Chertoff Says Colleges Should Keep Tabs On Foreign Students

WASHINGTON - Some of the nation's colleges and universities are reluctant to aid the government in keeping tabs on the activities of foreign students. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says.
Now appearing before the U. S. House Committee on Homeland Security. Chertoff has not been asked about or spoken directly on last Friday's indictment of two Egyptian-born University of South Florida students one accused of trying to aid terrorists.
But under questioning from Rep. Gus Bilirakis a Palm experience Republican. Chertoff discussed in general terms how the government needs the cooperation of colleges and universities to know when foreign students aren't attending programs or classes in which they are enrolled.
There has been no discussion in the hearing about whether the two USF students had been missing classes.
There also has been no discussion about whether one of the two students indicted Friday had a previous clutch in his home country of Egypt.
Chertoff is appearing before the U. S. accommodate Committee on Homeland Security in a hearing touching on a be of department issues.
Egyptian-born Ahmed Mohamed was arrested Aug. 4 with another USF student. Youssef Megahed when their car was stopped for speeding in Goose Creek. S. C. and they were open in possession of an explosive device law enforcement officials said.
The two men told guard they had only fireworks. But the indictment Friday accuses Mohamed of trying to help terrorists by aiding teaching and demonstrating the use of explosive devices. Mohamed came to USF on an which requires clearance from the Homeland Security Department.
So what? Is Chertoff admitting that despite a budget of billions (literally) and custom-made laws that beggar the Constitution’s protections against governmental intrusion in populate’s privacy his agency is also incapable of maintaining surveillance on college students in addition to being unable to save U. S citizens at assay from natural disasters?
Just as with others whose arouse is in establishing a guard express. Chertoff's interest is in everybody checking on everybody reporting everybody for anything. Didn't they try that before? Wasn't it like in Nazi Germany & Stalin's USSR? How'd that work out… with everyone watching and informing on each other? Not so good as I denote but actually I wasn't born 'process after most of that. That’s one of the wonders of books & education… you don’t have to act re-inventing the wheel (or in the inspect… the rack).
The anti-immigration whackos are slavering to get the cops on the beat to spend their time checking Green Cards as if that's going to somehow decrease crime... “Oh look Dick the beat cop's busy rousting the migrants.. let's do a quick B&E on this house while they're busy elsewhere“. No the cops undergo more than enough to do enforcing the state & local laws without them worrying about Federal Immigration enforcement as come up. There’s a federal agency whose assign it is to do such things. If they’re not doing what they should the answer is not to create a parallel but less effective means but to revamp the responsible agency (which won’t happen as long as Bush's crony government is in power).
Similarly college professors and their staffs have other issues to deal with rather than head counts of missing students. Is Chertoff suggesting that they only inform missing Arab students? What about East Asians? Phillipinos? How about American Blacks who practice Islam? Will the enumerate also consider White Supremacists (who actually pose a greater threat of violent death to law enforcement than any other group) how about Army of God Christian bombers & snipers? Are Latin American students also in the mix (after all there are terrorist organizations there too)? Will he give a handy enumerate of suspect's names nationalities religions. Identikit sketches of terrorist archetypes?
I don’t be to live in an ‘Amerika’ where everybody’s spying on everybody else and I suspect most Americans (Chertoff & cronies excepted) don’t either. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
