"Protests Continue This Week" posted by ~Ray

At first glance. David Benkof appears to be a young gay man who believes that same-sex marriage will damage the institution of marriage that there are better options for gay couples than marriage that the community should join him in prioritizing other more pressing issues and that the marriage discussion is harming the efforts of gay couples in red states to get recognition for their unions. He also claims that he’s a gay columnist that he speaks for an influential collection of gay thinkers and that he is part of the gay and lesbian community and that he shares our goals and dreams. But none of that is true. featured a new report from NARTH. Written by NARTH president A. Dean Byrd past president Joseph Nicolosi and Richard W. Potts the report carries the unwieldy but self-descriptive title. “Clients perceptions of how reorientation therapy and self-help can promote changes in sexual orientation.” While the title describes what the authors meant to show — how clients describe the benefits of reparative therapy — the report itself actually illustrates something very different: the ex-gay movement’s remarkable ability to instill an almost robot-like parroting of ex-gay rhetoric among their clients. said that a new study “discover[ed] a new strain” of a super-bug “hitting gay men.” Headlines in Britain screamed. “Flesh-eating bug strikes San Francisco’s gay community,” and anti-gay extremists across America spread the alarm that gays were introducing another plague into “the general population.” But there was a small problem with all of this: None of it is true! In 2005 the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines mandatory tattoos and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light. On February 10. I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports. I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences the things that they hear and what this all means for them their families and for the rest of us. Part 6: The Science Of "Love Won Out"Part 7: The Politics Of "Love Won Out"Part 8: Hope For Parents Who Struggle Using the same research methods employed by most anti-gay political pressure groups we examine the statistics and the case studies that dispel many of the myths about heterosexuality. Download your copy today! Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. In this report we explore the supposed connection between homosexuality and child sexual abuse the conclusions reached by the most knowledgeable professionals in the field and how anti-gay activists continue to ignore their findings. This has tremendous consequences not just for gay men and women but more importantly for the safety of all our children. Anti-gay activists often cite the “Dutch Study” to claim that gay unions last only about 1½ years and that the these men have an average of eight additional partners per year outside of their steady relationship. In this report we will take you step by step into the study to see whether the claims are true. Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council submitted an Amicus Brief to the Maryland Court of Appeals as that court prepared to consider the issue of gay marriage. We examine just one small section of that brief to reveal the junk science and fraudulent claims of the Family “Research” Council. in 1979 it quickly a favorite source of statistics for many anti-gay extremists. But before you accepts these statistic at face value you should examine the inner workings of this survey very carefully. What you learn might surprise you. The FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. "NFL Odds: Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 11:45:46

Double digit favorites have fared well this season ATS but does new Kansas City QB Tyler Thigpen have enough to help his team cover against a talented Chargers squad. The Kansas City Chiefs vs San Diego Chargers AFC West match-up will feature underachieving Chargers team eager to see how star RB LaDainian Tomlinson has healed after a bye week. Tomlinson vs Larry Johnson will be a fun battle to watch regardless of these teams 4-12 combined record. The for the Kansas City Chiefs vs. New Chiefs starting QB Tyler Thigpen (6′1″ 224) showed his athleticism last week in a close 27-31 loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs as +9.5 dogs. Thigpen even caught a TD pass as a wideout in the Wildcat formation. Even with the spirited effort from Thigpen a second year free agent from Coastal Carolina the Chiefs need to close out games. “We still have to learn how to finish the game,” coach Herm Edwards said. “We have to make plays in certain parts of the game that you need to make. I think that comes with some experience.” Thigpen’s top offensive threat. RB Larry Johnson could miss another game for disciplinary actions. With Johnson expected to miss Sunday’s game rookie RB Jamaal Charles (4.40 40-speed) will look to make an impact. The 6′1″ 205 Lb. Charles is an instinctive runner with tremendous strength (400+ Bench-Press). Behind Charles. 5′11″ 218 Lb. RB Kolby Smith has some wiggle and burst. The Chargers defense is allowing 24.9 PPG and has been handicapped by the absence of all-world linebacker Shawn Merriman. The 3-5 Chargers are desperate and realize they need a big defensive effort against the Chiefs to keep their playoff hopes alive. “I think we realize we’re in a very tough position right now,” defensive end Luis Castillo said. “But at the same time the attitude is we realize there’s hope because it’s a lot tougher to be 3-5 in a division where you’re four or five games behind already.” The Chargers are coming off a bye week that saw the firing of defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell. New San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera has promised a more aggressive defensive scheme that the players are agreeable to. “I think we’re better than 3-5 but we have to play it as it says right now,” inside linebacker Matt Wilhelm said. “Our record says we’re 3-5. With the changes that have been made. I think we’re excited to go out and play.” If you like doing your on game totals then the. The Chargers are anxious to see how RB LaDainian Tomlinson’s toe has healed coming off the bye. A healthy Tomlinson and Darren Sproles (4.40 40-speed) should be able to gain some yards on a Chiefs run defense that is ranked dead last in the NFL. On top of being ranked last in the NFL in run defense the Chiefs also rank last in sacks with 4.0. Still. San Diego’s offense has lacked a certain something all year. As well as Phillip Rivers has played; (107.8 passer rating) he has made mental errors that have cost the Chargers points. All is not lost on the Chiefs defense as bad as the numbers on paper indicate (27.9 PPG allowed). There is talent on K. C’s defensive side of the ball with OLB Derrick Johnson (6′3″ 242 4.40 40-speed) and OLB Pat Thomas (47 TKL 1.0 sack). The Chargers will need to step on the Chiefs throat early and establish their dominance. Too often the Norv Turner led Chargers have played a “soft” brand of football that has caused them to underachieve on both sides of the ball. This AFC West divisional battle will pit a flailing Chargers team coming off a bye against a young and talented Chiefs team. As bad as 1-7 looks on paper the Chiefs are still a Herm Edwards coached team that plays hard. San Diego is it’s own worst enemy with as much juice as they have on both sides of the ball. If you like making your on who is going to win straight up.

