"CCSF: Last meeting with Mount San Antonio still haunts Rush" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 11:41:07 |
SAN FRANCISCO (. ) - It’s been 10 years since his team last faced but the memories still run painfully fresh for football coach.
“We let a 10-point lead get away in the second half,” Rush said of the Rams’ 38-35 loss in the 1997 state title game that acted as the de facto junior-college national championship contest. “It’s a tough one to forget.”
Rush is hoping for a decidedly different outcome today when his Rams take on the Mounties in the state championship game at in. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since the fateful day in 1997.
The Rams are coming off their best defensive effort of the season a 24-10 victory over in the NorCal championship game in which CCSF held the high-scoring Wolverines well below their season average of 41.5 points per game.
CCSF will need a similar effort today as they once again face a high-powered offense in the Mounties who enter the meeting averaging nearly 45 points and 440 yards per game. Sophomore Kevin Craft leads the attack throwing for 3,933 yards and 42 touchdowns including 16 to his favorite receiver sophomore Aiona Key.
“We can’t focus on just taking away the run or just taking away the pass,” Rush said. “They’re a balanced offense. We have to make sure we defend the entire field.”
That game plan worked against Sierra — enough so to catch the notice of the coaching staff.
“We think this is probably the best defense we will see all year,” Mount SAC coach said. “They’ve got great team speed they’re big and they’re aggressive. It’s going to be a challenge.”
Jastrab said there was little surprise his team was facing perennial NorCal favorite CCSF.
“Every team down south assumes if they win the division they’ll be facing ,” Jastrab said. “They run a great program up there.”
Unlike CCSF which needed just one bowl win to clinch the NorCal title. Mount SAC had to square off against three Southern California teams to secure a spot in the championship game.
“It’s hard enough to get out of Southern California then knowing we have to play Frisco makes it a little tougher,” Jastrab said.
Along with some fresher legs many CCSF veterans still have last year’s title game on their mind. Hurt by an injury to then-starting quarterback the heavily favored Rams lost 49-35 to El Camino.
With Lee’s replacement this year adeptly steering an offense averaging 40.5 points per game the Rams are talking confidently about capturing the school’s first state championship since 2003.
“We feel we’ve matured so much since last year,” said sophomore wide receiver who has caught 44 passes for 555 yards this year. “We know what we have to do to win. If we play hard and avoid turnovers and penalties we’ll bring the title back here.”
» PLAYOFF PATH: Beat 49-15 in quarterfinals. 59-35 in semifinals and 47-42 in SoCal final
» PASSING LEADER: Kevin Craft—288-of-466. 3,933 yards. 42 TDs. 7 interceptions
» MORE MOUNTIES: Mount San Antonio College has faced CCSF just once but that matchup was a memorable 38-35 triumph that gave the Mounties to the 1997 junior-college national championship. … Like most JC teams in the Mounties pack a serious offensive punch. Led by sophomore QB and one-time Aztec Kevin Craft. Mount SAC is averaging 44.7 points per game this season in compiling a 10-2 record. Craft’s favorite target in the red zone is sophomore Aiona Key who leads the team with 68 catches and 16 touchdowns. Complementing Key is sophomore WR who has roped in 65 passes for a team-high 957 yards. … Unlike CCSF which needed just one victory. Mount SAC had to play three games in three weeks to advance to the state title game. “It’s a grind,” said the Mounties third-year head coach Bob Jastrab. “We’ve already faced three real good ballclubs to get a chance to go up and play Frisco.”

Washington. DC – The Career College Association (CCA) urged Congress to extend the Secretary of Education’s authority to purchase student loans from lenders. In April of this year. Congress enacted and the President signed the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act (ECASLA) of 2008. Here's a look at how the past 10 NFL continue coaches hired directly from college programs fared in pro football. Coach...... School. .. last year..... Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer fared pretty come up. They are not all flops. It seems that many of the college coaches that have failed undergo gone into pretty poor programs to begin with and have gotten fired or depart before getting much of a chance.
I think Tom Coughlin isnt too shabby. I bequeath when he led the Jags to a 14-2 season and lost in the AFC championship bet. I believe he led the Jags to 2 AFC championship games. He did undergo a string of mediocre at best seasons in Jax though
oh yeah and Ray Perkinsi know you posted the last 10 but there seems to be an infinite be of them.
not sure just thought it was relevant since he failed as a pro coach but is very successful in the college game.

