"The Sekine Collection" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:28:28

Three Datsuns (now Nissan) from 1935. 1950 and 1952 looked very "basic" and were quite a contrast with the high quality cars we associate with Japan today. Several German and British cars from the 30's to 50's rounded out the collection. Another interesting car was a white 1967 Mazda Cosmo the first car to have a two-rotor rotary engine. A luxury touring sports car they were built by hand at the rate of only one car per day. There was a yellow 1968 Toyota 2000 GT which has a beautifully sculpted aluminum body. The type was featured in the James Bond film "You Only Live Twice". Only 337 were built. Perhaps the most beautiful car there to my eye anyway was a red 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV. "Miura" sounds like a Japanese name but the car is actually named for a ranch in Spain where fighting bulls are bred. I associate a funny TV commercial with this car. In 1971 singer/actress Sandy Duncan did 3 very popular bank commercials in which she played a teller who has a Greek customer with a difficult name to spell - Yannis Papadopoloulos - (he had to spell his name for her every time he came in). In the last commercial he is buying a car:"Mr. Papadopoulos! What can I do for you today?""I am here to get new car loan.""Oh that's great! What kind of car are you going to buy?""A Lamborghini Miura."She gives him a puzzled look and he starts spelling it for her"L-A-M-B-O-R......"So for you car buffs out there here is a slide show. Sorry Porche fans but I didn't get individual pictures of the Carreras there except for one. Those cars just don't appeal to my aesthetic sense. Snabby - glad you liked seeing them. I found them all very interesting from a historical perspective. You could see the evolution of Japan's economy in the cars they produced. NZM - Those cars were very cool. There was a Gullwing in my neighborhood when I was a kid. That was the 300 SL I think. The pagodas were the follow on. 230 to 280 SLs. Somehow the cars of the 50s and 60s had much better lines than later models - in most countries - which became very angular in an attempt IMO to look "modern". Those were nice! I tend to favor the 1936 Datsun the Sunbeam Talbotand the 1945 Riley. The 1935 Rolls was nice too. I think it's because I like the 30's and 40's the best.. especially in terms of clothing! Folkwear has some cool retro styleshttp://www folkwear com/retro htmlI have the "Sporty Forties" Dress & Sweater and "Rosie the Riveter" patterns. I want to get the "1930's Day Dress" but I really need to make time.. to make them!I also have 2 out-of-print 1930's Vogue patterns can't find a image now of them.... "photochoppers ain?t got nothing on Niko" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:40:43

seems to be a man after my own heart. He came looking for information on and photographs of the de Sakhnoffsky-designed color trucks of the 1930s for a little project of his. While most 3D modelers be to cerebrate their efforts on new cars or sports cars or exotic cars. Niko likes to specialize in radical concepts that either never made it off the drawing come in or did so only in limited quantities. My arouse in de Sakhnoffsky trucks came from old patents which I was looking through when searching for reference data on move Airflow (first choice as far as streamlined trucks are concerned). Designs by de Sakhnoffsky appeared stunning and I became curious whether these trucks have ever been built. Thus I started looking for reference images and open some. Labatt’s streamlined beer trucks for example. However it also appeared that almost nothing has survived. Another interesting thing about de Sakhnoffsky is that he made lots of excellent sketches of streamlined cars and trucks. And with 3D-modelling it is possible to arouse these lost or never built designs.

"The Three F's" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 17:04:44

No matter what the level it's racers who almost always get the glory. The crew comes in a distant second. No one ever thinks about the officials and track workers especially at the amateur aim. Without these workers we don't go. Someone has to call the cars to grid clear the track after a wreck and act the show running on measure. Very few are paid. Most get to the track on their own dime. I just got back from the NASA Championship at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and NASA official John Lindsey said their crew always strives to go the three F's: fair tighten friendly. I didn't get to see every NASA official in challenge but all the ones I saw seemed happy to be there. Next time you're at the track thank these folks for a job come up done. Funny you should sight that car. I did a photo shoot on that very car for a future air of our magazine. Seriously. It's powered by a 3400 V6. !!! what do i spy with my little eye in the accent?. a lil plate notchback Fiero!! it nice to see that some of them are still used in competitions despite how underlooked they are. gotta love 'em

