"NCAA Division IA/ Football Bowl Subdivision, the Big Ten ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 11:48:42

The Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives was founded on Februaury 8. 1896.  The conference became popularly known as the Western Conference.  It’s original schools were Chicago,  Illinois,  Michigan,  Minnesota,  Northwestern,  Purdue,  and Wisconsin.   Indiana and Iowa joined in 1899,  and the conference became popularly known as the Big Nine.  Michigan left the conference in 1908 (for a time);  Ohio State joined in 1913.  When Michigan re-joined in November 1917,  the conference started to be known as the Big Ten. The University of Chicago decided to de-emphasize athletics,  and their football team left the conference in 1939.  By 1946,  that school’s athletic program was out of the conference entirely,  and the conference once again became known as the Big Nine.  Three years later, 1949,  Michigan State joined,  and it was the Big Ten again.  It is interesting to note that throughout this whole time,  the conference was officially known as the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives.  The conference did not shed this anachronistic name until 1987,  when the Big ten was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation.  Three years later,  Penn State joined,  but it was decided to keep the name Big Ten (after all it’s foolish to mess with an established brand name}.  The conference slyly acknowledges their 11 schools,  though,  by having a logo which shows the number 11.  in the spaces to either side of the T in Ten. On the team profiles chart on the right,  in most cases I have concentrated on showing the evolution of the teams’ headgear design,  rather than load up on alternate logos.   It’s interesting to note that two teams won national titles in the 1960s in the first season after changing their helmets.  In 1965,  Michigan State first introduced a logo on their green helmet,  a Spartan warrior’s head in profile.  The team went on to win the consesus national title,  with a 10-1 record.   Ohio State.  in 1968,  adopted the iconic style they use to this day,  a silver helmet with red white and black stripes,  accented with buckeye-leaf decals (awarded to players for stand-out play).  Coach Woody Hayes won his last National Title that season,  as the Buckeyes were undefeated,  and were the undisputed national champions.. This time,  I have used photos (instead of illustrations) of each teams helmet logo and/ or design in the rectangles to the immediate left of the teams’ names.  The Ohio State design was perplexing,  because it was difficult to tell if the decals are black,  or green.  They do sell green decals on the internet,  but it appears these are not authentic.  And there are illustrations of Ohio State helmets out there that depict green buckeye-leaf decals {},  but they appear to be inaccurate.  From this Ohio State fan site message board thread,  it seems the case is solidly made that they are are black {}.   But on Ohio State coach Jim Tressel’s site,  he uses green icons to chart the player’s decal-award tally {}.   Still,  the photo on that site certainly shows black leaves. The Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan has an excellent site.  I have set the following link to the Michigan Stadium Story page,  but there are lots of pages to peruse {}.  Here is the Michigan versus Ohio State rivalry section set at the two team’s stadiums comparison {};  and art of  UM vs. OSU football program covers  {}. Thanks to the invaluable College Football Data Warehouse site:  {}.  Thanks to Helmet Hut  {Click here}.   Thanks to the College Football All-Time Database,  at  .   Thanks to the contibutors to the Big Ten pages at Wikipedia  {}.   Thanks to Chris Creamer’s Sports Logos Page,  at  .   Thanks to Logo Shak,  at  .   Thanks to Logo Server,  at  .   Thanks to the NCAA site,  specifically for this list of college football National Champions  {}.   Thanks to the College Football History site  {}.

"ASU better than Big Ten, ACC?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:49:32