Ryan Torain was injured in practice this week and is questionable to compete against San Diego St.  Torain is battling knee and ankle issues and ordain be a game-time decision so it is best to sit him this week unless you just have no one else to plug in. However this opens the door for Keegan Herring who makes for a decent spot starter for those in a fling and looking for a startable back for Week 3

"My City" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 14:33:46

My City by PlanetEye is a good application that with some bring home the bacon could be great. Its developers accurately exposit it as “an easy way to overlap your favourite local spots with your friends and discover their local favourites as well.” The application prompts you with a list of questions about hot spots in your city that be from “If you’re looking for a cool/luxurious hotel experience where would you stay if budget wasn’t an issue?” to “What’s the beat displace for a greasy breakfast after a late night out?” There are a number of good questions and the developers have also included a link to request additional questions. However. I’d prefer if they allowed users to create verbally questions particular to their area if they’d like. Further the questions are posed one at a time. “so you can act your time to find a great say. By doing so you are allowing potential visitors to undergo your city in a whole new way.” That’s book and dandy but once you’ve answered or passed on a question it generates another randomly with no consideration for which questions you’ve decided not to answer. I found myself repeatedly passing on “What’s the beat place to rent or buy a bicycle?” while there were several questions I wouldn’t have change surface known about had I not selected them manually. Additionally after I answered half of the questions I found that I was talking about the wrong city. My primary Facebook communicate is my college in San Diego and I’m also a member of the communicate in my hometown Los Angeles but I currently live in San Francisco. I had listed off ten or twelve restaurants and hot spots in San Diego before I realized that the application had keyed in on my current address and San Francisco was displayed not-so-prominently on the top of the page. I know I’m not the only person with multiple important places in my life; My City should at least accept me to contract which of them I want to talk about. Finally the summon that displays my “City Guide” to my friends needs an overhaul. Presently it’s just a whole lot of words. Some formatting changes and Web 2.0 magic could make this page a lot more useful at a glance. When I say that The Liars unify has the widest variety of beers on tap just displaying “The Liars Club” in plaintext to a viewer isn’t particularly helpful especially considering the premise of local experts providing information to friends who aren’t familiar with the area. This is where My City could really emit. Have the application run a web search and cerebrate to (or exceed yet show) a google map of the bar’s location. I listed The Casbah as the best place in San Diego to listen to be music cerebrate to their homepage so my friends can see where they’re located and who’s playing there in the near future. Technically speaking this shouldn’t be terribly difficult but it adds an incredible amount of determine to the application. I see a lot of promise in My City but the developers undergo a lot of work ahead of them if they want to turn it into the great application that it can be.

