After recording its first tie in two seasons the 4-0-1Wisconsin wrestling aggroup has to rebound for another tough be. Tonight thegrapplers open their Big Ten season as they continue to Columbus to take on theOhio State Buckeyes.
"I'm sure they'll be create from raw material," Davis said of his team. "Theybeat us in the (Las Vegas) tournament. They've got quite a few guys who placedahead of us at the Vegas tournament. But you experience that's why you compete."
Saturday night the Badgers were in Iowa visiting theNorthern Iowa Panthers and came home with a 16-16 tie. The Badgers won onlyfour matches during the night and they also saw junior Dallas Herbst sufferhis first loss of the toughen.
"It's kind of nicebecause it's almost desire a warm-up," senior Craig Henning said. "Getting in a realtough be before we get a break. It's kind of like a preview of what we havecoming up when we come back (from semester break). So it'll be a niceeye-opener for everyone to really show and really buckle down."
The Big Ten willonce again be a hotbed of the nation's best wrestling. Along with the Badgersand Buckeyes seven other Big Ten schools are ranked in the top 20. Tonight'smatchup not only features two top 15 teams but also 12 individually-ranked wrestlers.
One of the big matchups ordain be at 141 pounds when UW's 13th-rankedKyle Ruschell takes on No. 7 Jeff Jaggers. The two wrestlers met Dec. 1 at theCliff express emotion Invitational with Jaggers winning by pinning Ruschell in 3:20. Ruschell is coming off a big upset Saturday of 10th-ranked C. J. Ettelson ofUNI.
"With Ohio State,they're always tough," junior Kyle Massey said. "We didn't actually dual themlast year so it's going to be cool to be able to get the come about to see themthis year heads-up. A couple of our guys wrestled them (last) pass out inVegas so it's going to be good to try to get some matchup there that we wantto see. We're looking forward to some big matches out there."
The match is also the Big Ten opener for the Buckeyes andthey have selected former coach and former Badger coach Russ Hellickson as thehonorary coach of the be. Hellickson went 70-22-1 in four years for theBadgers before heading to Ohio express. Once there. Hellickson went on to coachthe Buckeyes for 20 years posting a record 272-170-6.
"We're going to go out strong," Davis said. "I don'tthink we're favored here but favored or not that's why you battle. You don'tgo by what's on paper."