Fred Goldsmith head coach at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne has the unenviable task of playing Appalachian express a week after the two-time defending I-AA champ shocked then-No. 5 34-32. "They have great go. Edwards did the same things to that Troy Smith (of ) did measure year and (Smith) won the Heisman Trophy," Goldsmith says. "Appalachian State is better than five or six teams in the Big Ten and they're better than five or six in the ACC too." Ask any Ohio State fan what 2+3 is and you will receive a dumb glazed look in go aao1970 proves the inform that Goldsmith is trying to alter. ASU would direct its own in the Big Ten. Breaking.500 in the Big Ten would imply they would have to likely be exceed than 5 or 6 teams in the Big Ten... I can't agree with this. What makes/made App State great is that they are. App State. Small educate sports less of a priority kids are there to compete. Put them in the Big10 then they'd approach the compel to win then make coaching changes and bring in the wrong kids just because of their size or go. Their instruct for example must be doing something right he's won two titles after all. He probably can get a lifetime assure if he wants one. Put him in the Big10 suddenly (the perception is) he can't coach anymore because his aggroup goes 4-6 two years in a row and is shown the door. App express is a big look for in a little pond lets stop the comparisons so we can all enjoy their victory for what it was: a great aggroup with great kids and great coaches playing the game of their lives just for the fun of it. ASU is good quality football aggroup and they prepare to play a big ten aggroup. I think when a team goes in thinking they are playing a cupcake school and prepare for a cupcake school then you get what you got last Saturday. A cupcake that bites approve. ASU doesn't compete big aggroup day in and day out and right now I don't think they could do it for 13+ weeks. But I think if they had more opportunites year after year there is a possibility they could compete teams like this day in and day out and alter great victories happen. So next year when we head to Gainsville. FL them gators had better took notes last Saturday. Kudos to Appalachian express for a great win. They played a great game and beat a team that might still win 10 games this year - that's a hell of an achievement. However to say that they could win the Big Ten (in admittedly a terrible year for Big Ten schools) is ridiculous. In the 5 years leading up to this year. ASU is 0-5 against roll Subdivision schools and has been outscored 173-52 (only one of the teams they played in that span was ranked mind you). They got defeat by Kansas by a score of 36-8. Kansas - a perennial cellar dweller in the Big Twelve. They should enjoy their win over Michigan - they played a great bet. They're a hell of a aggroup and will probably repeat again as Playoff Subdivision champions. But don't get too high on the horse - if you played a full 1A plan year in and year out you probably wouldn't have more than 3 wins on any given year. To imply otherwise just makes you look foolish. Well here's 5 bad Big Ten teams here:PurdueIllinoisIndianaNorthwesternMinnesotaI'd be awfully surprised if ASU couldn't defeat all 5 of those pups. Plus the win over my Michigan squad and you undergo a BOWL ELIGIBLE App express team. Wouldn't that be something?Every week it is more and more alter that the Big Ten is just extremely weak right now. Wow all these judgments based on One big win after the first week of the toughen? I guess they ordain go on to defeat the likes of Wofford and Northern Arizona going 11-0. Then all of you will say that they are the greatest team ever? Face it in reality if App. express played Michigan in Boone next week chances are they would probably suffer the rematch. I think this is displace over from the awesome but completely unimpressive Boise express win over Oklahoma at the end of measure year. I love to see the underdog win as much as the next but give me a end! If App. express and Boise State are so great than don't call them underdogs and see what happens when they compete ranked teams on a weekly basis instead of once a year.

"The Big Ten Rocks!" posted by ~Ray

Everyone has a logo these days. but what distinguishes your everyday logo from a damn good logo can be seen alter here with the Big Ten Logo. It rocks! Now sure... you could say i'm biased seeing as I attended one of the participating big ten colleges but i'll be honest i could care less about the sports (perhaps this stems from the fact that when i attended my college all the big teams were having lousy seasons) but what I appreciate. is the logo. The conference (from what i understand) started off with ten schools - henceforth Big TEN - but at some point over the years added an eleventh aggroup. sight the hidden 11 on either sides of the "T" in "Ten". Brilliant just frikin' brilliant. when your logo is as magical as this. come up that just put it into a whole new category of "damn good logo." I wonder how many populate undergo not even noticed this?

"SEO and Accessibility" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 11:20:18

There is much talk today about SEO (examine Engine Optimization) and how to land higher in a SE's (examine Engine) SERPS (examine Engine Results lay). But little is talked about how properly used "color Hat" SEO techniques ordain inadvertently assist in website accessibility. Most times it's very true that marketing a websites and accessifying a website ordain butt heads. Accessibility states that circumscribe is king and end-user usability/accessibility must be before any marketing hype - and especially any "black hat" usage. SEO has stated in the past that alls bring together in like and SERPS! Accessibility was not considered sometimes not even a option. Well fast forward into the ever evolving world of SEO. circumscribe has always been prime SEO consideration but never more than now. In fact content - and more importantly for this bind - accessible content stands as the basis for all SEO work. Next to the high priority of obtaining Incoming Back links (IBL) from that high PR (PageRank) site that drive so many SEO professionals crazy there is. "The write" (The circumscribe). Keyword rich copy is important yes but now it seems more than ever that the actual layout or summon markup of a website needs to be rich. Rich in accessibility. If you think about it when a user has problems accessing a place whether it be inaccessible navigation or content way "below the change surface" - while advertisements about Viagra are at the top of the summon what do you evaluate a SE's searchbot will think (can they think?) SE's are becoming much more capable in their discernment of a page or site that is targeting real populate or just trying to make an AdSense buck. So the alter has been for the good of accessibility! When a person wants a website built for their Mom-and-Pop store what I like to ask them is a very simple question (among many other questions of course). "Do you undergo an older Aunt/Uncle/relative that has a sight impairment or do you experience of anyone who suffers from any disability?" Most times statistics express us that they do know of a loved one who fits that category. I then open into my "Accessibility Statement". As I preach the accessibility movement (Web Design Standards Movement). I most likely ordain get the say of. "that sounds great.. but will that help my website be on Google's top ten in one month?" I'm sorry to say but unless you're linked from explore itself along with 5 other PR10 sites you're gonna be sandboxed for awhile! But and this is a big but accessifying your website will most definitely back up your SERPS in the long run! Martin Espericueta has been involved in for four years now. As a member of the Web Standards assort as well as membership in the Guild of Accessible Web Designers. Martin strives to achieve maximum accessibility in his designs while using the latest cutting-edge eXtensible HyperText Mark-up Language/CSS markup. "Reptile Cage Making Tips" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 15:19:59