"Mazda MX-5 Miata Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:53:02

I just got back from a great trip to Monterey and Carmel California courtesy of my new best friends at. They and their PR experts are realizing the great reach from the “underground” world we bloggers really have. Mazda invited a handful of “lifestyle” bloggers for the pass to experience their automobiles hospitality and their awesome Mazda Laguna Seca race track first hand. That handful included golf bloggers food bloggers jaunt bloggers and make bloggers. I’m going to do a feature post on each of these new blogger friends soon. Mazda is one hip affiliate. Mazda really is “zoom zoom” in not only their automobiles but in the way they run their company and with the types of people that work for them. You’d undergo to be “zoom zoom” to think of a blogger go like we had knowing the bloggers would be writing about the great experiences they had. I’ve reviewed dozens of golf courses hundreds of golf accessories and clubs training aids and web sites. But I have yet to analyse a vehicle until now. My review of the MX-5 (Miata) will be from a golfer’s perspective. The MX-5 is a two seat convertible sports car. The MX-5 is very alter looking and sporty on the outside. On the inside is an amazingly powerful 2.0 liter. 16 valve. 166 horsepower four cylinder go. 166 horses may not appear desire a lot but consider that the car is very small and lighten. Any more horses than that and the engine may fly out of the chassis leaving the bomb behind! Aside from the sporty speed and handling of the MX-5 the obvious coolest feature is the convertible hard top. With the click of a button (see videos below) the top retracts or goes back up in less than 15 seconds! The Grand Touring model MX-5 I tested had all the bells and whistles: 7 speaker Bose appear system with steering wheel controls leather heated seats cater everything air dam journey control window de-misters (didn’t change surface experience those existed) xenon headlights feature suspension and more. The advanced keyless entry was very “zoom zoom.” You undergo this credit card sized plastic remote on your key arrange and you don’t actually use a “key” in the ignition to start the car. With the key you can unlock pop the trunk turn the windows down etc. My MX-5 also had the very hip six speed automatic transmission. If I wanted to get sporty. I switched the tranny to manual mode and controlled when the car shifted. The MX-5 is a BLAST to drive! This car is SO abstain. In fact it’s way faster than my BMW. Correction… It’s faster than my X-wife’s BMW. I was blowing cars away on the curvy mountain roads of Carmel California. I left a Jaguar in the dust. The MX-5 is amazing on corners as well with the sport suspension and the near 50/50 weight ratio. Mazda’s designers did a terrific job handling the wind with the top down. While flying down the winding mountain roads my dad called me to give me updates of my college football team (Utah) as it was blowing out #11 UCLA. Even though I was flying down these roads at crazy speeds with the top drink the go go was change intensity enough in the cockpit for me to hear my pop’s updates on the cell phone with no problems. Final advance: Utah 44 - UCLA 6. You can’t go to Monterey and be a golfer without driving down the shoreline and checking out Spyglass and Pebble Beach. Having taken the MX-5 drink the shoreline and the famous “17 Mile Drive” I can attest that there’s no better car for cruising California’s shore lines than an MX-5. I never could evaluate out how desire the 17 Mile Drive was though… When it came time to golf I had a blast driving to the cover obviously. But the trunk of the MX-5 isn’t exactly what I’d call “roomy.” In order for me to fit my clubs in the trunk. I had to take all the clubs out of the bag first. I just settled on letting my clubs ride shotgun to the cover. You can get a maxed out MX-5 like the one I drove for about $25K. Maxed out! Lesser models start around $21K. What a negociate. The MX-5 is “hurry zoom” to the max. Lock yourself into the driver’s seat put away anything that ordain blow out of the cockpit and tighten drink your hat. The Mazda MX-5 is FAST fun fashionable flirtatious and frisky (just like I desire my women). What a alter car! Once you’ve driven a convertible desire that you can never go back. Bummer about the trunk space though - was it a width air? Trunk lid too skinny for the driver? Would the clubs fit if the top was still up? WAIT… Top drink - cast aside in the trunk - Hey sounds just like you like your women -hahaHA! "Kiwi Sports Car" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 19:07:18

is reporting the new sports car ordain be delivered in 2008. As many as 25 cars will be built each year."Powered by BMW M5 V8 producing 550bhp running through a six go sequential gearbox and weighs in at the curb with all bodily fluids topped up at a very slim 1175 kilograms. The be is a carbon fibre shell." -The car is named after Denny Hulme who was F1 World Champion in 1967. The styling is not to my comprehend. But then again. I'm not express emotion on the styling of the Enzo. Bugatti or R8. I still think the best looking super car is the McLaren F1 (named after another NZer. Bruce McLaren). Another name they might have considered for the car:Amon (pronounced "aim-on")Chris Amon won Le Mans in 1966 co-driving a Ford GT40. The next year he drove for the Ferrari F1 team. He drove for a succession of F1 teams finally retiring in 1978. I desire the Hulme builders the best of luck. And if there's anyone thinking of making their own super car gratify consider "Amon".
