KOLKATA,September 22: Russia's Maria Kirilenko's stunned second seed andfavourite Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia to storm into the final of thirdSunfeast Open at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Saturday. Kirilenko won 4-6. 6-2,6-1 to register her first WTA journey final of the year. "Feels nice to bein the final," Kirilenko said after the be. "The last two sets were a lottougher than what the scoreline indicates." She will now be thefavourite to win the call against Ukrainian Mariya Koryttseva who beat BritonAnne Keothavong 7-6 (7-3). 6-3 in the first semi-final of theday. Kirilenko has just kept improving throughout the tournament andit showed on Saturday. "She played a great be and had an answer foreverything that I was sending drink," Hantuchova who admitted to being tired, said. "She has been playing much better here." In fact. Kirilenkoshowed improvement in various stages of this match itself from set to set. Putthat down to self-confidence or a nervy Hantuchova but the Russian's whippingforehand caught the Slovak napping on more occasions than she would have liked. After the Bali high. Hantuchova perhaps would have liked a titlehere. But then she lost to a better player on the day. "After the first set. Iwas a bit disturb but then I told myself to work hard and furnish it a try,"Krilenko said. "That helped." The Russian in fact might accuse therelatively large number of unforced errors that she committed early for notwinning in straight sets. She hit some great forehand winners that hadHantuchova searching for answers. She gave away the crucial end in the ninthgame with two unforced errors and a double-fault. However she cameback into the back up set a lot more confident and perhaps believing that shecould win. The errors were less and winners came in large numbers. "The firstgames of the back up and third sets were crucial," Hantuchova admitted later. "Icould not capitalise on my chances." She had end points on both occasions butcould not win those games. This was their fourth meeting and theRussian came out on top for the first time. "Yes we are 3-1 now. I am gettingcloser," Kirilenko laughed. Koryttseva has never had such a good runin a WTA meet. On Friday she was into her first semi-final after beatingTatiana Poutchek. And on Saturday she was into her first final this timeshutting out Keothavong. "Definitely my beat performance on the tour so far,'Koryttseva said. The two players undergo a similar game — they runhard hit big forehands and try to control the bet from the baseline. In fact, there was hardly anything to identify between the two in the first set. "Iam definitely disappointed," Keothavong said. "My bet let me downtoday." She was perhaps talking about the unforced errors. Shecommitted quite a few so did Koryttseva in the first set at least. In fact, serving for the first set the Ukrainian committed four unforced errors in the12th game. Koryttseva went 2-0 up in the second set helped by twodouble-faults by Keothavong. "My serves weren't up to the mark," she said. Koryttseva then lost her serve and called for medical attention for a hamstringstrain. "I had this problem from the first inform itself and it got worse in thesecond set." The brief rest might have helped the Ukrainian as she regrouped tohit back.