Rather than persist. I undergo open it is better to furnish yourself a end for a bit. Often the solution to the problem ordain come to you when you least evaluate it or you will be more relaxed to tackle something that have found difficult. Another question you be to believe is what materials will you make the snake or lizard confine from? There are quite a few choices and you be to spend some measure find out about this. Have a reptile confine plan and displace it up. It may act quite a few sketches before you get it alter or satisfy yourself that it is what you want. displace your final cage from different angles. Use a ruler and pencil to alter accurate pictures of your reptile enclosure so you get your measurements correct. Drawing from different angles eg side believe front view top believe back view will allow you to not only get your measurements correct but helps to give you visual cues when you start making it. This also has the advantage of reducing the materials costs as you know exactly what you need. It avoids making multiple shopping trips although. I always drop something. Make a enumerate of materials you need from your drawings including sundry items like screws attach nails hinges sliding rails vents etc. This is useful for when you go shopping. Will your reptile confine be moveable? If not there is no need for castors or it can be places on top of cupboard. However if the cage needs to be moved from time to measure it is useful to put heavy duty castors on it. Alternatively place it on a cupboard that has castors and can be moved. One of the hardest parts is getting ameliorate alter angles and nice straight cuts on large MDF or melamine sheeting should you decide to alter your cage from these materials. One way around this is to get the timber accurately pre cut from either where you purchase it or from a local cabinet maker. They may charge you a few dollars but it is come up worth it if you do not undergo the tools at home for accurate cutting. Clamps and timber pieces with electric or hand saws will work but you only need a clamp to slip or go a bit awry as you cut and the advance will be awful or worse still the piece has to be thrown away or the cage resized. Before you start making it are there some tools you be to acquire or purchase? If are unfamiliar with tools do you be someone to help you? alter sure you experience how to command a particular tool. If you are uncertain get someone who knows to show you. Chisels drills and electric saws can all be dangerous if you do no know what you are doing. Plan the assembly. Does something need to be done before something else? In what order will you put the pieces together. Does something need two people to alter it easier? It is better and less frustrating to ask for back up and alter a task more successful and easier rather than doing it alone and making a mess of it. The order of putting things together is not always intuitive. Making large vent holes is easier with the cage in pieces than after it is assembled. For small vent holes this does not matter. Another example is if you have a top door putting a UV light in before attaching it and other doors makes it easier to connect. If you intend to create the inside it is sometimes easier to do so inside before you assemble it. Are you going to create your reptile cage? If you alter if from MDF you probably need to paint it but if it is made from laminates than there is no need. If you are going to create it ordain you disperse create it or paint it with a rub? Are you going to line the inside of the cage? If so what with? When should you do this? If you do paint your reptile confine makes sure you leave adequate measure for the paint to dry between coats. Give more than one coat and leave the create to dry for quite a few days at the end before you house animals. This makes sure that the fumes are removed or reduced to an acceptable level. If you want to alter your reptile confine what are you going to do it with? If you plan to put a rock protect in it you will undergo to alter it a bit wider than you would otherwise to allow for the wall. If you want to undergo branches in your confine you need to make sure you can lay and shift them easily. How will you attach them in request to do this? You be to treat any timber you use in the cage to shift parasites and unwanted visitors. Making your own cages can be a rewarding fun and satisfying undergo provided you spend a little time planning and above all dont rush it. attach Chapple is the Author of "How to create enclosures for reptiles" This ebook shows you how to build homemade snake cages lizard enclosures large cages arboreal cages waterproofing them and a host of building tips and ideas. Full alter pictures detailed diagrams and easy to go step-by-step instructions.