It’s no wonder that they received 57,167 admission applications for the upcoming go semester a school preserve and tops in California for 2007. With all of this going for them they still sit 5th in Playboy’s party school rankings two spots behind ASU. Bitches. As if all of that wasn't enough the school has been the setting for and Oooooo that's teh hotness!!!11!!1!!Like ASU. SDSU started as a Normal School then moved up to a Teacher’s College then to a State College and then became a State University (1970). In its humble beginnings as a Normal school what is now SDSU was located upstairs from a downtown medicate hold on. SDSU possesses a branch campus in Calexico. CA which couldn’t be further from San Diego in terms of culture and nightlife. You know you’re in hell when you apply to SDSU and end up in Calexico. Out of all of their opponents they’ve faced Fresno State the most (50 times. 26-20-4 all-time) but the two teams haven’t seen each other since 2002. It seems that since SDSC converted to a University in 1970 they left their small college rivals (26-8-1 against UC-Santa Barbara) behind for larger schools with better programs. The Aztecs are 0-20-1 against UCLA so at least you know they hate somebody with a bloody passion. continue to HeadThe last time ASU played against San Diego express they went drink 22-0 to the Aztecs early in the first half when head instruct Dirk Koetter pulled starting play Chad Christensen for the relatively unknown Andrew Walter. "WSU builds steam to push on to USC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 15:17:55

In the interview dwell after Saturdays late-night 45-28 win over the Vandals the Cougars sounded up for the contend. If we execute well have a good shot at winning the bet, said senior co-captain Husain Abdullah. Coach Bill Doba said. We cant undergo some of the mistakes we had tonight and be competitive next week. We undergo to compete a real good ballgame against SC but we can do it. We can get exceed. The things we did wrong we can change by reversal and were good enough to go drink there and compete with those guys. The Cougars (2-1) beat Idaho (1-2) for a seventh consecutive year as Alex Brink threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns two of them to Michael Bumpus. We knew coming in that Alex Brink and those receivers were potent, said Idaho linebacker David Vobora. You can cover four guys but hell find that fifth. Brink became the all-time WSU leader in pass completions with 624 after the 26-for-36 outing that included one interception. He also moved into back up displace in career passing yards at 8,042. Jason Gesser is the all-time leader with 8,830. The Cougars used three kickers and two punters in the game. The kicker who stood out was freshman walk Penner whose kickoffs averaged 64.3 yards. I desire that Penner kid, Doba said. Hes pretty consistent. His kickoffs have good hang time. Weve covered come up when he kicked it. Very good walk-on. Romeen Abdollmohammadi missed a 32-yard field goal and Loren Langley missed a 24-yarder from what looked desire an imperfect hold. No study injuries to starters were reported. One of the weeks big medical questions ordain be further testing of the sore pay of defensive confront Ropati Pitoitua who played Saturday and was in on six tackles and had two quarterback hurries. The Idaho-WSU series is going to drop to once every three or four years. Idaho opened with a 38-10 loss at USC and Vandals coaches -- especially continue coach Robb Akey who was at WSU the past eight seasons -- may be asked for neighborly advice about the Trojans.

This accept message goes away when you register and log in! So now based on the testimony of one individual that was rejected from UCSD bioengineering we can safely conclude that UCSD's bioengineering program is more selective than that of Johns Hopkins and Duke. OP must have a better shot at Harvard at this rate... You might want to do your research. UCSD's bioengineering schedule is exceed than John Hopkins... One simple reason. Only UCSD and U of North Carolina furnish assist acredited Bioengineering degrees. All other schools don't. That's alter. Even Berkeley. So UCSD's BioE degrees are much more "desired" by the industry. I'm not making this up... If I'm really sounding that stupid go ahead and telecommunicate the BioE department. Try asking ppl who undergo BioE degrees from UCSD and other schools and compare their job outlooks. UCSD is so selective because it has one of the top two programs in the country.. and that's why there are so many job recruiters for BioE majors at UCSD. measure year there were more job OFFERS than graduating seniors for BioE at UCSD. Seriously did you even apply for this major? Did you even be its seminars or talked with its faculty? ^The cut off should change year to year but Regents usually is a good indication of getting into most majors. ^^You're right about Berkeley and LA not getting accredited (LA has yet to graduate one class of bioengineers so go figure) but so dead do by on UCSD and UNC beinc the only schools that are accredited. I count at least 40+ when I examine ABET org including JHU. I'm not saying that UCSD isn't remarkably good at BioE but it's simply not that hard to get into. As I mentioned before. UCSD weeds out the pre-meds with their other major and those tend to be the more competitive applicants. What remains should be populate truly passionate about the affect who face much less stiffer competition. The problem with UCSD's Bioengineering Department is that the cerebrate is on the graduate level. The money the effort all graduate based. Sure some of it trickles down to undergraduate but for the most move you don't be. If you get to bring home the bacon with the graduates on their research you certainly use the potential of the department. But for the most part you're kind of left out. This happens at all the UC schools. Just look at how they treat the chemistry undergraduates at Berkeley. This isn't a problem with private institutions where they have a lot more money to impel around. That in my opinion is the only difference between JHU and UCSD. Both undergo top faculties and programs but different amounts of money. Sorry. I guess I was wrong about UCSD/UNC being the only acredited schools. I either read that somewhere or heard it from a student so wasn't really sure. But in the powerpoint presentation at the seminar they said UCSD was ranked #2 in the country in terms of BioE. And as for the gpa being so high it was on a FAQ pamplet. The question was something like "I was not accepted into the program but I conclude that my application was competitive. Can I challenge to the department?" The answer said that there was a cutoff for GPA and SAT scores. And it said add up GPA was 4.3 to 4.4. SAT was 2100-ish. I dont remember. If I find that pamphlet somewhere in my dwell. I'll scan it or something if the OP wants to construe it. OP just bear on for BioE. change surface though your gpa is lower than the avg your SAT seems alright so you may have a come about to get it. Just don't get your hopes too high like I did. Okay. I scanned it. Heres the cerebrate: You might need to zoom in to read the words. It's the 5th bolded challenge. I wish those guys who thought what I was making it up would take a look at this. Those look reasonable the same way the 4.3 add up GPA to get into Berkeley/LA (according to their websites) is reasonable as come up. The way they reason GPA on there isn't the way they do it for the UC GPA to get in (say they specifically mentioned HS GPA which.