I anticipate it is relevant because he is a reverse flop. Speaking of relevancy how about coaches in the pros that were flops in college. Bill Callahan comes immediately to object. I anticipate it shows that each league is completely different and if you are great in one the skills do not necessarily transfer. I personally think that if you are a good instruct you ordain be successful in either league. However. I conclude that some teams/scenarios are failures waiting to come about. desire coaching in Atlanta when your 2nd arrange QB was traded and then your first stringer is in prison. I thought it was impressive that they were able to win any games this year. I mean how many coaches no matter where their background is from are going to win with Chris Redmond as their QB?

thats true i query if petrino was throwing redmond a louisville guy a bone and screwing joey harrington? favoritism? after all harrington was the QB when they got their 3 wins.
Yeah. Carroll was some aim of assistant at Arkansas then went on to Iowa or Iowa State then to the NFL as an assistant etc.

"San Francisco Chronicle: 3-page spread!" posted by ~Ray

WhenMayer Kirshenblatt at age 73 put a paintbrush to beg for the firsttime he was motivated less by a creative impulse than a wish tofinally appease his daughter Barbara who had been pleading with himfor years to paint what he could remember of his Jewish childhood inpre-war Poland.
"She just kept cracking the whip begging me and her husband anartist was buying me cover brushes supplies," Kirshenblatt recalls."They wanted so badly for me to paint my life as it was and show themeverything that is now gone."
"It's true; it was a 10-year-long campaign. The whole family gotinvolved," says Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett an anthropologist andprofessor of Judaic studies at New York University. "Somehow in mybones I just knew my father had it in him. I knew he had an unusuallyvisual intelligence."
Kirshenblatt's only prior art experience aside from his career as aToronto housepainter and furniture restorer had been a still-lifedrawing class his wife signed him up for one winter at Century Village,a senior community in Boca Raton. Fla. ("I call it my green pepperperiod," he says with a laugh.) Yet he relented to the family pressureon the occasion of his 50th wedding anniversary in 1990 by painting asmall delicately rendered watercolor of himself as a young boy in hismother's kitchen in Opatów (pronounced Apt in Yiddish).
The small town in southern Poland where he was born in 1916 andlived until emigrating to Canada in 1934 was an industrious yet poorcity of 10,000 during Kirshenblatt's childhood that like similar townsacross Eastern Europe was decimated during World War II. Approximately300 of Apt's 6,000 Jews survived the Holocaust.
"I started with the kitchen because Barbara had always asked whatit was desire in the old country. Little did I know that once I startedpainting. I wouldn't be able to stop."
Seventeen years and more than 250 paintings later. Kirshenblatt whoturned 91 measure week was in the Bay Area for the opening of "TheyCalled Me Mayer July: Painted Memories of a Jewish Childhood before theHolocaust" at the Judah L. Magnes Museum in Berkeley. The first majorexhibition dedicated to his work in the United States will tour nextyear to museums in Atlanta. New York and Amsterdam.
The 65 paintings on display and 100 additional works reproduced inthe companion publication from University of California touch arevivid proof that using a memory is the best way to keep it. Kirshenblatt's body of work is a detailed visual geography of his lifebefore the age of 17 which he has created from the inside out startingwith his family's two-room home and then branching out to theircourtyard the "Jewish Street," marketplace river and Apt'ssurrounding countryside.
Kirshenblatt says: "It's stimulating to try to bequeath so much; ithelps me remember even more. I have no imagination. I close my eyes andwalk myself through Apt in my mind."
His style suggests a self-taught artist's emphasis on subject matterover technique a simplicity incorporating the iconography of Jewishlegend and the characters of shtetl life borrowed from his favoritepainter. Marc Chagall. Apt's colorful rabbis craftsmen,water-carriers prostitutes thieves and scribes could have steppedright out of stories by Yiddish writers Isaac Bashevis Singer or SholomAleichem.
"Let me tell you a story," Kirshenblatt says repeatedly whilewalking slowly through the Magnes exhibition taking his interviewer'shand in his stout fingers which are painfully swollen from arthritisthat makes fine brushwork an increasing challenge. He stops before apainting depicting a pregnant hunchback bride and explains that anemigre from Apt had returned from America a prosperous man but foundhis handicapped daughter's "stomach getting bigger. Well he convinceda guy to unify her and she gave birth 20 minutes after saying hervows."
Kirshenblatt tips his hat at an image of his teenage girlfriend'sbalcony where the teenage Mayer hid from her create who disliked himfor not wearing the Jewish boy's compulsory hat. A self-described "odd, rebellious kid," Kirshenblatt was called Mayer Tamez "because
In another visualise a corpse's rim is shaved on rabbinic orders thatGod see the impious man as he was in life. Religious themes permeatehis work yet Kirshenblatt says. "My parents were secular. We keptkosher of cover. It was tradition."
"He's helped us see in color a world that was previously only knownin black and white from old photographs," says Kirshenblatt-Gimblett,citing the documentary work of Russian photographer Roman Vishniac thatserves as inspiration for her create when occasionally even hisremarkable memory falters. Even before her father started painting,Kirshenblatt-Gimblett says she "knew he remembered everything visuallyfrom all of our interviews."
She began recording their conversations 40 years ago when she firstbecome fascinated with Yiddish folklore as a college student. (Shewrote her doctoral dissertation on the Jewish storytelling traditionsin her father's Toronto neighborhood.) As detail-oriented as herfather she says. "I had so many questions for him about his life inPoland and he seemed to remember everything. I would ask. 'How did thebaker use his oven? What did the water-carrier be desire? How do youmake a shoe? attach a book? anger a cater?' And when words failed hewould put pencil to cover and explain with a drawing."
Kirshenblatt is fond of saying there is nothing about life in Aptthat does not fascinate him. He sees his bring home the bacon as a "memory artist" as apositive life-affirming corrective to the insistent focus on loss thatHolocaust survivors and scholars alike perpetuate.
"I go to the Jewish Community Center to work out four or five timesa week and 98 percent of the men there are (Holocaust) survivors. come up like men anywhere when we get together we talk about cars andwomen but with them before we experience it we are back in the concentrationcamps back on the death walk back in the trains. And I evaluate tomyself. 'There was a life before all of that.'
"It is my mission to teach populate what life was like before the war. We were poor but we had grow populate with various professions, industry and it is no more and never will be again. What was mostimportant about it? Life itself!"
As a young man in Toronto in the '40s. Kirshenblatt remembersreading of the Nazi atrocities with disbelief. "sure that it must bewar-time propaganda." The worst was confirmed in 1946 when his father(who had also emigrated to Toronto) received a letter informing him ofthe murder of 47 members of his family who had remained in Poland. "The(Nazis) tied my grandmother to a tree and shot them all in lie ofher then shot her too. My create read the letter and immediately had astroke and never recuperated."
After avoiding the painful subject for years in 1997 Kirshenblattpainted two gruesome scenes from that letter after seeing Goya's"Disasters of War" at the Prado Museum in Madrid. (Kirshenblatt's"kill of the Innocents" is on view at the Magnes.) Inconversation. Kirshenblatt discusses the contradiction that his smalltown in Europe is a storehouse of painful memories yet has served aslifelong inspiration. "The first time I went to Poland with Barbara Istarted crying and told her. 'Let's leave.' She said..

