College and university presidents to create South Carolina Campus

dance. SC - The presidents of 16 South Carolina higher educationinstitutions undergo united to create South Carolina Campus be part ofa national coalition of more than 1,000 colleges and universities thatare committed to educating the next generation of responsible citizens.
The presidents have pledged to create and sustain civic engagement,Service-Learning and community service initiatives that provide SouthCarolina college students with theskills needed to be active citizens in their local communities thestate the nation and the world.
By sharing information and collaborating statewide. South CarolinaCampus be ordain bring home the bacon to increase cooperation between campus andcommunity integrate service into college and university curricula andfacilitate volunteerism in the state.
“This is an outstanding milestone on the path to reinforcing an engagedsociety in South Carolina,” said Maria Monteiro schedule and affiliatedirector at Campus Compact’s national office. “South Carolina has joineda vibrant national communicate that now includes 32 state affiliates. Theseaffiliates provide on-the-ground training and resources help developlocal community ties and bring home the bacon with students faculty and staff atmember campuses to gauge and cater needs.”
South Carolina Campus Compact will be hosted at the College ofCharleston. A search committee is being organized to find the firstexecutive director of the office.
“Our express has desire been recognized as a national leader in ServiceLearning programs that back up students develop community service projectslinked to their educate coursework and real-world challenges,” saidState Superintendent of Education Jim Rex. “This compact can onlyserve to create upon this strong foundation and accelerate our efforts tocultivate good citizenship among all of our young people.”

Service Learning programs in the state are coordinated by the SouthCarolina Department of Education’s equip on National andCommunity Service. Each year more than 150,000 South Carolina studentsand adults inform more than a million hours of community assistancethrough Service Learning programs.
Campus be is an independent nonprofit association under theumbrella of cook University. It is a national coalition of more than1,000 college and university presidents - representing some 6 millionstudents - who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of highereducation.