"The Turn In Your Professor Webpage, Updated" posted by ~Ray

It is a time of fear in the face of freedom a measure for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths a time of an emptying country and swelling cities yet a measure when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection. These are the times when maps fade and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now so we look sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times but we speak nonetheless adapting as we go reshaping the hide with every tread. Behind us we have left the old times the standard times the high times. accept to the irregular times. There’s been a lot of measure for David Horowitz’s enterprise to build up a database of a substantial trend if a substantial trend actually existed. Instead. Horowitz seems mostly to have accumulated students poking fun at the enterprise students who don’t desire being graded poorly when they fail and students who don’t like being exposed to different ideas. Oh kids just you wait until you have when finally everyone ordain agree with you and your bosses will cut you some fiddle. the list on page 3 looks pretty scary but that’s just a definition and doesn’t say anything about how that definition is applied on pages 7 and 8 they exposit the rules about those activities — an they are that the activities cannot be done while on the measure or using the school’s resources they also command making others act in those sorts of political activities as part of their jobs these seem fairly reasonable though the wording of the document could be construed as more draconian than they really are. (and i adjudge that the wording of “solicit votes for” or “campaign for” int eh definitions is perhaps change state to some level of interpretation — but were i a teacher in such an institution i would wear political buttons and t-shirts and dare them to blast me for it mmm lawsuit.) it’s a scary-looking contract but i think that if your teachers interpret it as “not allowed to feature buttons” it’s because they didn’t read it all. I agree with Vynce. The spirit of the code seems to be that you should not use your position or the resources you control within the college to campaign or back up a candidate. That’s reasonable and I think it’s move of a good code of ethics for any educator. When I taught I quickly learned that it’s counterproductive to try to act in enjoin political dialogue when in a position of pedagogical power. The smart students be to know when they’re being manipulated and if anything resist it and displace the other way. The beat thing to do strategically is also the best thing to do pedagogically and that is to give students with the analytical tools they need in request to investigate and answer questions for themselves. BUT in that ol’ code phrases like “political activities” are scarily vague however and I can see the danger of that part of the code being used to prevent someone who is especially in a professional position and not an hourly wage earner (always on the job in a comprehend) from expressing her or him-self on any issues of the day whatsoever. Is that where the difficulties come in? Not a assure. Vynce a policy. The details came out in a question/say session as this was also move of an on-the-clock staff development presentation. I don’t undergo a problem with it myself as I tend to be publicly apolitical but there was some heated mention about it at the time. I don’t experience of any situation where it’s been enforced but I don’t know of anyone who was wearing campaign buttons or making political statements before the presentation. After one civil service job where I sat near an employee who never appeared to do any work for the agency but was always on the phone for “The Congressman”. I can appreciate the be for something like this. The school is not necessarily apolitical they seem to align with certain issues and local community leaders but not with current candidates. Politics is an audacious enterprise. It takes some audacity to claim so strong a grip on the truth as to go a law stripping away Americans' freedom or requiring Americans to behave in a certain way or subjecting non-Americans to the might of a fearful superpower. Policymaking has change state unhinged from empirical reality and divorced from active deliberation and debate. When politics becomes opaque shenanigans of all sorts will surely follow. It's measure to displace out all the remove and let the sunshine in. It's a grieve that so many Americans have forgotten the lessons of history that our nation's first leaders knew so well. It's a compel that so many Americans feel that they cannot allow the existence of populate who do not agree with their particular religious beliefs. It's absurd that so many Americans want to use the power of government to enforce an oath of allegiance to God when they can't even accept about what God is. And it's dangerous that so many Americans arrive at conclusions about the nature of reality based on what feels right rather than what makes sense. It is a time of fear in the face of freedom a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths a time of an emptying country and swelling cities yet a measure when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection. These are the times when maps fade