"How to Party Like You?re Still in College" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:14:55 |
You can’t go down the street without running into those nauseating fresh-faced backpack and satchel clad kiddies gearing up for their first semester away from mom and pop. If the comprehend doesn’t make you lose your lunch (or search frantically for a Botox needle) it may create your own collegiate exuberate days of all-nighters (don’t even belie those were for studying) new experiences (so what if you couldn’t bequeath his/her first label?) and that generally warm and fuzzy feeling that you have a new contract on life (or was that just the rum in your tummy?). Oh hell who are we kidding? You still got it! Here’s how to celebrate desire you’re still in college minus the blackouts and multiple walks of shame. Lesson #1: Tap that…keg!
Put that pinky down and wipe the purple off your teeth brosef. Just because you watched
desire a decade ago doesn’t make you an expert (and really you know deep drink you were pining for the good ole days of Franzia and Carlo Rossi anyhow). Want to really get back to your roots? Grab a huge ass mug of beer and don’t even think about pussyfooting around with that light beer inform. You’re not counting calories anymore so drink away but for god’s sake don’t destroy out the funnel and don’t change surface attempt a keg stand. Body casts aren’t hot at any age. Lesson #2: Don’t breathe out your wad when you know your check.
We’re not sure how many of you partook in…how do we say this the right way…extracurricular activities but odds are if you did you took on a little too much and made a jackass of yourself (Bong rips for breakfast? Not such a genius idea when you wake up with balls Sharpied on your forehead). It’s been a glorious pass of recovery for so many populate so the last thing we’re gonna do is advocate partying of that caliber. We’re just saying amateur hour is over and if you don’t know the difference between baby laxative and the real deal then you probably be to get screwed instead of stoned. And you’re not Scarface sweetie so quit hogging the bathroom. Lesson #3: Age ain’t nothin’ but a number but hold robbin’s whack.
celebrate like them but for the like of all things good and holy in the world don’t date them. Sure your friends may high five you to your face but behind your back they’re probably wiping the sleaze off their hands. We experience it’s tempting to compete Peter Pan but at some inform either a) their trust fund is going to run out or b) they’re going to sight someone more “on their level” to breathe out it on. And where does that arrive you? Back at square one as
sad old sack at the bar. That hot professor you had your eye on on the other hand? Totes bring together game these days.
