeau addressed faculty and staff about the new University System of Ohio at yesterday's Faculty Senate meeting. "We are now under the University System of Ohio," he said. "We have been changed.. and no one really knows what that [the University System of Ohio] means. It is in fact different."The major change that has occurred under the University System of Ohio is that tuition increase is not decided by individual institutions but by Fingerhut and Gov. Ted Strickland. Currently because the University's tuition rate was fixed at 0 percent this year. BGSU has had a $3 million shortfall in the calculate. By the end of the year the University has to break even and there is no "roll over" onto next year's budget. The University had a 0 percent increase in tuition despite the fact that tuition makes up 70 percent of the budget. While there was a 5 percent increase from the express the state only makes up 30 percent of the University's budget."So if you do the math you get a 5 percent increase on 30 percent and a 0 percent increase on 70 percent and that is move of the problem," he said. Not only has the 0 percent increase on fees helped to fuel the budget crisis but the University also had to reduce its institutional financial aid for this educate year because they exceeded last year's budget and needed to cap this year's calculate to compensate. Also this year there was a 4 percent increase in mandatory be which deals with salary and personnel costs of faculty and staff.

"OH-02 Schmidt's Plagiarism: A House Code Of Conduct Violation?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:14:18

CINCINNATI (TDB) -- The Bellwether has already discovered Republican U. S. Rep. Jean Schmidt much of the material for her Sept. 4 newsletter topic from an Ohio Highway Patrol superintendent's column written in 2005. Her claim of authorship raises an interesting challenge about ethics and conduct. Should a congresswoman receive a pass for the lack of integrity that would get an Ohio college kid punished or flunked or maybe even kicked out of educate? Or should the accommodate Ethics Committee move to take action that could result in criticise or worse? On campuses and schools -- after all her column was about school buses -- plagiarism is taken seriously. Schmidt is a have of the University of Cincinnati. The school's code defines plagiarism as: "Submitting another's published or unpublished work in whole in part or in paraphrase as one's own without fully and properly crediting the author with footnotes citations or bibliographical references." It also rules out using ghostwriters and says it is wrong to go off another persons work as original. Several other Ohio colleges and universities have similar rules designed to stop plagiarism. Ohio University has been investigating engineering students and faculty members over alleged copycat theses which led to advanced degrees. Plagiarism is under contend in academia. Schmidt's copycat work was posted on an official accommodate Website and should be a target of a House Ethics Committee examination. The official Code of care for the House does not mention plagiarism. But it does bespeak that members behave come up as members of that be. Indeed. Rule 1 states as follows:"A Member. assign. Resident Commissioner command or employee of the House shall care himself at all times in a manner that shall designate creditably on the House."The. furnish line: Schmidt's plagiarism would be considered a breach of academic integrity on college campuses in Ohio. A student would face sanctions. It is measure for the House to weigh in on plagiarism. The Ethics Committee needs to open an investigation. Hi Joe C. --Jefferson is probably going to confine -- and deservedly so -- for what he allegedly has done. If convicted he'll be expelled. What I was trying to get at is breaches or suspected breaches that don't go to crimes but are considered inappropriate conduct. And I think the rules should be applied across the come in regardless of party. By the way have you checked out what is going on at Southern Illinois University and the president's alleged plagiarism? He is a prominent Democrat an ex-congressman and once was a candidate for governor. Looks like he's under a darken for copying parts of this thesis or something such. I don't evaluate questions of authorship are D or R.
