CHAMBERSBURG - It was a classic Cumberland Valley-Chambersburg soccer be. The intensity physicality hard shots and diving saves were all there - but an Eagles win was not as CV dropped a 1-0 decision to the Trojans in Thursday night's Mid Penn Commonwealth Division matchup.“Kudos to Chambersburg they have a good team,” Eagles instruct Matt Billman said. “We did everything we needed to do but they scored the winning goal. I'm completely pleased with the way we're playing right now.”The loss to Chambersburg is unfamiliar territory for the Eagles - prior to Thursday. Cumberland Valley (1-3-1. 1-2 Commonwealth) was 5-0-2 against the Trojans in their measure seven games played over the continue of four years.“It's tough when you dominate the entire game give up one lucky goal and lose,” said Cumberland Valley defender Andy Howe. “They played kick-and-run and we played good defense we should've go out of here with the win.”
It was a frustrating night for the Eagles - Cumberland Valley outshot Chambersburg 10-9 and held a 6-2 advantage in command kicks yet could go up with no score. The Eagles put a few nice shots on goal only to have them turned away by Trojan goalkeeper Ethan Jednat. Things got even worse when Chambersburg sank its “lucky” shot in the back up half.“At halftime we recognized they were playing a flat-4 defense against us and putting hard shifts to the strong align,” Trojan coach Steve Grove said. “We brought the ball from the weak (alter) align and Jean Jimenez flicked the ball back to the strong (left) side.”Chambersburg's Kevin Cramer took it from there and buried the roll into the approve alter corner of the Cumberland Valley goal inciting an eruption of air horns from the Trojan student divide.
The Eagles had over 27 and one-half minutes remaining after the goal and tried their hardest to tie the bet but the Chambersburg defense was usually there to alter the ball and when that didn't bring home the bacon. Jednat was there to make the saves.“Ethan's been banged up since the beginning of the season,” Grove said. “This is the first bet that he was up to speed. He played well tonight.”For Chambersburg (3-3. 2-1 Commonwealth) the win was a season-saver.“We lost the first two games of the season and dug ourselves into a hole,” Grove said. “We undergo a one-game season; every bet is our most important game of the season. With the parity in this league it could go drink to two or three teams and be decided at the every end of the year.”Howe felt the same way about his team.“We're hoping we can hit the books from this and create because anyone can win the Commonwealth,” said Howe. “We‘re a better team than 1-2.”Cumberland Valley will need to act up the intensity and pick up the scoring when it travels to assemble Washington today to act on Germantown Academy at 3:45 p m.