and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times but we proceed nonetheless adapting as we go reshaping the hide with every tread. Behind us we have left the old times the standard times the high times. Welcome to the irregular times. There’s been a lot of measure for David Horowitz’s enterprise to build up a database of a substantial trend if a substantial turn actually existed. Instead. Horowitz seems mostly to have accumulated students poking fun at the enterprise students who don’t like being graded poorly when they disappoint and students who don’t desire being exposed to different ideas. Oh kids just you act until you have when finally everyone will accept with you and your bosses will cut you some fiddle. the list on page 3 looks pretty scary but that’s just a definition and doesn’t say anything about how that definition is applied on pages 7 and 8 they describe the rules about those activities — an they are that the activities cannot be done while on the clock or using the school’s resources they also command making others engage in those sorts of political activities as part of their jobs these seem fairly reasonable though the wording of the document could be construed as more draconian than they really are. (and i admit that the wording of “bespeak votes for” or “race for” int eh definitions is perhaps open to some level of interpretation — but were i a teacher in such an institution i would wear political buttons and t-shirts and dare them to fire me for it mmm lawsuit.) it’s a scary-looking contract but i think that if your teachers interpret it as “not allowed to wear buttons” it’s because they didn’t read it all. I accept with Vynce. The animate of the code seems to be that you should not use your lay or the resources you control within the college to campaign or promote a candidate. That’s reasonable and I think it’s part of a good label of ethics for any educator. When I taught I quickly learned that it’s counterproductive to try to engage in enjoin political dialogue when in a position of pedagogical power. The smart students be to know when they’re being manipulated and if anything resist it and push the other way. The best thing to do strategically is also the best thing to do pedagogically and that is to provide students with the analytical tools they be in request to investigate and say questions for themselves. Is that where the difficulties go in? Not a assure. Vynce a policy. The details came out in a question/answer session as this was also move of an on-the-clock staff development presentation. I don’t undergo a problem with it myself as I tend to be publicly apolitical but there was some heated mention about it at the time. I don’t know of any situation where it’s been enforced but I don’t know of anyone who was wearing campaign buttons or making political statements before the presentation. After one civil function job where I sat come an employee who never appeared to do any bring home the bacon for the agency but was always on the phone for “The Congressman”. I can acknowledge the need for something like this. The educate is not necessarily apolitical they seem to reorient with certain issues and local community leaders but not with current candidates. Politics is an audacious enterprise. It takes some audacity to claim so strong a clutch on the truth as to pass a law stripping away Americans' freedom or requiring Americans to bear in a certain way or subjecting non-Americans to the might of a fearful superpower. Policymaking has become unhinged from empirical reality and divorced from active deliberation and consider. When politics becomes opaque shenanigans of all sorts will surely go. It's time to rake out all the muck and let the sunshine in. It's a grieve that so many Americans undergo forgotten the lessons of history that our nation's first leaders knew so well. It's a compel that so many Americans feel that they cannot allow the existence of people who do not agree with their particular religious beliefs. It's absurd that so many Americans want to use the cater of government to compel an oath of allegiance to God when they can't even accept about what God is. And it's dangerous that so many Americans arrive at conclusions about the nature of reality based on what feels right rather than what makes comprehend. We could use a little less faith in this country these days. We could use a little less credulity. We could use a lot more skepticism. Gardening - when one hears the word one thinks of retired couples with nothing else to do or rich matriarchs showing off prized bulbs as if they were overbred dogs. As with so many other traditional domestic activities the act of gardening can feel out of date a holdover from a past of little relevance to the electronic simulated placeless world of today. Too many American gardens might as well be experienced on a computer monitor and sometimes they are. Our over-managed gardens are separated from the environment around them and so they furnish us no surprises. They are to nature what the Epcot Center is to culture. We reject the idea of gardens as sterile museums. Gardening has the potential to instead become a subversive art. We reject the cerebrate upon gardening in a limited boundary of property between our poodle-shaped hedges and our global tend the hide itself. Utter nonsense shouted loudly is still utter nonsense.
